Well, the skipping has finally stopped after. what, 18 months? I know that it was youtube's f**k up and not yours, Jesse. Now, Youtube, let's see if we can't get the audio/visual sync issue fixed.
Yes, it has. I've been glad that I had discovered this video long before it started doing this. I was able to watch it a few dozen times. Best of luck getting Youtube to fix the issue.
in a world [unfortunately now] without don lavoiceover, there is this guy---deep voice minnesota man...who sounds like 100 foot trees splintering in the forest....
Wow. That's awesome. i'm a independent film maker. and I've recently got really interested in voiceover work. I would love to see more of this documentary. Thanks for showing!
Jesse, I love the "Pop-up Video" style additions/changes you've made to this video. I've watched this video easily 30 times and you have made it that much better. Well done!
P.S. When is "Behind the Mic" going to be released? How can I procure a copy when it does? Thanks, man!
"Behind the Mic" is on a bit of a hiatus. I'm planning to pitch it to a few networks and special interest stations, but I'm holding off to put the time needed into my own voiceover projects for the moment.
Ben is a warm, thoughtful, and handsome young man. I am glad he "forgave" me for saying he looks like a chimp. That was stupid of me. I wish him the best in everything.
THIS is something I've always wanted to do, and I wondered who the "new" guys were behind the biggest trailers. Thanks for giving me some more insight into the VO world.
I always had this secret crush on BPJ's voice (strange, I know) without ever knowing who he was or what he looked like ... this is well before becoming a fan of his web cast (Life on the Left Coast.) It's interesting to see how it all comes together - thanks!
Great concept! I couldn't agree more about the industry. How about the lower-end people like myself? I run cnotespots dot com. I've been called the voicer pimp.
I love voice over work. Its one of those, "chosen few" jobs, yet so cool to watch behind the scene. Just as great as Mr. Johnson's voice is your documentary itself. It looked and sounded awesome. Just out of curiosity, what kinda price range would I be looking at for the HVX200 and light set-up you used?
Well, the HVX200 with a P2 card to shoot in Hi-Def is around 5 grand give or take. The lighting kit is a pretty basic 3 point Arri, though I think we may have used Lowel on this one. A good set for that can be around 1200. A nice Bogen 501 or 506 head on some tripod sticks runs about 200 bucks, plus a few small amenities here and there, XLR cords, etc. All in all, probably about $7000 or so. I'm not the equipment manager tho, just the director, so don't quote my quote!
A great documentary. Though I'm a little confused, that they transmit on ISDN. The bandwith is rather small. DSL would certainly be more appropriate. Maybe you should ask the actors about this issue.
thanks, satrestudios. as for why isdn over dsl, when it comes to transferring for live hi-res streams, VOIP (using dsl) is too slow for voiceover. the studios on the other end are sending music and sound effects data that needs to come in to the millisecond. dsl transferring and rerouting is too delayed. for a constant stream that's completely dead on accurate, isdn is just the most practical solution for VO.
Thanks, Ed! I'm working on that. I've already talked with a number of other promo and commercial VO artists, and I'm hoping to shoot a 1 hour TV formatted documentary next year.
:O You made the documenatry? I assumed someone had stolen it off the TV and put it on youtube. It would be great to have a whole documentary about VO artists, its fascinating watchng them work...

A shotgun mic for VO work? Not a studio condenser? Interesting.
