BTW, this effect is hard to notice, and it is MADE WORSE BY THE CAMERA... Sure, phosphor trails are possible with Plasma technology. Even our CRTs can have phosphor trailing (it has really improved), in the 80s/70s the shows had apparent green ghosting...
Still, this is not as bad as the motion blur issues LCDs have whenever something moved--blurring, smearing, stuttering; you won't see that stuff on Plasmas, one reason they are better for gaming
Plasma televisions also generally have close to no input lag unlike most of the high end LCD televisions. That is a huge pro for me since I tend to notice input lag very easily.
Plasma and LCD televisions each have their own sets of problems (most of which are extremely minor) , but plasma is better for gaming as far as I'm concerned.
Very true. I would say Plasma is better for every type of usage--EXCEPT for a monitor/computer display. LCDs are made for that and will not have problems with uneven pixel aging, and will have sharper text, and no noise. But a Plasma is my choice for movies/gaming/TV shows... : )
I own a Samsung LNT4065F LCD. IT is great for gaming. Colors are great as is viewing angle. I prefer LCDs as a tech overall, since they provide a more crisp image--no flickering like CRT or PDP.
But all LCDs do have motion problems--mostly really noticeable when there are straight lines--like scrolling text.
Gears of War looks beautiful. But for example, I have to set the Rock Band vocals to STATIC instead of SCROLLING, since they will appear blurry.
Ok i have a 50 inch panasonic veirra plasma it is rated at 720p on the box but it can go to around 1080p apparently is that true? I also have been hesitant to play my 360 on it because of image retention/burn in should i be worried? My t.v has a game mode..is that ok to use for games?
No you really shouldnt worry too much at all. I used to be worried heaps about it but i done alot of research and had if for 6 months now and have played games for hous on end n no permanent burn in. I have an 08 Viera 1080p. Every now and then u might get a bit of an after image, but itll go away. Do be too paranoid just play games on it n enjoy it u made the right choice. Just change up the images every now n then n youll be fine, n if ur gona pause turn it to tv. U want more info let me know.
And no, if its rated 720p it cannot go the full definition of 1080p but rather, 1080i. Which an interlaced version of 1080p, which the "p" stands for progressive. 1080i is not as great as 1080p but its not bad at all. Some people prefer 720p to 1080i, but thats personal choice.
Which is better the Pioneer Kuro Elite 60 inch 151 or the Samsung 55 inch LCD, lets be honest here, which is really better? I would say the Pioneer Kuro Elite after comparing them at Best Buy. Second best top of the line is the Samsung 55 inch LCD, didn't like the picture on the Panasonic 65 inch PZ7.
I saw the 60 inch Pioneer Plasma at Best Buys last night, I have 2 admit, it was the best picture I've seen so far, its difficult for me to make up my mind which one i'm going to get because that New Samsung 55 inch gave it some serious competition.
yea but, pioneer and everything is great but theres this new technology called "Laser tv" and that things is going to make plasmas obsolete in a while. It has way better colors and picture quality than plasmas so...i wouldnt buy the laser tv stuff now because i never really trust new technology but i'll buy it in like 3 years, just to give it a little aging so the developers can fine tune the technology. but until then...pioneer is the 1 to go with.
Agreed. If you have teh space and the money, go for the Kuro, but no-one is going to be disappointed in the latest Vieras. As for the Samsungs, they are impressive, but a word of caution. A friend of ours works in an AV retailer and the failre rate he's encountered of the Samsung plasmas is far in excess of any other make bar the cheap and nasty budget brands.
and got to CNET(Dot)com everyone agrees that the Pioneer Elite Kuro 111FD is the best tv ever made, So quit trying to act like its at the level of a panasonic just because you brought a panny and you want to be proud of your purchase. Pionner 111FD is the best tv ever made period theres no argument there you cant argue with it your just jealous that its the best and you spended your money on a crappy panny.
My oh my, NOW who's sounding like a little kid "You just jealous cuz you brough a crappy Panny, theres no argument Kuro is the best period cuz "everyone" says it is.. Waaaah sob sob.." You sound like a fucking cry baby, i was just trynna be reasonable, and claiming they are both top of the line in thier own way... Is there any point with you? Go suck on a fucken dummy if you gonna be like that. GROW UP. Btw, guess who Pio is buying thier plasma screens off from now on?? PANASONIC! Haha!
The Kuro is the best plasma for sure....and they cost enough to make you think twice about buying them as well. That Pioneer no longer make a 42 inch screen has, however, handed the plasma market to Panasonic. The reason seems to be purely political now that Sharp own 18% of Pioneer and it's Sharp LCDs that are behind the new KRL series, which are awful! Lovely colours but dreadful backlight bleeding, banding and a very narrow viewing angle.

I agree, but the latest Vieras are definitely up there. Ive seen em side my side and they are both amazing tv's thats all im sayin. U can read any reviews about them too like the TH-850A, where they test em witht the Kuro, n in sum ways its better, and sum ways its not. But PQ is amazing on both. Im just sick if Theguyondownstreet's silly, immature arguments. Its like hes a Pioneer rep. lol. KRL crap? thats the new sony bravias huh?
I went into our local retailer with the intention of picking up a Pioneer only to discover that the 5090, while a lovely TV, is just too big for my needs and far too expensive. The KRL37 was sitting with no inputs and showing a black but active screen and the backlight bleeding and banding, as a result, were simply shocking. Looking dead on at the screen, the centre was black but the sides were literally glowing blue. No amount of adjustment could get rid of it! Very poor.
@TheGuyOnDownStreet Wait a minute. You say that Kuro is the best and Panasonic isn't. Okay. I agree with that. But if you spent your money on a panny that comes in 2nd place, how does it being 2nd best make it a "crappy panny"?. DAMN! Thanks for making me feel better. I actually do have ONE of the best plasma's.
@TheGuyOnDownStreet And don't try to turn it around and tell me that it's not. You worded your words the way you made it seem so don't try that. Thanks. ONE of the best. ONE.
Excellent. Then you can pay twice the cost for the same ghosting. ALL plasmas have a small degree of phosphor lag under such circumstances, even the latest Kuros. Just make sure you run in the screen properly for the first 100 hours and the effect is minimal. They're worse to begin with and then settle down. Either way, be thankful you don't own an LCD...
100% totally agreed! Nice comment bro. I have a Panny Viera 1080p and its trailing is practically non existent now its true as they wear in, the trails gradually decrease. And yes, i was skeptical about burn in, but the latest just dont get permanent burn. I jst dont worry about it anymore. peace.
The difference between the TH42PZ85u and the TH42PZ80u is really just an increase of contrast ratio and other little things. As for the flashes of yellow and green, it's probably due to C.A.T.S (Contrast Automatic Tracking System). Make sure you turn that off.
its hard to find a bad set well its not considerd bad but i'v been through diffrent tvs and stayed with a panasonic TH-42PX75u and i have no issues... i would be safe to assume that if you were to exchange it for the same model you will NOT find the same problem as its said "no 2 things are alike"
...Yeh, still Plasma all the way. Compare this to the ridicolous motion blur you get a even the best of LCD's and youll get the point people. But its all opinion in the end. No technology is without its downfalls. Although, this (phosphor lag) gets less noticable and fades with time on most decent Plasmas.
I'm all for Plasma, especially with movies obviously...And the fact that plasma has superior color, blacks and CRT-like response time...BUT, i've been hearing that when playing games on them they don't look as clear or crips when compared to an LCD...I don't know if that's true, since resolution is resolution
Honestly, absolutely not true. That is garbage. I have now a Panasonic Th-42800a plasma, and ave seen games through sum of best plasma's and LCD's and they dont look much different at all. And your right, resolution is resolution, ofcourse there are certain factors, like LCD motion blur etc. But games look amazing on a good plasma or LCD. Personally havent seen a game look better than on a Pioneer and Pana plasma though, this richness of the colours was just awesome.
CRT is still the greatest, as for Plasma, i'm just worried about ditherting and video noise, people keep complainig about it. Also are you talking about the Panasonic TH-42PZ8500U? if so isn't that the best Plasma out there right now(besides pioneer Plasmas) And I'm still confused weather to go 1080 or 720p, at least 1080p is native, but 360/ps3 games are mostly 720p, so would the picture look better or worse on a 1080p display?
Yep, its one the greatest imo. No video noise at all on mine, and "dithertimg? Huh? 1080p means you can sit closer with no deteroration of screen quality, and overall creates a beautiful clean and crisp look. With games, most newer games are in 1080p, 360 and PS3! They look unbelieveably good, better than 720p at the same distance. If a game thats only 720p on a 1080p tv, it will look as clear as 720p can get. In no way is it worse. Get 1080p if u want to future proof product, u cant go wrong.
That's the thing, i don't care for future proof, i only want this display for 2 years, then i'm upgrading as to why i dont want to spend over $1499. I've also heard the PZ8OU and PZ85U have mediocre color, especially when compared to the Samsungs 450,550 and 650 Plasma series. But the Panasonics blacks are better. But if the Panasonic had better color, i'd probably go for this model...
But the native 1080p res and solid blacks make this display appealing. damn. And what's the difference between the 8OU and 85U anyways? Personally i like the design choice of the 85U alot better, it does have a higher contrast ratio two, but people in the AVS forum cant tell the difference between the two
You should really check the settings man, becuase the PZ80/85U have amazing colour with the right settings. Especially for thier price. Although not as great as PZ800/850 but still great. Also, if you are checking in a very bright room, that is the worst way to judge a plasma. A plasma will ALWAYS look better in your home. Too much bright lights can slightly wash out the colours on plasmas. If you are check in a bright store, thats probably why.
I checked out the Samsung PN50A450/550 at BestBuy and the colors were better than the 80U and 85U, although the Panasonic had the slight edge on blacks....And you're right stores can be too bright and plasmas do look alittle worse because of it. But based on what people are saying in the AVS forums, the samsung is the better display, yet the panasonic has the edge on blacks, but the sammys are still great. But ya, i'm going with either the 450 or 550, not sure yet
lol. I cant believe i compared the PZ80/85U to the greatest higher end Panny like the PZ800/850U's which is right up thier with the Pioneers and even bettering them in many ways! lol. Unfair comparison thats all. But for lower end models i think the PZ80/85U is not bad but niether are the Sammy a450 so whatever floats your boat, whatever looks best to you after testing them out with different sounces, get the one. Happy buying! Let me know how ya go.
lol. ya man, besides the high end Pioneer models which are way too freakin expensive to even consider, the 800U is the best Plasma handsdown, but it's still too expensive imo.
The Panasonic plasmas suck, don't let the stat's fool you. Samsung's PN42A450 is a far better TV for a few hundred less. I own 5 HDTV's (LN32A-Series3 PN42A410 LN40A630 LN40A650) From my own expirence the PN42A450 is hands down the best one of the 5 and you can even set it to 1080P. PS3 and 360 games look so amazing on it, something about the DNIE makes them look so sharp and clear but thats just my opinion.
Oh I almost forgot, I had a 1080P Panasonic plasma with the 480hz drive but the green ghosting was so bad that I took it back the next day. Seriously unless you already own one and can't take it back don't get one they look great on paper but in reality theyre not worth it.
ya that can be really annoying to some people but not all people can see the green phosphor affect, I own a Panasonic plasma TH-42px80u and I don't notice it at all and it looks way better then my old Samdung PN42A450 tv and less burn in to =)
Are you sure it was a 450 and not a 410? I know the 410 burn in pretty bad but the Panasuckit TH-42P85ZU gave me burn in day 1. As for my PN42A450, no burn in or excessive power output and I play video games on it all the time.
You may have been gotten a defective unit, the first TH-42PX80 I got would get image retention within 2 minutes of static images so I returned it and I no longer have that problem with my new one, and you should run a break-in dvd or tv on zoom with low settings for the first 100 hours as this is when it's most prone to image retention. I've never seen burn in on a Panasonic but it'd take well over 24 hours of displaying a static image even if it is within it's first 100 hours of use to get it.
I did run sincity to break it in because it's mostly in black&white and I set it to repeat, I had to leave to go do some things when I got back home my ps3 was back on the XMB. So i'm like oh shit burn in, sure enough when I started my movie again I could still see the XMB, it went away pretty quick but I could tell that it would only get worse if I kept it. I also hate the overheating, no swivel stand and bland colors/color depth. It ran games well but they had awful aliasing/bad upscailing.
oh i see just some bad image retention then, it's really bad in the first 100 hours but virtually un-noticeable after 1000 hours, If it overheats you should keep it more ventilated, and I guess you can't really fix the banding issues. Some people do prefer LCD over plasma I understand, my bro thinks plasma sucks ass because of the duller looking less vibrant colors, where as I think the vibrant colors look way to unrealistic/cause loss of detail on his lcd, just a matter of preference i guess.
Anyways, ya i'm going to be sitting around 10 feet away from the 450/550 50" and I'm guessing I'd probably wouldn't beable to tell the difference from 720p and 1080p at that distance. i mean i really dont want to drop $2199 for the 550 just for 1080p when i can get the 450 for $1499 and a PS3/Blu ray. So what do you think? can you actual tell from 10feet when it comes to 1080p at 50"? I'm guessing not
No bro, 10 feet should be more than fine. Your tv will look nice, the average persons eyes could not really detect the difference at that distance. But if you start sitting at around 6 or 5ft watching a 50", then it may be a different story. But all in all, thats a great price and idea dude. And by the time you want to get a 1080p that price will have dropped so you cant go wrong bro, ive seen 720p plasmas at the distance and they look fine. And youll definitely be saving money, go 4 it!
Like you were saying before though, since the 450 has a fixed 720p res, 360 and PS3 games will look better on the 550 because those systems support 1080p, so you'd get that true 1280x720 resolution i'm guessing...But the question is, is it really even that noticable to a fixed 720 display? and is it worth dropping $700 for it, yikes!lol I'm thinking not...
And i've heard plasmas are fantastic with scaling, so i hope i dont get any lag with PS3/360 and Wii(my favorite,oh ya!;)) games...And besides i'm only keeping the 450 for 2 years and then i'm upgrading ;)
Pioneer is in a different league than any other television, dont say that just because you own a panasonic LFiers because that means your just being bias
Huh? What did i say thats bad about Pioneer? I love em. Just sayin that just because of thier reputation alone, that does not make them king of plasma in every respect. And judging by the many miniscule differences of Panasonic versus Pioneer... no wonder they are throwing in the towel. Thats right, they quit making plasma look it up. Anyway, all im sayin is that they arent much better than a Panny at plasma, and where they do excell, the price difference in far from justified. Get me? Hope so.
They arent king of plasma there king of TV's period, all the experts and everyone agrees the Pioneer Elite Kuro 111FD is the best tv every made so far even better than the CRT's pioneer isnt even that popular as to a panasonic or a samsung or a sony so wtf are you talking about, and read your facts dumbass there not stop making plasmas there just combining it. i'll send you the link to the article.
They should be good for the price! To buy even the cheapest run out of the 4280 is almost twice the cost (£1499) of the PZ85 (£799) over here in the UK, and that's an out of production model. The 5090 is £2000 so comparing Panasonic to Pioneer is like comparing a Golf GTi to an M3, two entirely different price points. That the Panasonics even come close is pretty damned impressive considering the saving.
As for the PZ85 having weak colour, you are kidding, right? I have to keep the colour balance of mine at less than 50% and the calibration is near perfect. The PZ85, 81, 800 and 850 all use the exact same panel. The only difference is in the firmware. The higher end models introduce Deep Colour and Digital Cinema Colour but most owners on the AV forums are agreed that switching all these options off actually gives a more natural picture! The less options you use, the better the picture becomes.
CRT is the greatest hands down...And really, what's the response time of a new high Plasma?....arent CRTs 0ms?...I know the best LCDs are at 4ms, but Plasmas response time is better than that.
It is called phosphor lag. Happens on alot of white surfaces in games. If you do a quick pan in any game that can move fast enough, you will see it. Some plasmas hide it better than others.
Have tested for this in-store (have access to around 30 decent sets) and plasma tends to out-perform lcd imo, it's more about the individual display rather than the tech tho

...Yeh, still Plasma all the way. Compare this to the ridicolous motion blur you get a even the best of LCD's and youll get the point people. But its all opinion in the end. No technology is without its downfalls. Although, this (phosphor lag) gets less noticable and fades with time on most decent Plasmas.
LFiers 3 years ago
I'm all for Plasma, especially with movies obviously...And the fact that plasma has superior color, blacks and CRT-like response time...BUT, i've been hearing that when playing games on them they don't look as clear or crips when compared to an LCD...I don't know if that's true, since resolution is resolution
Nyana999 3 years ago
Honestly, absolutely not true. That is garbage. I have now a Panasonic Th-42800a plasma, and ave seen games through sum of best plasma's and LCD's and they dont look much different at all. And your right, resolution is resolution, ofcourse there are certain factors, like LCD motion blur etc. But games look amazing on a good plasma or LCD. Personally havent seen a game look better than on a Pioneer and Pana plasma though, this richness of the colours was just awesome.
LFiers 3 years ago
CRT is still the greatest, as for Plasma, i'm just worried about ditherting and video noise, people keep complainig about it. Also are you talking about the Panasonic TH-42PZ8500U? if so isn't that the best Plasma out there right now(besides pioneer Plasmas) And I'm still confused weather to go 1080 or 720p, at least 1080p is native, but 360/ps3 games are mostly 720p, so would the picture look better or worse on a 1080p display?
Nyana999 3 years ago
Yep, its one the greatest imo. No video noise at all on mine, and "dithertimg? Huh? 1080p means you can sit closer with no deteroration of screen quality, and overall creates a beautiful clean and crisp look. With games, most newer games are in 1080p, 360 and PS3! They look unbelieveably good, better than 720p at the same distance. If a game thats only 720p on a 1080p tv, it will look as clear as 720p can get. In no way is it worse. Get 1080p if u want to future proof product, u cant go wrong.
LFiers 3 years ago
That's the thing, i don't care for future proof, i only want this display for 2 years, then i'm upgrading as to why i dont want to spend over $1499. I've also heard the PZ8OU and PZ85U have mediocre color, especially when compared to the Samsungs 450,550 and 650 Plasma series. But the Panasonics blacks are better. But if the Panasonic had better color, i'd probably go for this model...
Nyana999 3 years ago
But the native 1080p res and solid blacks make this display appealing. damn. And what's the difference between the 8OU and 85U anyways? Personally i like the design choice of the 85U alot better, it does have a higher contrast ratio two, but people in the AVS forum cant tell the difference between the two
Nyana999 3 years ago
Overall, the 85U Cost $300 more than the 8OU making it $1,799...As it stands i'm suck on the 3 models >
*PN50A450 50" 720p Plasma...
+Fantastic Color
+50"
-Fixed Resolution 1365x768 (720p Fixed)
-Blacks arent as good as the Panasonic
Nyana999 3 years ago
*Panasonic PZ85U or PZ8OU.
+ Awesome Black Levels
+ Native resoution 1920x1080 (1080p)
-Color isn't as good as the Samsungs
-The 85U is $300 more, why?
Nyana999 3 years ago
You should really check the settings man, becuase the PZ80/85U have amazing colour with the right settings. Especially for thier price. Although not as great as PZ800/850 but still great. Also, if you are checking in a very bright room, that is the worst way to judge a plasma. A plasma will ALWAYS look better in your home. Too much bright lights can slightly wash out the colours on plasmas. If you are check in a bright store, thats probably why.
LFiers 3 years ago
I checked out the Samsung PN50A450/550 at BestBuy and the colors were better than the 80U and 85U, although the Panasonic had the slight edge on blacks....And you're right stores can be too bright and plasmas do look alittle worse because of it. But based on what people are saying in the AVS forums, the samsung is the better display, yet the panasonic has the edge on blacks, but the sammys are still great. But ya, i'm going with either the 450 or 550, not sure yet
Nyana999 3 years ago
LFiers 3 years ago
lol. ya man, besides the high end Pioneer models which are way too freakin expensive to even consider, the 800U is the best Plasma handsdown, but it's still too expensive imo.
Nyana999 3 years ago
The Panasonic plasmas suck, don't let the stat's fool you. Samsung's PN42A450 is a far better TV for a few hundred less. I own 5 HDTV's (LN32A-Series3 PN42A410 LN40A630 LN40A650) From my own expirence the PN42A450 is hands down the best one of the 5 and you can even set it to 1080P. PS3 and 360 games look so amazing on it, something about the DNIE makes them look so sharp and clear but thats just my opinion.
187Sozum 3 years ago
Oh I almost forgot, I had a 1080P Panasonic plasma with the 480hz drive but the green ghosting was so bad that I took it back the next day. Seriously unless you already own one and can't take it back don't get one they look great on paper but in reality theyre not worth it.
187Sozum 3 years ago
ya that can be really annoying to some people but not all people can see the green phosphor affect, I own a Panasonic plasma TH-42px80u and I don't notice it at all and it looks way better then my old Samdung PN42A450 tv and less burn in to =)
infertagul 3 years ago
Are you sure it was a 450 and not a 410? I know the 410 burn in pretty bad but the Panasuckit TH-42P85ZU gave me burn in day 1. As for my PN42A450, no burn in or excessive power output and I play video games on it all the time.
187Sozum 3 years ago
You may have been gotten a defective unit, the first TH-42PX80 I got would get image retention within 2 minutes of static images so I returned it and I no longer have that problem with my new one, and you should run a break-in dvd or tv on zoom with low settings for the first 100 hours as this is when it's most prone to image retention. I've never seen burn in on a Panasonic but it'd take well over 24 hours of displaying a static image even if it is within it's first 100 hours of use to get it.
infertagul 3 years ago
I did run sincity to break it in because it's mostly in black&white and I set it to repeat, I had to leave to go do some things when I got back home my ps3 was back on the XMB. So i'm like oh shit burn in, sure enough when I started my movie again I could still see the XMB, it went away pretty quick but I could tell that it would only get worse if I kept it. I also hate the overheating, no swivel stand and bland colors/color depth. It ran games well but they had awful aliasing/bad upscailing.
187Sozum 3 years ago
oh i see just some bad image retention then, it's really bad in the first 100 hours but virtually un-noticeable after 1000 hours, If it overheats you should keep it more ventilated, and I guess you can't really fix the banding issues. Some people do prefer LCD over plasma I understand, my bro thinks plasma sucks ass because of the duller looking less vibrant colors, where as I think the vibrant colors look way to unrealistic/cause loss of detail on his lcd, just a matter of preference i guess.
infertagul 3 years ago
it could be your hdmi cable you need a monster hdmi this just to happen to me and seens monters hdmi i just got a way better hdmi
franciscot1 3 years ago
Anyways, ya i'm going to be sitting around 10 feet away from the 450/550 50" and I'm guessing I'd probably wouldn't beable to tell the difference from 720p and 1080p at that distance. i mean i really dont want to drop $2199 for the 550 just for 1080p when i can get the 450 for $1499 and a PS3/Blu ray. So what do you think? can you actual tell from 10feet when it comes to 1080p at 50"? I'm guessing not
Nyana999 3 years ago
No bro, 10 feet should be more than fine. Your tv will look nice, the average persons eyes could not really detect the difference at that distance. But if you start sitting at around 6 or 5ft watching a 50", then it may be a different story. But all in all, thats a great price and idea dude. And by the time you want to get a 1080p that price will have dropped so you cant go wrong bro, ive seen 720p plasmas at the distance and they look fine. And youll definitely be saving money, go 4 it!
LFiers 3 years ago
Like you were saying before though, since the 450 has a fixed 720p res, 360 and PS3 games will look better on the 550 because those systems support 1080p, so you'd get that true 1280x720 resolution i'm guessing...But the question is, is it really even that noticable to a fixed 720 display? and is it worth dropping $700 for it, yikes!lol I'm thinking not...
Nyana999 3 years ago
And i've heard plasmas are fantastic with scaling, so i hope i dont get any lag with PS3/360 and Wii(my favorite,oh ya!;)) games...And besides i'm only keeping the 450 for 2 years and then i'm upgrading ;)

Plasma is second to none in terms of flat screen motion handling. You wont have a problem there.

Pioneer is in a different league than any other television, dont say that just because you own a panasonic LFiers because that means your just being bias
TheGuyOnDownStreet 3 years ago
Get me? Hope so.
LFiers 3 years ago
They arent king of plasma there king of TV's period, all the experts and everyone agrees the Pioneer Elite Kuro 111FD is the best tv every made so far even better than the CRT's pioneer isnt even that popular as to a panasonic or a samsung or a sony so wtf are you talking about, and read your facts dumbass there not stop making plasmas there just combining it. i'll send you the link to the article.
TheGuyOnDownStreet 3 years ago
And when i said there the king of tv i wasnt talking about there rep i was talking about the technology thats inside of the tv. quit being ignorant.
TheGuyOnDownStreet 3 years ago
They should be good for the price! To buy even the cheapest run out of the 4280 is almost twice the cost (£1499) of the PZ85 (£799) over here in the UK, and that's an out of production model. The 5090 is £2000 so comparing Panasonic to Pioneer is like comparing a Golf GTi to an M3, two entirely different price points. That the Panasonics even come close is pretty damned impressive considering the saving.
Ali360 3 years ago
As for the PZ85 having weak colour, you are kidding, right? I have to keep the colour balance of mine at less than 50% and the calibration is near perfect. The PZ85, 81, 800 and 850 all use the exact same panel. The only difference is in the firmware. The higher end models introduce Deep Colour and Digital Cinema Colour but most owners on the AV forums are agreed that switching all these options off actually gives a more natural picture! The less options you use, the better the picture becomes.
Ali360 3 years ago
i have the 46pz80 same as pz81 and it looks wonderful
never got these yellow trails but the green ones. i saw them in killzone2 and oblivion with hight contrast edges most of all. none with movies or tv.
it has great colors but it's a 8bit so not as good as 10 or 12 bit of course
amdnovello 2 years ago
ah i got 300 hours on mine so it's not new anymore
but trust me it doesn't change much
panasonic comes with break-in already done

I wish they still made good CRTs, they are by FAR able to handle fast motion better than LCDs, DLPS, Plasmas, LCOS, etc.
Sal30 3 years ago
CRT is the greatest hands down...And really, what's the response time of a new high Plasma?....arent CRTs 0ms?...I know the best LCDs are at 4ms, but Plasmas response time is better than that.
Nyana999 3 years ago
It is called phosphor lag. Happens on alot of white surfaces in games. If you do a quick pan in any game that can move fast enough, you will see it. Some plasmas hide it better than others.
germanplumber 3 years ago 2
This is much better than the previous plasma sets that showed this problem. Still not as annoying as LCD motion resolution loss that every LCD has.

damn, that's annoying. no plasma for me.
whtchocla7e 3 years ago
Have tested for this in-store (have access to around 30 decent sets) and plasma tends to out-perform lcd imo, it's more about the individual display rather than the tech tho
