  • I've never heard a "bad" Undertones song.

  • Makes me feel young and happy, 100% with you on that bibchen007.

  • Absolutely fantastic to rediscover this - I don't think I've heard it even once since it first came out 30 years ago! What an injustice given some of the rubbish that is played on the radio instead.

  • love it. listened to it dozens of times now. well underated, just came out when other big bands were on the scene same time.

  • So that's where Morrissey get's his microphone technique.

  • @timtimminz I see what you mean. Well observed.

  • have listen to the first 30 seconds about 12 times now

  • this is amazing! - the dynamic after the 23 second intro is genius

  • This was apparently written about Óglach Bobby Sands MP, it's a great song regardless but for me the meaning behind the song is what makes it extra special. RIP Bobby.

  • All those fucking useless, talentless imposters such as Coldplay, Oasis, Snow Patrol, The Script, e.t.c, (yawn) take note, this was a band who actually had talent..

  • Just found this song on one of their old vinyls, love it!!!!!

  • Watch the Peel- Undertones documentary here on YouTube. They were under pressure to speak out during the Bobby Sands hunger strike by the locals in Northern Ire. They had carefully avoided politics because they could end up getting hurt by either side. This is about changing the British govt's mind in occupying NI. One of the brothers wore a black armband when they played it on Top of the Pops-signifying solidarity with Sands. He said he did not want to piss of Protestant fans. Great band.

  • Reminds me of Our trip from New Zealand back to the old land. Northern Ireland...July 1981. We stayed at Faulkner's, Grange, outside of Cookstown. I remember alot of military and the odd bloke shot dead, but what I remmber most was the orange marches...Awesome!

  • This is the first record I ever bought.....please give me the addresses of all the people who disliked this video...some serious face slapping is called for. A great band who were not truly appreciated at the time.

  • the undertones songwriting just got better and better - this is a really intelligent piece of pop - god knows how good they would have got had they stuck together

  • So that's where Jack Black got his moves and hair cut from :'D

  • 5 dislikes ! what is wrong with these people ? a tune is a tune and this is a TUNE ...

  • Reminds me of the early 80's. Brilliant. Thank you.

  • feargal sharkey doesn't look irish

  • I love the Undertones.

  • forgotten what a great track that was !

  • fooking brilliant ..proper tune ..

  • Great song. Cheers!!

  • the thing i love most about these guys is the fact you know for sure they were having fun doing what they do.

  • Everything goes when you're dead. Every thing empties from what was in your head. ....Two faced to you when you're taking them on.... This song has always been about suicide to me, am I wrong? Absolutely amazing lyrics this is one of my favourite songs ever.

  • fantastic song!!!

  • GREAT !!!!!

  • I cannot find anything on these guys. I love everything I've heard, and I want a torrent so bad.

  • @miniraptorX You can buy all their CD's on Amazon!

Go on, support the band and buy their music.

  • so frickin cool it's ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!! Sharkey rules!

  • No suggestion of the IRA in that video though eh?

  • ,the undertones produced some good tracks, this was my favourite although i think it could have been better with some different production, nontheless a really good catchy pop song that still makes me smile!

  • Derry’s best.

  • Am I just getting old or has this kind of melody, energy and songwriting just disappeared?

  • @heckmacbuff :–(

  • @heckmacbuff it's a recessive gene or DNA

  • @heckmacbuff Might I add "affliction & passion"?

  • @SuperDsaster Affection, I meant affection! Dang, so much for my songwriting abilities...

  • @SuperDsaster infection ??? see a doctor... ;-)

  • Had totally forgotten about this !! What a great song..

  • john was a great songwriter, this is a fantastic song!

  • THE MOST UNDERATED BAND EVER, COMIN FORM SOMEONE WHO WAS THERE AND HAD SEEN THEM IN 79 OR 80!

  • This was the first seven inch vinyl i ever bought, i was 11, agree with you bigsi1968,this is a transporter for sure. Undertones were very talented, they dont make em like that anymore...

  • I'm an Aussie and I have never heard this song before in my life. Must have been very Euro.

  • Guitar intro...legendary.

  • Babyshambles must've been inspired by them for sure ^^

  • Mutts Nuts

  • I forgot that Fergal Sharkey has a face resembling a frying pan.

  • Did not like the undertones when i was a teen. All the MODS followed their music. I was a skinhead into Bad Manners etc... Have to say,now ive grown up (i think),,, this is fucking MINT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh bullshit I was a teenage punk rocker i'm 50 this year (christ!) the Undertones were never a mod band second generation punk for sure.

  • Haha knackeroo we all get old but I was a punk rocker (junior membership) I think the Undertones came under the banner of "New Wave" whatever that meant.

  • cheers for the history lesson kieron. if we re released it it would be its gonna happen as in reference to the great depression top tune

  • fantastic sound

  • I had forgotten just how good the brass section is on this.

  • After the Undertones Teenage kicks EP this is my favourite Undertones song.

It really is a good feel song.

  • The first Undertones song I've ever heard.

Remembering taping a live concert on VPRO-radio in '81 or '82. Probably in Paradiso Amsterdam. Lost the tape sadly. If anyone still has it...:).

BTW can anyone put nickgen123 out of his misery.

  • Don't tune in!

  • ...everything goes when you're dead

  • Most music of this time sounds dated and frankly a bit sad. This just sounds shiny bright & brilliant. The chorus should be adopted by Amnesty as their anthem & Derry should have a huge bronze of the boys in front of the town hall. I saw the Undertones in Hemel Hempstead many moons ago and that remains the best live performance I have ever seen in spite of the time warp idiots who did not realise gobbing at bands was old fashioned 5 years previous.

  • what is the message of this song?

  • Brilliant

  • absolute classic

  • Sublime. Jesus, they were something else.

  • The video is mad I wonder what it's about Great song

  • Great song

  • UNDERTONES:D fucking great!

  • houses down £88,000 in kensington sure is gonna happen

  • there is indeed some skill at work here. The lyrics are strong and the overall work of the band equals that strength.

  • but what is the message of the song dude?

  • The sound gets pretty brassy and raucous compared to the LP, but this is still a glorious pinnacle of the Undertones' work, really the culmination of their unparalleled melodic gift, and a perfect example of their ability to interlock complex instrumentation with flawless vocal to produce a work that gives pure pleasure.

  • fook me it's fergal, havent heard this since I had spots and wet dreams

  • HaHa Ha Ha ha Ha ha hA Ha made me laugh a little

    Cheers

    Buddy

  • SENCILLAMENTE SENSACIONAL
