@GBeret83 I think it's best to judge a horse on how he runs on the day the race is run...not how he supposedly runs if the conditions were 'perfect'...in reality you may not get those perfect conditions. I think a horse proves himself by winning over any surface, not just a hard fast one.
I think Quality road in this race improved a lot from the Travers. He came from a 61/2 furlong sprint to a Mile 1/4 which is asking a lot and I don't think it was the right move myself,(but Todd Pletcher probably knows best).Quality road i think should have went in the Jim Dandy to prep for the Travers instead of a sprint. But Boy oh boy he improved a lot from the Travers, but I think that Q R didn't mind the slop. Summer bird raced super though.

Tizway ran a nice race...looked like he would fall all the way back, but fought on. Summer Bird looked great! I'm starting to believe he was just a little "green" going into the derby. He looks very mature now...no doubt!!!

You're thinking about the Macho Again scenario, and remember that she was pushed by at least 3 other horses before he even tried her, and still he couldn't beat her.
Yeah , But Macho Again Is Not A Great Closer , If That Was A Horse Like Gio Ponti Or Zenyatta Or Even A 100% Quality Road , They Would Of Went Straight By Her
and it was a muddy track? closers do not normally fair well on wet tracks.... rremember zenyatta in the Louisville Distaff ? exactly, it was a wet track
This race confirms that the Woodward older males were very weak and Rachel has no chance against a much improved Summer Bird and Quality Road specially on any race longer than 9 furlongs. Rachel's HOTY is NOT IN THE BAG!! Summer Bird should win it if he takes the Classic.
