  • do u have to use a soundcard for the ddm400 to work with ableton?

  • @theirishfront12 If you wish to use it as a pure controller yes. If your running the lines into the mixer like you would then obviously no. It uses regular midi cable not a USB, these can only transmit data signals & not audio itself.

  • very helpfull thx

  • kool dude, that's whut I wanted to know:)

  • do you need a sound card to connect it to your computer and would it work with vdj and would your headphones work with it to cue up the next track thanks :)

  • i'm trying to do this exact same thing instead of a korg i'm using an akai mpd24 , the mpd24 is detecting the signal but when i try to map something is like ableton isnt detecting it at all , i'm getting really frustrated:s

  • have made sure you have turned it on under the midi options?

  • yes , i turned on all the midi ports , in and out , i'm thinking on reinstalling everything because i can't understand what's hapening , the mpd software seems to find everything in order.

  • maybe the mpc is using a specific midi channel? It could be a midi channel problem

  • if it was that shouldn't activating all the channels solve the prov??? i dont know a lot about midi.... thanks for the helps anyway!!!

  • yes the program has a universal type setting ( can't think of the actual name) but I have an large Yamaha keyboard that could be used as a controller & Live has the same trouble with that. I'm not sure if both the app & device have to be compatible with the send on all channels ?

But I always put that down to midi ch problem

  • how do you use the soundcard of the mixer (prelistening) with ableton? like if i am playing a loop on the first channel (of ableton) and i want to cue the second channel (of ableton)

  • @gigagigi hmm I never did it as i was just showing an example of the mixer with midi working in Ableton. But you could set where to route it to in Ableton & you would have to to use the port on the sound card / interface you routed it to, to plug in the headphones.

  • so wait, do you have to have a midi controller with a specific crossfade knob on it? mine has like the normal ones where you turn it, but the crossfade will on react to this as if i was pressing a button. so it goes to the left then the right, I can't get it so it turns slowly with the motion of the knob.

  • the cross fader should blend / mix sound sources & level & do this in stages between point A & B & it should be the same in the software. it should be able to move from A to B & anywhere in between & the assigned controller should be able to do it. Otherwise its just working like an on /off switch betwwen the channels

  • yeah mine is acting like an on/off switch when I assign a knob to it, I was just wondering how I can fix that, or maybe i need a slider on the midi controller?

  • hmm if you have a vertical slider you could try that, turn it on its side like a crossfader if it helps.

Really all midi sliders & knobs should have steps (27 steps I think) you might have something that can change settings on your device you might need to look at. I know m-audio controllers have software to change stuff

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was on the verge of buying the Xone 4d but I think this will do nicely.

  • ok I will try looking for one,thx for the help.

  • I just bought a new hp laptop and this behringer,I am looking to run traktor pro with this behringer thru my laptop,I am running windows vista 64 bit, what midi cables do you recommend using for this?

  • look for a cheap USB to midi adapter cable on ebay 1st

  • will the audio from say ableton live play through the headfone jack(can i use this as and external soundcard)

or will i need to bye one seperate

  • I'm not to sure having not used it for DJ' ing with Ableton Live yet just for controlling soft synths & effects in arrangements etc.

But if you use mini jack to RCA out put cables from your sound card into your mixer. Just like you would a pair of CD players then you could use the mixers headphone jack / cuing section just the same as you could with the CDJs or TTs & also use the DDM 4000's own effects over the top.

  • Are all the parameters mappable?

  • The only thing I had trouble mapping was the FX section. I think this is so if you decide to DJ with it in Live & feed the sound out of your soundcard ports into the mixer, like you would a TT or CDJ you can still use the efx the mixer has too.

Behringer has a pdf manual on there web site if you look at it there is a map for all the midi send & receive

  • *bookmarked* i'll be needing this when the government gives me my $950.

  • hey your video helped me alot, thanks, keep it up!

  • that's cool, cheers
