  • Well now a lot of things make sense. I specifically asked my doctor about weight gain. It was why I got off the asthma medicine I was on before this. I was told it did not cause weight gain but I've put on about 12 lbs since using it.

  • on what medication are you now?

  • @souledfears With my weight loss and being more active my asthma is so much better I no longer take the preventative meds, just my ventolin once in a while.

  • I agree, for the last months ive being gaining weight like mad, until i realized it was symbicort! OMG!

  • Thank you for the info!!! I was just about to change my meds from advair to symbicort. The last thing I need is to gain more weight on top of what I am already trying to lose.

  • hello there thanks for the video i just started taking this medication yesterday nov 10 now looking 2 videos here symbicort weight gain now am so worried cuz i care about my weight am a thin guy and idont want this to happend to me now the question is... CAN THIS HAPPEND TO EVERYONE THAT IS TAKING THIS MEDICATION??? THANKS

  • @EricVerdolaga80 If you are taking as it is supposed to be taken you will most likely NOT have this side effect. I was taking it upwards of 7x a day (as I was mis-directed by my doctor), when the max is 2x.

  • @freshorangina ok am suppose to take it 2 times a day 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening

  • I'm a recovering anorexic that was STUPIDLY put on symbicort by my doctor.

When I called him in a panic after finding out about this side effect, he assured me that this "never happened". Ugh.

It's only been a month or so, but I am most definitely fatter. (I do not have a scale). My clothes still fit, but they don't fit WELL anymore. I'm going to see if he can switch me to Singulair (I'm on Symbicort for allergies) instead.

I'm scared the weight won't come off.

  • @alisondowns When it is due to the meds, you can tell. You feel out of control, and no amount of food will make you feel satisfied. When I gained, it was rapid, and a lot, 10 pounds a month for 5 months. If you are getting a good benefit from the meds, discuss it with your doctor, for me it made my condition worse. Be aware in how you are sensing the apparent weight gain, particularly because of your history with anorexia. If you need to, make a counseling appt to discuss these issues.

  • I'm having the exact same problem!! I started on Symbicort last September and I've gained two pounds per month since then!! Weird thing is no one wants to believe me when I say it's the medecine! My doctor and pharmacist says that it's not from the medecine! Thank you so much for the video...

  • You can call up the drug company and have them send you or your doctor the information. It is true that weight gain can come from other places, but if you are taking any kind of steroid, it can definitely be the culprit.

  • i was on something called seretide accuhaler, for the past seven years...and i gained a total of 60 pounds! i feel horrible...anyway, i am now on symbicort...worried that i will continue this way and soon have to compete on the biggest loser show or something....:( sigh....is there anything out there to control asthma WITHOUT steroids???

  • Hmm, not sure. My weight loss has helped my asthma a great deal. In fact, I am no longer on a preventative, and only need to take my ventolin if I am sick with a chest cold or if it is allergy related. I was taking it at the wrong dosage, so I am pretty sure that is why it affected my weight so much.

  • im now taking just one puff a day, sometimes even one puff every two days (symbicort) hope i can sustain that...and for weight loss...i dont know what to do...its so hard

  • It defo makes you super hungry!!!! i can eat and eat and never get full and makes your face bloatd I feel great video

  • I use Symbicourt and its been getting me really sick lately

  • i use symbicort but i dont use it everyday.. i use it once my asthma occur. and it helps..

  • I'm also on a pretty high dose of Symbicort for a couple of years now; the doc tells me to take up to 2 doses 4 times a day if needed, which always horrifies the pharmacist. I have also noticed some pretty inexplicable fat-bastard-itis over the last couple of years, despite a reasonable diet and exercise.

Unfortunately, it's been the thing that's worked best for my asthma. Tough call.

  • I hear you on that, for me the choice was easy because the weight gain made my symptoms so much worse.

  • wow this is really wierd. I have been on symbicort for like a really long time. Haven't really gained much wieght. I am really active and play alot of sports. I haven't really gained anything from using this inhaler. WIERD?

  • Side effects of a drug usually do not happen to every individual taking that drug. In my case my doctor had me taking it upwards of 3-4 times a day which is not how it is supposed to be used.

  • I was lying in bed the other night and had a thought...maybe I'm picking up weight because of Symbicort! I googled it and I found out it was a steroid inhaler. While I don't have bad asthma but for when I do have issues with it, I was prescribed Symbicort so that I wouldn't have to use my inhaler as much. I'm so DONE with Symbicort. You are beautiful, thanks for this video!

  • Wow...I''m glad you found that out and better before your surgery, so now you'll have more success with your surgery if you know everything your body is going through. By the way, I love your makeup and jewelry. My husband has asthma, is it safer than Advair? My son and husband use advair and combivent. Of course, not sure if they are safer or not.

  • Thanks so much, and yeah, I am pretty relieved I figured this out before hand. I am curious to see what my doctor will say when I go see her. As far as your husband and son, if their asthma symptoms are being well controlled with the current meds, then they shouldn't be changed. If they are having problems it's best to see the doctor and get a recommendation, but research the meds before taking them. That is the biggest lesson I have learnt from this.

  • Glad for your weight loss you are a pretty girl and I love the way you wear your makeup..love rosemary

  • Thank you so much! I loved your four things, and I am with you on how important the "I love you"s are. :)

  • Glad you figured that out - how scary!! You need everything in your corner, not working against you!

  • No Kidding! I am really glad I finally figured it out, and I have been feeling much better than I have in ages. I am even sleeping better. Yay! Which of course means I will be in better shape for my surgery in January. :)
