  • No wonder they all get along if they make that much money.

  • godz.... it's Attack of the Movie Trailer Voice!

  • Well, the skipping has finally stopped after. what, 18 months? I know that it was youtube's f**k up and not yours, Jesse. Now, Youtube, let's see if we can't get the audio/visual sync issue fixed.

  • @Ozzman500 Seriously. Ridiculous. Hopefully it will be soon.

  • what shotgun mic is he useing?

  • @poondoonproductions Sennheiser MKH-416 P48.

  • lagg?

  • Great stuff, even with the skipping. Any new word on that documentary?

  • nice slideshow

  • Seriously. I've been all over YouTube to get this fixed. It's been like this for months now.

  • Yes, it has. I've been glad that I had discovered this video long before it started doing this. I was able to watch it a few dozen times. Best of luck getting Youtube to fix the issue.

  • he looks like a science project

  • he sounds exactly like don lafontaine

  • blasphemer!

  • I wanna do voice overs

  • how to have a deep voice

  • His voice is so damn deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

  • he's doing a Don impression

  • in a world [unfortunately now] without don lavoiceover, there is this guy---deep voice minnesota man...who sounds like 100 foot trees splintering in the forest....

  • A shotgun mic for VO work? Not a studio condenser? Interesting.

  • Yep. Probably 70% of promos are cut on the 416.

    Great mic

  • He IS hot.

  • Wow. That's awesome. i'm a independent film maker. and I've recently got really interested in voiceover work. I would love to see more of this documentary. Thanks for showing!

    Matt

    MDR PROD

  • He sounds a lot like Don LaFontaine.

  • his voice is low... i think he smokes a lot xD

  • I doubt it, Ben is a health fanatic. Check out the video entitled "BPJ Training with Tom Nelson." Ben is in incredible shape.

  • lol it wuz a joke but ok now i got more information lol

  • Cool, i just wanted top set the record straight.

  • looks like hes had incredible plastic surgery to me and steroids.

  • who knew the guy behind the voice was hot.

  • Am I the only one who thinks it ironic that he does a ton of voicing for Fox.

  • How is that ironic to anything?..

  • This guy might be the only voice-over actor who can effectively emulate Don LaFontaine's voice reasonably...

  • What about Pablo Francisco? hahaha

  • Was ein Langweiler.

  • Jesse, I love the "Pop-up Video" style additions/changes you've made to this video. I've watched this video easily 30 times and you have made it that much better. Well done!

P.S. When is "Behind the Mic" going to be released? How can I procure a copy when it does? Thanks, man!

  • Thanks, glad to hear it!

"Behind the Mic" is on a bit of a hiatus. I'm planning to pitch it to a few networks and special interest stations, but I'm holding off to put the time needed into my own voiceover projects for the moment.

  • Well, I can't wait! I wish you the best of luck in/on both endeavours!

  • he is a sexy man for sure!

  • Ben is a warm, thoughtful, and handsome young man. I am glad he "forgave" me for saying he looks like a chimp. That was stupid of me. I wish him the best in everything.

  • I thought he was much older...wow...he is very young for his voice...thanx for posting...

  • Just going by his looks, I thought he was much younger. He's got a babyface, I never would have guessed he's 38.

  • Terrific voice! I'm quite jealous. Holy crap! You could fit China on his chin.

  • Ben Patrick Johnson and Don LaFontaine are getting PAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    great voice over work guys

What ever happened to 'Sid McCoy' the voice over guy who used announce the hair care products on Soul Train back in the day?

He had a cool voice too.

  • My thoughts exactly!!! Somebody should do a tribute site on him.

  • WOW WHAT A TALENT ...thanks for posting this. I've learnt so much from it. This guy is great.

  • omfg his face... does not mach at all!!! creepy...

  • He has such a sexy-ass voice! And to have great looks to much an incredible voice is so unfair! He has it all, brains, beauty, and a sexy voice! lol

  • I mean to say "to MATCH an incredible voice"

  • WANT.THAT.JOB

  • Men i saw him in WeHo couple months ago, he is so HOT he has the most gorgeous body you can ever imagine, keep the good work Ben.

  • holy shit....his face doesnt match his voice!

  • THIS is something I've always wanted to do, and I wondered who the "new" guys were behind the biggest trailers. Thanks for giving me some more insight into the VO world.

  • Hey Ben, love your work. Very inspiring!

  • I wonder if he wears lipstick outta the studio as well. haha

  • i thought i had seen all the VO clips there were to see on the net, but this is new for me. Thanks BPJ and JSDigital ! top marks, 5 stars.

  • I always had this secret crush on BPJ's voice (strange, I know) without ever knowing who he was or what he looked like ... this is well before becoming a fan of his web cast (Life on the Left Coast.) It's interesting to see how it all comes together - thanks!

  • not fair i want his voice

  • cool vid. interesting stuff. that's really cool that he can record stuff from his house! i wish most jobs were like that.

  • Yeah, it's an amazing job to have!

  • Great concept! I couldn't agree more about the industry. How about the lower-end people like myself? I run cnotespots dot com. I've been called the voicer pimp.

    Let's talk!

  • Hehe, checked out the site. Pretty cool concept! And I'd seen your effups video before. I'm glad you liked the vid!

  • hey jsdigital,

good job with the documentary. i felt like i learned a few things about the VO business that i didn't already know. very interesting stuff.

  • hahaha I wanna see the dude and the chick who do the disney channel voices..hahahahhhahahahaha

  • the dude would be cam "buzz" brainard. that would be a sweet interview. i know the guy who does disney channel asia promos, but havent yet met cam.

  • I love voice over work. Its one of those, "chosen few" jobs, yet so cool to watch behind the scene. Just as great as Mr. Johnson's voice is your documentary itself. It looked and sounded awesome. Just out of curiosity, what kinda price range would I be looking at for the HVX200 and light set-up you used?

  • Well, the HVX200 with a P2 card to shoot in Hi-Def is around 5 grand give or take. The lighting kit is a pretty basic 3 point Arri, though I think we may have used Lowel on this one. A good set for that can be around 1200. A nice Bogen 501 or 506 head on some tripod sticks runs about 200 bucks, plus a few small amenities here and there, XLR cords, etc. All in all, probably about $7000 or so. I'm not the equipment manager tho, just the director, so don't quote my quote!

  • A great documentary. Though I'm a little confused, that they transmit on ISDN. The bandwith is rather small. DSL would certainly be more appropriate. Maybe you should ask the actors about this issue.

I'm looking forward to your next projects. :)

  • thanks, satrestudios. as for why isdn over dsl, when it comes to transferring for live hi-res streams, VOIP (using dsl) is too slow for voiceover. the studios on the other end are sending music and sound effects data that needs to come in to the millisecond. dsl transferring and rerouting is too delayed. for a constant stream that's completely dead on accurate, isdn is just the most practical solution for VO.

i'm glad you enjoyed the doc!

    jesse

  • hey it looks like Ben put this up on his blog and gave you the shout out for it........very cool

  • yea, i heard from ben he was planning on it. pretty cool!

  • This is pretty cool! Get enough of these and you could have a really great documentary!

  • Thanks, Ed! I'm working on that. I've already talked with a number of other promo and commercial VO artists, and I'm hoping to shoot a 1 hour TV formatted documentary next year.

  • :O You made the documenatry? I assumed someone had stolen it off the TV and put it on youtube. It would be great to have a whole documentary about VO artists, its fascinating watchng them work...

  • Yes, I did make it. Yea, VO is one of the most interesting professions to analyze. I'm excited to expand this!
