  • Is adjusting the valve lash a pain? Nice car btw.

  • Thanks, Its not too bad once you have done it several times. Most of the time you are just checking the valve lash to make sure its within spec. You don't need to adjust it unless its out of spec. Keeping track of which cylinders you have checked is probably the biggest pain. I usually mark the rocker arms I've checked with a sharpie, otherwise its pretty straight forward.

  • @chevyguy879 Thanks for the reply. I'm a rookie on this stuff. When I see people check lash the motor is out of the car an the intake is off so they can look at the lifters. How do you check it if the motor is in the car? Just stick a shim between the rocker arm? If needs adjusting, just simply tighting? Sry for asking questions just trying too learn this stuff. Thanks again! :)

  • how is the streetability with that cam?

  • Surprisingly drivable for how radical the cam is. I can putt it around all day at 2500 rpm if I feel like just cruising around. Although the car is happiest at 3000 rpm and above, or just spinning it straight to the limiter at 7000. Anything below 2500 and it starts getting annoyed, but overall its pretty good.

  • Sounds really good man, check mine out lemme know what you think.

  • Sounds nice and healthy and I like your original Texas plates. I wish I could have a set of year correct black Cali plates for mine.

  • @chevyguy879 How much power do you estimate you are making?

  • Based on engine combo, my friend and I who built the engine estimate its between 500-550 horses. Almost all of people that hear my car run think its packing a nasty big block and are very surprised to see its a small block.

  • @chevyguy879 To the wheels or at the crank?

  • Oh at the crank, motor doesn't make that much power.

  • I want this video on my V400p phone.

  • I want to see more vids of this car ! Im sure alot of us do.

  • This video is a favorite on Ghana

  • Thanks I'm honored, good to know people over there appreciate muscle cars as well.

  • where did you get bezels for the gauges?

  • Didn't get any bezels, that's the stock dash and I modified it to fit 5 inch Autometer gauges where the stock instruments used to be.

  • That sounds amazing!

  • Thank you, I appreciate it.

  • AWESOME CAR! I was just wondering what/where your front lower valance came from. Its really tough looking and Ide like to go that direction on MY 69. It might be somewhere in the comments somewhere but I didn't see it.Thanks!

  • I have answered the question before, but its from a '69 Camaro that I modified to fit. It takes a lot of trimming, fiddling, fabricating and changing things to make it fit. That air dam was never meant to go on a Chevelle, but you can do it if you are motivated to.

  • Nice car thinkin about gettin one of these or a '87 grand national

  • GN's are killer, you can't go wrong with either car. I would love to buy a GN someday.

  • I listen to this thing thump religiously.

  • Well thanks, one of these days I'll do an action video with the car.

  • @chevyguy879

Please do, I'm probably getting these mufflers for christmas, wanna see how it sounds under load and in car.

  • Two word answer there: REALLY LOUD, earplugs should be considered.

  • You are saying they are loud enough for ear plugs....have you ever compared them to the regular Pro Streets? What about if the exhaust came back further? Looking to use Pro Streets on my 66 Nova with a cammed/heads LS1. I love the sound of these, but I obviously cannot tell how loud they are through a computer. Thanks!!

  • Yes, they are loud enough to consider ear plugs. The car is probably well over 100 DB at idle and I can only imagine what it is at full throttle 7K RPM. I didn't look at the Pro Street series, but the Spin Tech rep said those would be a good choice if I wanted it a little quieter. My exhaust would be quieter if the mufflers just had turn downs, or if the exhaust came out the back of the car. The side exit really makes it loud, so choose your mufflers carefully.

  • BEAUTIFUL .

  • Thanks much, I appreciate it.

  • were you at good guys in plesenton ca ?

  • Yeah I do go to Pleasanton Good Guys, not every time because the show gets to be more and more of a rip off it seems. But if my friends are taking their cars to the show, I usually will too.

  • Sounds much better with the Spintech's than it did with the Flowmaster. Beautiful car man.

  • Thanks much, the Spin Techs unleashed a good amount of upper RPM power as well.

  • Nice car. Did u lower it as well?

  • Yes its lowered about 3-4 inches all around. Will be setting the car up for auto X this winter and its going to get a full coil over setup.

  • what series spin tech is that

  • They are the Super Pro Street series. Wouldn't recommend these unless you carry ear plugs in the car with you, it really is that loud.

  • show this bad boy out on the streets :D

  • Will be doing that soon.

  • nice chevelle man. great job on the paint black is a really hard color.

  • You have a beautiful ride! We're glad to see you enjoying the parts!

    All the best,

    COMP Cams

  • Thanks much, appreciate the good quality parts your company puts out.

  • awesome sound, lets people know you mean business

  • I'm not too big on chevelles but I dig this one. If it were mine though I would put some chrome sidepipes down her and come out right before the rear tires, that's just me though.

  • says 69 chevelle but rear quarter panel plainly say malibu. im lost

  • Let me clarify, Chevelle is the model of the car and Malibu was the trim line. The 3 trim levels would be: base Chevelle 300, then SS and lastly Malibu. Malibu was the top of the line trim spec back in the day. I believe you could also combine SS and Malibu as well.

  • @chevyguy879 Well you got that partly right. the base Chevelle was the 300 then the Malibu (upgraded interior, no posts, upgraded trim, and other options) the SS in 69 were Malibu's originally until someone ordered an SS (they didnt do this in 68 or 70). Before 1968 if you wanted an SS it was the Malibu SS because it came with the upgraded interior (malibu) and performance drive train (SS). Malibu replaced the name Chevelle in 78 which is where all the confusion comes in from non Chevelle ppl.

  • @chevyguy879

    SS= HI-PO Malibu IE 67 327/350, 350/350, 396/325/350/375 and then in '70 the big bad LS6 454.

  • I have to add my compliments very nice chevelle and it raps beautifully ,must be a blast to drive:)

  • Thank you, yes it is very enjoyable to drive and attract everyone's attention within a several mile radius.

  • If you ran the exhaust out the back, it wouldn't be as loud. Great sound either way.

  • Yes, I have always run the exhaust out the back and decided to change to out the side when I swapped on the Spin Techs. Its blatantly obvious there is a big difference, but thats fine. I can always go back to full tailpipes if it ever gets too obnoxious.

  • Thanks I just added a new spintech pro shootout today 3.5" :-) its amazing... half deaf so like loud

  • Good lord that's amazing

  • Well thanks, to be honest its really way too loud. Nice lope on your 5.3 by the way.

  • that sound is just music to my ears...unlike the little rice burners we have runnin around my town...and i just bought a set of these for my 68' chevy c10 hope to atleast come somewat near to the amazing sound this beast has

  • Should make some good noise and you should see a nice power increase across the rpm range too. I had to retune my carb after installing mine.

  • oooooooo weeeeeeeeee, thats what i said in my head when i saw that front bumper lip, so sexy

  • Thank you, its just a standard Camaro front lip that I modified to fit the car.

  • I'm in love lol, Sounds Great man!

  • Thanks appreciate it. Judging by your YT name you like Mitsu 4G63 motors. I daily drive an Evo IX and that 2.0 liter is a killer little motor. Probably the best engine they ever made.

  • @chevyguy879 I always wanted a Evo

  • gorgeous car, my dad and i got a 69 malibu chevelle w a 427, i got a vid of it on my page. but jus figured id comment your whip.

  • god damn man thats NASTY!

  • Yes it is and its extremely loud as well.

  • Very Nice!

  • Thank you, appreciate it!!

  • I want my 69 chevelle the same color as ur rally's

  • They are custom Weld Prostar XP's. They have been discontinued for many years now.

  • Very nice.

  • Thanks a lot!!

  • i can dig it!:]

  • Thank you, Chevelles certainly are fun. My friend would dig your '66, he wants to pick one up in a few years here.

  • I have a 73 chevelle. and i want to do my exhaust like yours but cant see how to do it because the frame so low to the ground. how different is the 69 from the 73 it that term?

  • The new body style Chevelles had a completely redesigned frame for '73. Its different in every way from the 68-72 frame. One thing they did was increase the suspension travel and that may be why your frame is closer to the ground. You might be out of luck going out the side of the car unless you notch the frame, which may compromise rigidity . Next option would probably be turn downs off the mufflers. Good luck.

  • 帥氣 !

  • verry clean chevelle i like it

  • Thank you, its a fun toy.

  • the kind of exhaust you have is exactly what i want to run on my 87 monte ss aero looks good and sounds good by the way gorgeous car

  • Thanks much, you won't be disappointed if you go with Spin Tech mufflers. Way better power than typical Flowmaster or Dynomax mufflers.

  • '69 Malibu is my favorite. Sounds good but it kinda sounded like a rotary engine when you first started it. No offense, it's a badass car.

  • A Rotary huh? Must be my aftermarket mini starter or the Spin Tech's. No offense taken, another friend of mine that won't use anything except Flowmaster thinks it sounds like a Harley.

  • have you got a toggle switch on to start your car it didnt look like you turned the key to start that beast

  • Yes it has a hidden ignition toggle switch. There is a sequence you have to go through to start it.

  • How much vacuum does your motor make at idle?

  • Hmmm not much, probably 5-6 inches at most.

  • Sick Chevelle, great sounding motor. I will be moving to a 3" header back stainless system with an X and spintechs soon after I go through the top end, and move to a CC286SR. Will post a vid when done, got some vids of the current setup. currently at 350rwhp @6,200rpm.

  • Thanks, Spin Techs are the way to go. Some people still think Flowmaster is the best ,but their technology is pretty outdated now. I got a huge increase in top end power when I switched from Flowmaster to Spin Tech.

  • ahhh thanks :/ haha

  • sick ass motor , can u give a rough est on how much it would be to build one? id have to buy a new block and stuff, mines only a 2 bolt :/

  • That's a hard amount to figure out. I probably spent close to $10K on this motor, with all the race prepping of the block, machine work and the high end components. My crankshaft alone was almost $1,100, so that should help give you an idea. I would recommend an aftermarket block as well. It has a better oiling system, the casting is more consistent and it can handle more abuse than even the best factory blocks. Its going to be expensive for sure, so spend your money wisely.

  • whats the exact exhuats setup?

  • Check out my motor specs list on this video. All the info on the exhaust is there and it should tell you everything you need to know.

  • Do you think this cam would work in a mildly built 307? i have a '71 Malibu and cant afford to go with a 350 right now.

  • Do not use this cam in a mild 307, its way too radical. Unless you have at least 10.5:1 compression, race ported heads, single plane intake, the ability to rev 7K plus rpm and deep rear gears. I'm sure you like it because it has that super ragged idle quality, but its a bad choice unless the rest of the motor is built for it. If you want that sound, check out Comp Cams Thumpr line. You could probably get one of these to work and they have that choppy idle too.

  • @chevyguy879 Thanks man. i have been lookin at those Thumpr cams and they look pretty wicked. plus my 307 will probably only see 5500 RPM's at the most. i just want somethin that will sounds good and still be streetable.

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lookin fine in '69

  • been a while since this vid...did u get new fuel system set up? Any vids of it screamin?!?!?

    Crush

  • Yeah fuel system is done, needs to be dyno tuned though. I'll try to get a few ripping vids up before a bunch of rain comes here.

  • Hey man, thanks for the quick response! That exhaust system sounds terrific! What type of headers are you using?

  • Not a problem, it does sound good but in reality its too loud. It will absolutely damage your hearing under the right circumstances. I run 1 3/4'' Hooker Super Comp headers with a full 3 inch exhaust. Quite a large system for a small block, but I rev the engine to between 7-7,500 rpm and it really likes to breathe at those speeds.

  • Nice!!! By chance is your engine a 383?

  • Nope its a 357. I wanted more of a high rpm screamer, than a mid range higher torque motor. Click on the description tab in the video if you want to see all my motor specs.

  • Bad ass ride bruh. Looks and sounds beautiful...

  • Thank you much!!

  • Nice ride chevyguy879!!! I must ask, what's the difference between the flow masters and Spin Tech mufflers?

    Thanks in advance

  • Thanks much, Spin Tech's baffling technology is much more advanced and up to date than Flowmasters. I felt a big improvement in top end power with the Spin Techs over the Flows. They actually feel better power wise all through the rpm range, but mostly at high revs. Check them out, just be careful with how loud you go. Mine are the most aggressive street mufflers and they are really loud.

  • Swwet car & sounds kickass!

  • Thanks much!

  • Nice, you painted your car the same way I did! Black with blue stripes. Look about the same size as well haha. Even got side pipes in the same place.

  • Interesting, must be a good look I suppose.

  • @chevyguy879 Must be, but most people either have no exhaust or full exhaust. Have not seen a whole lot of people with side pipes. And most peoples stripes stop before the hood ends.

  • black and blue stripes looks nice...

P.S. also, thank you for not choosing those stupid, overrated flowmasters..

  • Thanks it had Flowmasters on it for a long time, but I really like the Spin Techs better.

  • what are your wheels and what size? beautiful car man

  • Thank you, my wheels are now discontinued Weld Prostar XP's that have the centers powder coated black. I run 18X9's all around with a 275/40/18 tire at all corners as well.

  • Sexiest car known to man.

  • What series of spintechs do you have on there? Do you know the next ones down that would be a big quiter? I have almost identical engine except 200cc E-Tecs with same cam and 1.5 rollers .560 lift going into my 1965 Chevelle. LOVE you car.

  • Thanks, go with Spin Tech's "Pro Street" muffler line. They are the next quieter ones from the ones that I run. Still loud, but not as deafening as mine are.

  • that is one sharp f-n car!!!

  • Thank you much, its a blast to own.

  • WOW...I see that you have gotten this comment before but...

    That car is BADASS!!

LOVE the motor setup....when are we gonna see some reving and rollin vids?!?!?!

  • Thank you, the car is a lot of fun. The new fuel system for it is being put together and as soon as it is done and installed, I'll be happy to do some other vids of the car.

  • nice I have a 1970 buick skylark wity a 455 overbored anf stroked it does a 9 second 1/4 mile time and I been looking for some new headers and exaust system I think I will use yours thanks!!!!!

  • The Spin Tech mufflers unleashed a lot of upper RPM power in my motor. So I would think they would work great on a 9 sec track car. Hope they are to your liking.

  • @chevyguy879 they unleashed that power because they outflow Flowmasters, they use better chambered technology, Flowmaster is outdated and they need to upgrade if hey want to continue dominating the exhaust industry, people are starting to look towards other brands for better flow, sound and less drone, like me i run Magnaflow on my truck, and if i were to own a muscle car i love the way the Spintech Pro Streets sound along with Hooker Aerochambers, both flow better than Flowmaster

  • Interesting info and it doesn't surprise me one bit that Flowmaster is using outdated technology.

  • Nice car man, i have a 357 motor on the engine stand that im building for my 69 an i was wondering what cam you were running. Im looking for a fast rev cam just havent made my mind up yet on which one.

  • If you looked at my spec list, its a Comp Cams XR286R solid roller. The full specs are on Comp Cams website, just look up part # 12-772-8. The only change I made was using 1.6 roller rockers instead of 1.5's, to pump up the lift a little more. Once my upgraded fuel system is installed I will probably spin the motor about 7500 RPM. So if you are looking at a cam like mine, make sure your engine can reliably handle 7-8K RPM.

  • Well damn, after listening to this I am leaning back towards the 110 LSA camshaft I picked for my kit car engine. I asked comp if the 110 LSA would be compatible with Edelbrock`s Pro-Flo2 EFI and they said that they would recomend a custom grind with a 112 LSA which would give a better power band than the 110`s 2000 - 6000 rpm and provide more vacuum for the fuel injection.

  • Hi Nice '69 Chevelle,I am restoring a '69 Malibu myself. Can you tell me from what car is the front spoiler?I know Cougars and some Mopars had them.Tnx

  • Thanks, the front air dam is from a '69 Camaro that I modified so that it would fit my car. I am planning on making one out of aluminum soon as the stock plastic is too easy to break.

  • she is f-ing beautiful.....excuse my lengo

  • Thank you much!

  • have you ever taken it to a track? what kind of time do you think it runs.

  • Never been to the track. Once I complete and dial in my new fuel system, I would imagine it would crack a mid to high 11 in the 1/4. I'm not really into drag racing though. I like auto cross and road racing more and thats how the car is set up.

  • Awesome car and awesome sound! I'm looking to get something different than my flowmasters on my nova, what's the sound like inside your car? Can you carry on a conversation while driving? Any bad resonance? Thanks.

  • Thanks for the comment. These Spin Techs are very loud inside the car, but they are basically a race muffler. You can carry on a conversation inside somewhat, except when you are accelerating and then you can't hear anything. The only time they resonate is when you are accelerating hard, but cruising along not really. If you are not a fan of super loud, I would go with Pro Street series and not Super Pro Street which is whats on my car.

  • Hey, thanks for getting back to me, that's what I wanted to know!

  • That's one beautiful paint job on that Malibu. If it were mine I'd put 18" and 20" Boss or Coy wheels on it and tint out the windows. Keep the stance low and level.

    69 is fine!

  • Great car.

I am eyeballing that exact cam. How often do you have to lash/adjust the valves??

    Any problems with that?

What rpm does it idle at?

    Thanks,

  • Thanks, I usually check my lash at every oil change. When the motor was first broken in the lash was all over the place. Once I put some miles on it, the lash numbers stabilized. The last two times I've checked it, its been within perfect specs. Car idles about 950 RPM or so, the 110 LSA helps.

  • Thanks for the info. Great year. One of my favorites. I like the all metal top. So many with the vinyl tops.

Any problems with that cam cruising when you do not have your foot into it? Meaning lack of low end torque,,?They are mad to rev high. 3inch exhaust, that's large, not sure if I can get that on a Vette. Thanks....

  • thanks for the 411..I have an extra spoiler of my 67 firebird only its for a 69, they seem a bit wider, that will help since the car is bigger.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Thanks much, appreciate it.

  • I'm gonna use this cam with AFR 210cc heads and 11.1 CR. Victor Jr. and 750cfm carb. buts its gonna be in a 406ci.

Do u think it was idle the same or be smoother do to more cubes? I might have it grind at 108 lsa.

  • It will probably be a little smoother but not much. I wouldn't do a 108 LSA though. it will make the engine more peaky and harder to drive on the street. Cam should be good just the way it is.

  • Car is bad ass!! that exhaust sounds way better than the flows, where did you get the front spoiler?

  • Thanks, the spoiler is from a '67-'69 Camaro that I modified to fit on the Chevelle.

  • Nice! My chevelle has the exact same color scheme now haha. Cept my black has blue sparkles in it.

  • Looks great! Those stripes set it off perfectly. The rims look mint. I wouldn't change a thing.... maybe add chrome 1/2 moons to the headlights but that's all,

  • Thanks much, not a big fan of the chrome half headlight covers. I would love to get a set of black full headlight covers for road race usage though.

  • Awesome 69! I love all your little touches you have done to your car makes it "yours" if that makes any sense?

  • Thanks much and sure it makes sense. I like the fact nobody has a Chevelle quite like mine.

  • I love your car. Also, love the exhaust... doesn't sound like the typical flowmaster or glasspacks. wayyyy better

  • Thanks, Spin Techs definitely have their own unique sound.

  • SpinTechs + Big Cam = WIN!

  • Indeed :)

  • and the spintech system sounds better than flowmaster clip.

  • Thanks much man. I definitely gained some high end power after changing to the Spin Techs as well.

  • dude your car sounds awsome kudos.

  • hay man how do you feel about the super t-10?

  • Its a good transmission, just as good as any other high output GM trans made. But even so, it has its work cut out sitting behind my motor. I will probably rebuild it and sell it sometime this coming year. I'll replace it with a Tremec TKO-600 5-speed.

  • @chevyguy879 how much do those t-10s cost to rebuild I'm looking to get one for my camaro.

  • If you can locate one as they're very difficult to find these days, probably $3-500 for a good rebuild. You can also buy them brand new from Richmond Gear. I think Summit Racing and Jegs both sell them.

  • car sounds great, this coming from a ford man!

  • Haha, thank you, but don't let my user name fool you. It implies I am a Chevy man, but I also own a '92 Dodge Ram turbo diesel and an '06 Mitsubishi Evolution. I like all sorts of vehicles.

  • sounds sick....im puttin a 3 inch x pipe system on my 68 nova cant wait...

  • Good choice, you should pick up a good increase in high end power,
