The most beautiful instrumental EVER. There are others as grand, of course, but none any better. I first heard this as a young girl. I loved it when I heard it and I love it now even more. This song has been a source of pleasure to me my entire life and shall remain so. This I will carry to the end of my days. Beautiful, beautiful song; I cannot say that enough. Thank you for the exquisite post.
@0917gva I cannot put it any better than you did. I feel exactly the same way. if you want to try another beautiful lush recording, type in Beautiful Obsession by Percy Faith. Enjoy your music, GVA.
Always makes me think of Jennifer O'Neil in Summer of '42. What a babe. I used to play this every night on the juke box at the student union at the University of Missouri while I dined exquisitely on their 65 cent supper special and studied. Pissed off a bunch of people...fukem.
A new music book is being published called 'You Are A Tube!' compiled by Steven Fried PLC. This publication contains literally thousands of comments from YouTube.
This was the first tune to eerily play over the stereo of a '59 caddy eldorado convertible pulled from a barn after getting it starting and running after 50 years. The car is now undergoing a frame-off restoration.
Before starting a war, leaders from both sides should be required to be locked in a room and stare at each other while this song plays. Could make things cool off.
@ronetteloverz I wish you were right, but I'm afraid it wouldn't work, as such leaders are usually cruel criminals without any sense of anything beautiful. Stupid, primitive, arrogant, bigheaded and deaf for music. The only music they approve are loud military marches.
That awkward moment where you know exactly how a musical piece goes, you just can't think of its name. I think Mario Party 3 based one of its board themes off of this piece.
Sunshine, clear sky, calm wind, swaying grass, chirping birds, flowing river sound, flying dandelion fluff, herd of deer, pine tree, a luxurious house, a beautiful city, an airport, cheerful people, slow motions, etc
@Vziera --you are just right Vziera-- this is a very spesiel piece of music...it remind me of just exately the thing you mention, this quality make it aside everything I'ever heard of, --lovely is'n it?-- Thanks for yours komment.........
Andiven a procura desta melodia moito tempo porque non conhecia de quen era. Ata que a casualidade me conduciu a ela. E estou exultante!!
I would like to make y'all aware that a new music book called 'You Are A Tube!' edited by Steven Fried PLC contains literally thousands of YouTube comments.
Number One on the day I was born; but was piped into the department stores at the mall for years, so it often reminds me of endlessly toddling along with my mother past smells of strong perfume from the counter and escalators; and a when the traditional world of "harvest yellow, olive green and rust." still reigned before the revolution of psychedelics and chrome.
This is just a pleasant, sweet song that brings back memories from an earlier time for many of us....if your looking for more than that in it, you'll be disappointed
@nightwind928 ur so right. i think of being a child and playing in the fields around my home. sneaking off to the beach which was near my school when i was just 11 years old..such sweet memories
This song always gives me that mid-century modern architecture happy dreaminess. It evokes the dawn of the age of antibiotics, televisions, space exploration, and endless suburban expansion. It was a truly remarkable period of good-feeling and "innocence". And this song is a kind of anthem of that for me.
@silvermtn37 haha. There are countless numbers of experiential contexts in the world. You have one. I have one. Is it safe to say that the very computer you are sitting behind right now was probably designed more for a spoiled seat warming American than it was for the 52% of Chinese and Indian adult population who can't even read. But that doesn't discredit the phrase "digital age" does it?
@greatsea I like your observations with one exception - this was all framed against a background of the annihilation of man (humanity) with nuclear weapons to say nothing of cultural, equality and struggles for independence worldwide.
I do agree that it is the dreamier, imaginative side of the time that is evoked by the music.
@Mukman17 -- I rolled all that together in the quotes I put around innocence. I might just as well have written naive. I did satisfy your analysis, only perhaps in too muted a fashion.
@greatsea Then you realized that "innocence" didn't really exist and was forced ignorance via self-censorship. The media from the era does seem more innocent, but the reality of the era is nowhere near it.
I was only 4 or 5 years old, and it was indeed a summer...warm and safe with my family in the north of England. My parents always had the radio on. Such nostalgic memories...
One of the enduring glories of this marvelous tune is the way it brings back to me the many, many layers of a bygone era. Deeply personal and cherished memories of family life, yes of course. But also, wistful memories of what radio once meant to me when I was a kid, and an awareness that pop music then had something for everyone and could sometimes reach across generational and racial divides and pull us closer to each other. It all comes back, every time I listen to this music...a blessing.
Grew up listening to this on the radio--my parents used to love listening to the local NYC beautiful music/easy listening station. That station is now long gone--but certain stuff you hear as a kid you never forget. Heard it again years later on tv as part of the soundtrack for Rose Red =p Gave it a whole new meaning!! lol
@songplugger yes most definitely " WPAT easy 93" at first it was a "beautiful music" format station with lots of instrumentals like percy faith and also classic vocalists like Nat King Cole, then as time passed it changed to a more "modern" easy listening/ lite fm type format, and then finally it just died......
@bluestripetiger : Thats very sad to hear. I wonder if there are any radio stations (even Online stations) that have that classic PAT playlist. What was so nice about PAT is they really didn't have any 'easy listening' songs from the '70s. It was all slighly earlier in date. Thats what made itso soothing and comforting.
@maplebar67; now your talkin' I was 4 when this came out and my dad had a Wollensak and an Apex reel to reel and it was true "hi-fidelity" at the time.An exciting feeling of optimism in the nation with the advent of the Kennedy administration and this song signaled the beginning of the new and prosperous decade.
for months i tried to find the name of this piece of music, i even sung it to my mother, bad idea coz i didnt do it any justice lol! eventually while watching con air one evening it came on and i found out, havent stopped listening to it since, in fact i want this to be the music to my wedding.( if my girlfriend will marry me) because its such a romantic, lovely song love ya helen this is for you my darling xxx
A great song-- they don't make them like this anymore. Funny thing, though. Whenever I hear this now I think of "Con Air", with the guy falling from the sky and landing on the late Don Davis's car. Crazy the things you associate songs with.
@gertiblitz I imagine if one were just acquainted with some bad news.. and this song begins to play... one may begin to associate these negative feelings with the song as well.. and one may develop an aversion to this specific stimuli
such wonderful and very beautiful music by a very talented and gifted man. total class elgance talent all the way/ no if but,s are maybe,s about it. Today,s music except for celtic women group celine deion/ filthy sicking jungle noise rap and hick music sophie 1065
I was driving an open highway somewhere California recently and as the sky was deep cerulean blue and the sun warm and brilliantly shining, this song came on one of the local oldies stations. I was instantly transported back a summer day at the beach, circa 1961. I and Diane were laying out a beach towel, breeze blowing, we holding hands and snuggling, occasionally stealing a kiss and on the transistor next to us, "A Summer Place," enveloped us in its strains.
@jeff62rey Glad this brings forth such a sweet memory. This is one of the few lush instrumentals to really rock the charts back then. Only a few years ago I was able to pick up three stations in succession playing this format as I drove south from Sacramento & this format is only played by a handful of US stations anymore, yet we have one in Prescott AZ that come into phoenix where I live. You owe my channel of 800 playlists a visit if you love this song -lists for every year since 1900. chuck
CUANTO TIEMPO BUSCANDO ESTA CANCION!!!! YO LA BUSCABA COMO TEMA DE TRAECY Y NO MAS NO... HASTA Q LA ESCUCHE EN LA PELICULA RIESGO EN EL AIRE Y ME DEDIQUE A BUSCARLA!! AAA ESTA LA QUERIA PARA MI VALS DE 18 AÑOS ..
what a beautiful song to listen to and dance to. god i was just 11 years old in 1960 but it brings back many memories and how hard it was to tape songs back in the day with a large reel tape recorder with a radio in the kitchen, what job that was. ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

You owe my channel of 800 playlists a visit if you love this song -lists for every year since 1900. chuck

what a beautiful song to listen to and dance to. god i was just 11 years old in 1960 but it brings back many memories and how hard it was to tape songs back in the day with a large reel tape recorder with a radio in the kitchen, what job that was. ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
