Weller and Sting have one thing in comman , they both left their bands to go solo , but neither ever reached the heights that they did when with their bands.
this song is about how real friendship takes a backseat to self interest...how true, l got this album when i was 12, l'm now 44 and this song hits the nail on the head.
Don't know what you mean, but any half intelligent person can see that Weller has sold out with regards to 'the values that he had once upon a time' and therefore one assumes that he now sympathises with the writer of the letter upon which this song is based.....
Don't know if someone removed my previous comment, but this could be Weller's comment about his former bandmates when his solo career was 'taking off' and they were taking him to court on the ground that The Jam was a band of 3 'brothers', not just one. Weller is possibly the best English songwriter there's ever been, but worship not false idols, as he himself suggests in songs like 'Porcelain Gods'.
all grown up and still enjoying this track
