over-engineered cars are easily prone to defects, especially electronic defects, which means a big , unnecessary ownship cost. When they become frequent visiters of mechanis garages, what sort of luxury you can get? A poor,bitter-sour ownership! Am I wrong?

phaeton looks cooler, and has less "ego emissions" ( according to VW) i think it looks a lot nicer than the audi

That may well be the case but a company won't have a business case for a multi-million pound project for those reasons alone. My guess is that it was designed and developed to be the basis for Bentley models, which it is.
