i brought this particular woman and when i played this song she made sweet love to me and then she started to shoot at me i'm glad she couldn't shoot.but her mother met a man like that and her mother was treated like a low down woman she was. but other than that i love that song
The Toots & The Maytals version comes close. I agree that no one can top Redding on his own song - but if there's anyone with an equally-"soulful" voice, it's Toots "Reggae got Soul" Hibbert.
Totally agree. Finding this original was like finding Stevie Wonder's original of Higher Ground (covered by the chili peppers). Totally eye-opening. Hard to "cover" a classic.
a more accurate statement would be "black crowes version is shit" im gonna going to always have flash backs of that horrible version, everytime i listen to this :(
:) Goooood stuff.. Love Otis <3

I like the Dead's version a lot better with Pigpen but nothing tops Otis's voice.
Black Crowe's can suck one.

Wow! this sounds so cool. It's authentic R&B with genuine soul. -So this is the guy that created this song originally?

There's just no way you compare any of the other versions with the original - as woltgan says , Otis is the man. No one does this sorta thing better.

this is sweet; the Dead could rock this tune out a lot better than the Crowes though. Nobody touches the Big O on the mic though

The Crowes version is great of course but Otis is the man...he's the one who came up with one of the funkiest choruses ever!

As a big Black Crowes fan, I can say without a doubt that the original blows the cover out of the water. This is incredible music

I love the crows, but no one can top otis. This is a little slower, has more soul/funk to it. Plus Otis's tone is unbeatable.

kiss my neck - black crows, this is the shit.

black crowes version definitely sounds more fun, but I get the feel of the song more in this one.

If it wasn't for this version, the black crowes wouldn't of even had their chance to butcher it.
