Most people will not opt to live in that type of a shit hole barge. Water pod comunities will house sociaties digruntled and out cast. Nut jobs with attitude problems.
Gotta love Ella's accent and of couse rocketboom it's self...Very interesting, Almost every video of theirs I learn something new which is a good thing ;)
Until the chickens get sick and die. The concept itself probably wouldn't work even with a large vessel. A little virus mutation and your essential livestock die off and oh well.
water supply, im more concerned about the fuel to power the SHIP. You cant call yourselves enviromentalistis when you go around on a gas powered boat with solar pannels. You might as well just use the power from a generator.
Hey, very fascinating, this barge. I didn't fully connect the founder's statement between "nobody was thinking of rising seas" to the existence of this barge. Does that mean this barge is some prototype for when we start losing land that people can live on the sea? Or is it a demonstration of what we should be doing more of to reduce emissions? Very cool either way!
I know I'm a real dweeb for noticing/mentioning this, but those double toilet seats are very, very close to each other.
Yes, I seriously doubt they are completely self sufficient. Also lol 90% of food. This is a decent first step to show what CAN be done however. It can go much further.
I grow a lot more food, in dirt, in a smaller area.
ok, I guess in NYC there is not much room for a garden.
But what about a Community Garden?
That would be a much better idea. A group of people getting together, to cooperatively gain access to some land, as house block size is all you would need, then prep the soil, by hand! With a fork, no rotary hoe!
Then sow some seed, tend the patch and eat the produce.
This kind of project because it is not very accessible to most people.
eh not my cup of tea but cant hate on anyone who chooses to live like that. just hope your boat doesnt sink or you dont hate the people you live with.
Function over form. Paint isn't a chemical brew that is inline with the ideas these 4 people are experimenting with.
Most paint isn't eco-friendly. Why bother with aesthetics when the raw material is sufficient.
Houses are painted inside and out to keep nature from interacting with the walls, and for looks. Looks are a personal preference. No paint needed on a plastic panel.
Apparently they don't burn any fuel. It's powered by wind, solar and water generators. But they still need a boat to tow it. This is mainly a proof of concept though, showing what CAN be done fairly simply. Hopefully it expands and renews interest in floating cities.
yeah,,, this idea is somewhat like going back to the past. it is a wise solution, however i still think a modern and innovative solution can still work.
Most people will not opt to live in that type of a shit hole barge. Water pod comunities will house sociaties digruntled and out cast. Nut jobs with attitude problems.
Good luck!

Where do they get their diesel from?
The nutrients for the hydroponics?
I would have applauded a community garden, but this is so pie in the sky, rich hippy bullshit!
Sorry, but I grow more food than that, in a smaller space and I don't burn any diesel!
Another thing, the 5 month span of this project, I just bet they would not want to spend a winter on that boat!

This boat is NOT self sustainable!
Where does the diesel come from?
or the hydroponic nutrients?
or the water they initially filled their tanks with?
How about any kind of meat, dairy product, coffee, tea, flour, sugar?
You would need a pretty big boat to grow enough produce to barter for all the things you would need.
Nice idea, but misleading.
