Much of your footage is of vehicles that are used at Golf Courses or anywhere NOT on public roads. You cannot mix those in with the Zen and pretend they are the same.
that car is way rigid. but a 25 mph is not a test, at least for me. i mean who the hell crashes with a wall head on at 25 miles. i could even run. they can use the e-brake. standard now is 40. i rather do a higher speed like 55 mph test because most of the time cars go higher than that.
@elchicoboy Rigid? Look at the side on view wheer the whole side is starting to collapse. And that's only at 25mph. Put it in an Ncap test and it's just going to crumple.
watta cheap Fed-Cans way to discredit a Canadian ( but Quebeker concept ) Zero Ignition No Noise vehicule. Why don't they give a credit to this St-Jerome company to put air-bags, etc... NO.....WE CAN't...WE CANNUCKS ARE STUPID..... but the states are buyers, even BC.Yeah, they can....others cannucks can't. Have you seen the Chart morrons ! I give 5/5 for this car nd 1/5 for BC, and -6/5 for Canada.
@DomBass uhh safety is not discrediting something if it is extremely dangerous even at low speeds any accident and you are dead. or crippled for life.
Is there really a point to modern usage of full frontal crash tests? I though that offsets were supposed to be a better representation of a car's strength.
IMHO, full frontal crash tests are what automakers use when they know their car would miserably fail an offset.
Oh, woops 40 KPH, just caught that, which would translate to about 30 to 35 MPH, I'm presuming. Um, yea, I'd be very afraid to even turn into on-coming traffic down from where I live.
I'm worried the detachable (plastic?) hood will scratch my SUV or possibly leave a nick in the windshield as I pass through this 'car' otherwise unaware of the contact.
@jarail Nah - the paint and glass on your truck are probably much stronger than the materials this thing is made from. It'll just bounce off like a leaf.
Dear God, now I see why the Ontario Government does not want these hunks of crap on our roads. If hit by anything occupant will die or be seriously injured. At what to a normal car would be very low speed crash with little or no injury.
Actually I don't understand what's all the commotion. Nobody forces you to drive it, right? It won't harm you if you crash into it in any other car so what's your point?
This car's chassis is a garbage. Look at how the wheel hits the driver in his head. And it's only 40 km/h. What would happen at 60 (a common frontal crash)?
The ZENN is safer then it looks. I would buy one for sure. It is aluminum frame, same as a Smart fortwo. The only difference is no airbags. I feel the car is not getting fair treatment. It is perfect for city driving, I don't think you can do anymore then 35 km/h in downtown Toronto anyway :D
like peter696 says stop and think. what would happen to a person on a scooter if they slammed into a wall at 40km per hour? here's some actual facts: there are now 45 000 of these vehicles in the U.S. Over ten years 0 fatalities associated. in Europe and Asia these vehicles have been driven over 50 million km and 0 fatalities. those are actual facts. stop buying into the fear, we're smarter than this.
Did Transport Canada do crash test on motorcycles at 40Km/h? No one seems to want to airbags or side impact protection on motorcycles or bicycles which are legal on our roads... think people, think.
The hood of the vehicle becoming detatched is a red herring (given that in a crash headlights, bumpers and the like also become detatched and have no bearing on the impact whatsoever). I'm more worried about the lack of side impact protection on the Zenn (and airbags would cetainly help frontal impact protection)...
@gigababy Should not be that much... heck, airbags only go for about $400 bucks... stolen that is ;) but really if the guy down the street at the local autobody can hook-it-up than why not this camp with the help/subsidies from Govnt's and R&D from Int. Corps with their billions of dollars and infinite resources? yeah I knw the answer.... profits/controll for a select few :(

Airbags would be pointless in these cars because by the time there is enough force for one to be useful the whole structure has collapsed.

Zenn looks decent in a front collison...but lethal on side impact. (to be fair the Chevy Cavalier also has much the same issuess)
