I WAS AT CONEY ISLAND ON THE SLING SHOT , WHILE RIDING THE SLING SHOT ALL I WAS THINKING WAS ME BEING ON A PLANE THAT IS GOING DOWN , THIS SCARED ME TO DEATH N I WAS THINKING OF THAKING FLIGHT LESSON BOY I JUST CHANGE MY MIND FOR GOOD . I REALIZED THAT I LOVE BEING ON SOLID GROUND .
@Briankey1960 I too was a flying crew chief on the mighty C-141B, went thru a 5-level training on the C-17, but was able to stay on the 141 thru my AF career. When they ended up retiring them, a few were sent to museums but the rest were sent to the "bone yard" to be shredded. Sad day!
Reserves are the way to go. If i had to do it again thats how I would have done it. I personally think your control in getting what you want out of UPT AD is non existant. People say "dont suck" and "perform" but honestly just not everyone has it in them to be a good pilot their first year doing it. That said, you will enjoy most anything you go to fly as long as you make the best of it.
Zomg! I met the pilot and learned all the controlls and sat in the cockpit. but they didn't show the c-17 (flying) at the 2010 mchord airfirce base airshow
I just flew in one today with my NJROTC class..... Belive me its no comfortable flight.... Constant shaking and the pilot is frequently going positive and negetive Gs and its loud.... One helluva time though we got to see Vegas, 29 Palms, and Hoover Dam while 10000 ft above the air.
i go to air cadets in the UK - we dont even get a glimpse of c17s apart from when they bring back bodies to lyneham, and we dont even get to fly on the c130s?
Ah, the C-17....the ice princess of antarctica!.......LC-130's all the way...down and dirty and actually getting shit DONE! Do the 17's go to the south pole? Nope
/watch?v=VH-KDGRwwck - Russian documentary about NATO transport aviation with English subs. Including C-17 Globemaster III, C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, C-130 Hercules, C-160 Transall.
McChord isnt that far from my house, and about 2 of these fly really low right over me everyday. After by it for years you dont even notice it anymore.
Yeah, but it has backup "wire and pulley" flight controls in case the flight computer takes a shit, though. However, it only controls some basic stuff. Enough to get it to land.
yo dude srry to burst your bubble...but i have parents in the air force and we are @ McChord atm...and you pretty much dont get to do what you want when you join....my dad is always telling me you do what they tell you to do...
Actually you do get to choose what you fly. It is all based on your class standing during pilot training. Or you can join a reserve unit and then you get to fly whatever jet that squadron does. It worked for me, I am the guy flying the C-17 in the video.
Ahhhhhh ok....nice flying/landing as well..im looking at becoming a C17 pilot...go through the academy...my least favorite part is the landing....its hard for me
Im going to the summer encampment next week so i guess ill have to chat with you on the flight. If you get to make the decision, i think that doing some combat maneuvers would be cool. like steep turns and stuff.
Are you the Silvet bar (1st. Lt.) or the gold leaf (Maj)? And if you are a C-17 pilot you should know the ansewr to this question... How many escape ropes are there, behind the crew berth, and where exactly are they located? I build the this bad ass beast in Long Beach, Ca.
@hancockp728 hey do you think i will be able to join the air force with an I.T Degree? can you please tell me everything i will need to join please write back
@hancockp728 heey bud thnxs for all you do for your country and im 17 and next year im going to go to train to be a pilot and i have couple of questions what is it like to fly one of these and if you have flown in a fighter jet whitch did you like better thnxs look forward to some feed back
@yomomsajohn Your going to need a college degree and good grades to even have them look at you for flight training. The USAF pilot program is tough, and very competitive, you need to be squeaky clean at school at your personal life. It can be done of course, but it's not a wide open field, even flying the heavy's.
so YOU are those guys that are flying over my house all the time!! thank you for your service in keeping this nation safe. the sacrifices you make for this country, and the ones your family makes to support you are greatly appreciated by myself, my friends, and many family members.
nice vid... i flew in one from iraq to kuwait and whoever landed the plane was horrible... stalled and slammed into the runway.. lucky you had pretty good pilots

Is that a single stick for control? Not something I've seen before on such a large aircraft (Airbuses excluded)

@Acecombatgamertwo Those are two really competitive slots for pilots. Study hard, be the top dog in your flight school class, and hope for the best.

why does c17 has the cockpit like jet???i mean the screen in front of the pilot
ntabonkerleo 3 years ago
they are just heads up displays (HUD) they probably have basic flight control readings im guessing like altimeter and airspeed indicator
lunchbag08 3 years ago
It is a HUD, It basically like every computer thing cramped into one rectangular shap object that displays them
