Can I lay down some clarification here?

Giegue and Giygas are the SAME being!

The Japanese versions of Mother 1 and Mother 2 both have Giygas as the same name.

The original Mother game was canned and as such the name "Giegue" was inconsequential to the U.S so the translation team needed not worry about continuity with a game that was never released.

That was is why the names are different.

Giegue = Giygas.

Just to invalidate that argument even further, the true (Japanese) title of this is 'Cease to Exist'. The title fits Gyigas a hell of a lot better than it fits Pokey.
