@Rocker8822 Compared to today's amps you mean? The difference is there are ZERO effects in this signal. Today's amps have preamp overdrive, which techinically is an effect. Put any modern amp on the clean channel and try to get sustain like that.
hi, i've tried swapping V1 tube to an old rca 12ax7 and rectifier to a mullard gz34. I'm not really sure if I'm hearing any difference really. How would you list the tone impact if you would have to choose from tubes, OT, PT, coupling caps, filter caps?
Do you have experience enough to give your opinion on parts upgrades and it's tone impact? Would be interesting to hear something directly from you, instead of reading millions of opinions on forums around the internet.
I have a 1966 JTM45 and it SINGS with the volume on 8! I LOVE my amp. This one sounds very similar to mine or at least as much as can be told from a video camera.
Ha ha. It doesn't really matter. I have a true true solid body Les Paul, two with the "swiss cheese" holes, and one chambered. I bet if I played them all back to back you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The whole "chambered guitars suck" thing is pure bullshit.
@murfdog19 Chambered guitars suck? That's why my ES-335 is such a piece of crap. Man, I'd have a hard time finding a guy to pay 50 bucks for it. They'd just look at those chambers and say "Man, that guitar sucks." LOL.
@normmccabe - 335s are semi-hollow, not chambered. There's a difference. But you're right in two ways - semi-hollows don't suck, and chambered guitars don't suck either. I've heard some great ones and some not so great ones.
@normmccabe Exactly. The whole anti-chambered campaign is nonsense. The same goes for the "purists" who are against swiss cheese weight relief. By the way, I'll buy your ES for $5 if you are really having trouble getting rid of it. LOL
@normmccabe Euh man chambered and semi-hollow are fucking not the same... And it's jsut because you just don't know how to sell a guitar properly or it's because it's almost broken... Or maybe because it's a Epiphone because you're probably a 14 years-old boy who don't hair on his balls and whose favortie band is Blink 182... Grow up kid
@kevenharbour I was being sarcastic, which you obviously didn't pick up on. I have a degree in jazz and I teach high school English and music. My musical taste ranges from early jazz to modern rock. No I don't particularly like Blink 182, but I am educated enough to realize that musical appreciation is a very personal thing and I don't mock people based on their preference. You may as well insult someone for liking hot peppers on their pizza. Who appears the juvenile now?

@ruffles272 no no no. you havent factored in shipping dude. but if your comment was true i WOULD have a ceriatone plexi instead of my stupid valveking... i hate 6l6's
Yep, if you read your tube history, the KT66 was a lower budget UK version of the american 6L6 tube, and in most cases can be used as direct replacements for eachother in amps.
30watt 5881 (fendery) tubes, with GZ rectifier tube (more sag, less aggresive diode rectifier) Jim Marshall's take on an early Fender Bassman. Depending on type of speaker, will give more aggression.
uhhh.... these are marshall clones hand built buy the guy you see playing in the video. he can build you one or send you a kit (for about $1000) to put together yourself. I built a kit and am extremely impressed by the result. these are no crummy HW marshalls... metroamp is the real deal.
i hate not bein rich, an havin plexi,s an a vibro verb, and a couple of engl amps, etc, i got the engl, and the marshall artist head, o what a tone, the little 30 watt artist, just with humbuckers on the clean,, monstrous,, good tone here too..
But playing it with a 2x12 with 25 or 30 watt greenbacks should not be so overbearingly loud that you cannot turn it up in a house with a bigger room.
But yeah, its still going to be very loud. Hopefully you have understanding neighbors.
i have a marshall 1987x (50 watt plexi ri) and run it through a cab with 2x12 30 watt greenbacks and its loud as hell at distortion volumes. so loud i havent even gotten to play it without a pedal for distortion at a gig yet, granted that dont exactly play huge theaters and arenas, but you get the point.
Question. I have a 2x12 avatar cab with two 30 watt celestion v30's, set at 8 ohms. If I got a 4x12 wired into 4ohm with the same speakers, won't it be twice as loud because of half the impedance?
I'm not sure about the theory behind it, but no, it wont. Because you'd have to alter the output impedance of your amp. I.e. switch it to 4 ohms to run a 4 ohms 4x12.
Decibel wise they are almost identical at a certain distance. The 4x12 projects further and actually gets louder the further away you get, to a certain distance. The 2x12 starts drop off about where the 4x12 opens up. I gig with an oversized 2x12 and I can juice my tubes harder and not cut the heads off people in the audience.
I think thats true for valve power amps. If you plug a 4ohm speaker into an 8ohm outup of a 50W amp you get 50W for a while then a dead output transformer/power valves, possibly flames. ..However tranny amps do double in wattage if you half the speaker impedance and the amp doesnt 'know' because they have no output transformer. ie if you plug a 4ohm speaker into the 8ohm output of a 50W tranny amp you get 100W but the amp will quickly burn out and possibly catch fire. (Thermal runaway).
A few amps like the Peavey Bandit hav special circuitry which allow an increased wattage with lower impedance but still not double.
(BTW if you were to plug a theroretical 0.00001ohm speaker into the transistor based headphone output of an iPod you'll get something like 1000W of power for a tiny fraction of a second, then POP! no iPod)
could you make a video of the 67' marshall copy. Im very interested in buying it, but i would like to see a video of it. Also, does the 67' metroamp come i na 50 watt version?
Sounds great, I bought one of your 68 circa 50watt plexi's from one of your customers trying to pick a cab to match it. the Blue Alnico are to low in watts? Any knowledge of the Gold alnico?
hey wad up..in the backgroud by ur head, (what appears to be a full stack...) what model head is that? if im not mistaken is that the 59 SLP? just wondering...
also, you can save money by building the kit, and the customer service is the best, and that is something thats lacking in most companies now, so don't settle for some crappy everything-mounted-pc-board thing when you can get a metroamp for the same price
I recently built one of his amps from a kit. Let me tell you, thats the best way to go about it, because you learn alot and then can change the circuit around to your liking, I blasted it a few nights ago with a drummer, I though I was gonna bust a nut on myself, its amazing tone, better tone that you CAN imagine unless you've played it. seriously.
nice guitar but the amp sounds like shit...LOL JUST KIDDING...
Metro amps are the best Marshall clones in the world. I have learned a tremendous amount just from the forums at your site! If I had the $ I would def. get one. But sadly I had to settle for a Marshall dsl which is nice, but no comparison
I am interested in buying a 100 watt kit. How difficult would it be for someone like myself with limited experience in electronics. Also, I live in Michigan, can I pick it up in Burton?
lol, this is a blues/classic rock amp... If youre looking for one of these amps dont expect anyone much to be shredding and sweep picking with distortion or anything.
of those two speakers, the golds would be better since they are 50w and the blue is only 15w (more watts tend to give a speaker more lows and a bigger cleaner sound), but the best speaker to use for classic rock as well as metal is probably a G12H30, Ted Weber makes them, much better than the stuff celestion sells today and for less $.
malmsteen have a great tone to "play" shred the licks of classical, baroque music, but he cant rock with classic of rock like wayward son, rockin in free world, or back in black :P
A great amp The Marshall JTM45. I built a clone myself from scratch(not a kit) and noticed that Vintage tubes, Vintage speakers and Vintage Guitars make a BIG differance in getting a great tone. Vintage re-issues of guitars and speakers are good but the new tubes still need some work to get there.
i prefer the clip with the greenback, but that alnico blue are awesome!
also, i remember that i bought some important parts for my jtm45/100 dual rect crazy project from metroamp and its a really good help for our projects thank you very much!

it does. +3dB with every extra speaker i believe.
fend14 3 years ago
that's actually a myth. Speaker efficency is the only thing that makes a difference.
If you put your ear next to 2 computer speakers, and then next to 4, there is no difference in dB. All that's happening is more spread.

That's what i mean. If the amp is pushing 4 ohms out instead of 8 ohms, it will be moving twice as much air and hence twice louder.. right?
p0pkorn88 3 years ago
I have no clue about ohmage.
However, from experience, i can promise you it's not twice as loud.
A 50 watt amp running 8 ohm speakers is not double a 50 watt running 4 ohm speakers.
kool98769 3 years ago
So are you telling me that a full stack of V30's plugged into a 100 watt head is just as loud as a 2x12 with two v30's?

what would you suggest that i buy celestion blue or gold i play rock and metal ???
Ollyknkn 4 years ago
of those two speakers, the golds would be better since they are 50w and the blue is only 15w (more watts tend to give a speaker more lows and a bigger cleaner sound), but the best speaker to use for classic rock as well as metal is probably a G12H30, Ted Weber makes them, much better than the stuff celestion sells today and for less $.

1) Great tone.
2) I sure wish I had a basement...I hate Florida slab-houses, for that reason.
