  • Karen and Richard Carpenter rock!!!

  • Narrator twice says Albert instead of Alpert. Hasn't got a clue what he's on about.

  • Jimmy Hendrix listening to Mantovani? LOL!

  • Cool.... I love this music

  • Bert Kaempfert once said : " My music should please people. If it doesn't, it has missed it's purpose ". And the people who liked his music, were not hundreds, not thousands but MILLIONS. So where's the problem ? To all those 'commentators' who say "pffff just elevator music" : then YOU write or compose a song like "Afrikaan beat" or "Spanish eyes" !! We'll then talk again about "easy" or "maybe not THAT easy" !!

  • @Socratess2007 There was just a documentary on here about how music is interpreted in over a dozen parts of the brain. We're all prewired pretty much for likes & dislikes, including music. For us, to hear the orchestrations we love is like a kaleidoscope for our ears. To the doubters & naysayers who find it dull - we'll never convince them. It takes imagination to appreciate this music as well as to create it. The subleties of texture are in this music for those who are able to enjoy it. chuck

  • Why the fuck aren't these segments numbered?

And the critics interviewed seem to be willfully ignorant.

And newsflash to Tamara Conniff: your dad really wasn't the be all end all of '60s music as you seem to imagine.

  • @spliffqueeg But the segments ARE numbered, 1-6. I've spoken with Monica Mancini, Tamara Conniff & Stu Phillips myself. They are all humble & genuine people. I didn't think Tamara overhyped her dad at all. Conniff was still the 10th best selling artist ever when he died in 2002 - 70 million copies of 101 albums sold - that says SOMETHING, doesn't it, even if it's not what you wish to hear?. And all done with session musicians, never his own orchestra. Ray Conniff was indeed an EL industry giant.

  • @chkjns ,

I doubt if you'd have any idea of what I'd like to hear, and I could do without the all caps shouting.

Monica Mancini was well spoken and seemed charming and proud of her father's place in the history of popular music. The interview with Bert Kaempfert's daughter was one of the most fascinating segments. And by the way, the space age blue and white decor of the room where she was interviewed was stunningly beautiful.

Ms. Conniff was not informative and to me seemed obnoxious.

  • The "critics" interviewed in this work are often wrong or simply ignorant. They seem to be unable to acknowledge that "pop music" was also a massive industry - not some political revolution.

The composers are often interesting, though.

The editing is often really unfortunate - it ironically tries to undercut or otherwise subvert comments by the composers. The editing perspective is clearly on the side of the bogus "critics" - who should really read up on materialist theories of culture.
