well in wikipedia (spanish version) says that the object falling from the sky is a satellite and you can hear the creature roaring, and also says that slusho kill cloverfield's mother, with the satellite or some kind of experiment, so the baby wake up alone and just came out, crying and scared, so he destroyed everything, well I don't know why in wikipedia (english version) don't said anything of that, but in the spanish version is all the information, hope it helps and sorry for my english, bye

I dont know for sure if it's the creators that said that it was from underwater but pretty much all the theories revealing the creatures origins points to it being an underwater creature.

The producer confirmed that what fell from the sky in the ending was indeed a satellite, so main theory points that the satellite was the cause of the creatures awakening.

We do not know. At the end of the credits, you hear a faint voice say "help us" meaning they may of survived, but for all we know it could be a tech glitch in the camera, making us think they were alive.

Maybe he are :P. I can just recall that JJ Abrams have said that its an satellite from the company that makes Slusho. And Clover is a "animal" that lives deep down in the ocean, which is awoken by the satellite. Clover is a baby who finds itself on shore and misses his/hers mom. Thats why it roars all the time. It could also be a reason why the militaries bombs cant hurt Clover. If it come from the ocean where the pressure is enormous.

If you watch carefuly in the begining the one in the streets before they go into the subway you can tell its an older monster its missing teeth has wrinkles and its huge

I like this movie for many reasons the dual deterioration of their relationship and Manhattan being destroyed offset by clips of when they were happy is edgar allan poe-ish (the fall of the house of Usher) and vibes of the film noire genre and german expressionism....and the ending of today i had a good day and the irony of the ending was A+
