That will have a huge impact throughout society--anyone with mental health problems can get help before their lives are devastated and before they become chronic problems to their families or society. It will have an impact on homelessness, substance abuse and domestic violence.
This is a plan to keep the insurance companies making money off of healthcare and to keep companies paying for healthcare. The European and Canadian systems take this burden off companies giving them an advantage. This is not "a truely universal" healthcare proposal. It is a half-a-loaf measure that will not work any better than the present system. Insurance companies need to be out of the healthcare system. Of course, there might not be as many lawsuits for trial lawyers then.
You need to find out more about the European and Japanese systems ... the German system, for example, is funded through company premiums.
And a plan that ensures that everyone can receive health care is truly universal. You may prefer single-payer, but there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Actually, it's the Bush and Schwarzenegger plans that are fraudulent. It seems pretty straighforward to me. Strengthening Medicare/Medicaid. Provide tax credits on a sliding scale. Would you like someone who is thoughtful towards persons living in poverty or or someone who tells you they won't raise taxes or some other issue and then does it anyway?

It will make private health insurance companies shape up because they will no longer be able to pick and choose patients they will insure AND they will have to compete with a government health plan.
