  • I met Bob Keeshan in the 1990's, when I worked for a major media outlet in Houston, Texas. Bob was there for a child advocacy conference. When the grapevine rattled throughout the Houston Chronicle that Captain Kangaroo was here, old editors, brusque newsmen & surly photographers became children again! I was in awe of his humbleness. Sixty crusty newsmen gathered and asked for a photo together with the immortal Captain. Bob was a sweetheart. Such adoration to a great man. RIP, Bob.

  • treasured memories

  • I have done this as part of my coffeehouse set.

  • I thought that bunny was creepier than Dark Shadows!

  • 30 years ago I would have DIED to wish that composers who could write music such as this were the norm because I regarded this as simply hack work. NOW. I wish some MAJOR composer had the caliber of talent to produce something as important and wonderful as this. He doesn't exist.

  • Alice Cooper(among many others)was a huge fan of the CK theme. In the book BILLION DOLLAR BABY, Bob Greene relates an incident during a recording session in 1973 where Alice begs the keyboardist to play the tune.

  • The Original "CBS Morning Show!"

  • Because sheri451 we have become bongle from the jungle mentaly and tv erfefeict,s that. All tv show,s have to now please the whinng bongle from tthe jungle.who if they dont,t get their way. Howl like banchees about how the white man is so racist and mean. If any of these progam,s are remade guess what mentley they will be based on. To bad we cant,t go bback to these times. But we have become to polticly correct and santized and to much of but kissin the bongle from thhe jungle

  • @sophie1065

How right you are and many years from now there will be those who marvel at how such a great nation and land of plenty was brought low.

  • I ADORED Captain Kangaroo as a child. Why can't they remake programs like Captain Kangaroo, and Romper Room.

  • @Sheri451 if they remake them it will destroy our fond memories sheri..todays standards have decreased to reality show mentality.I agree our children need this type of enrichment. In todays world it will not happen.

  • @ohiosouthpaw You're right. There are still some children's entertaiment on TV, Disney play's programming for children under 5 until 11:00AM. Except on weekends and in the summer. And Nick Jr plays prigramming for them 24 hours a day. I take care of a three-year old, her parents don't want her hearing bad language, I agree with them 100%. But I know she's going to hear it when she starts school. I was protected from bad language as a child. I wish our little ones now were too.

  • I had this song stuck in my head for a long, long time. I would whistle it for people to see if they could tell me where it was from...and no one could. Then I heard it among some TV theme songs. Thanks so much for posting the full version. It brought back memories.

  • I loved this show

  • This theme is an musical inversion of the Vivaldi "Gloria"! Compare it!

  • So glad to have had CK in my childhood. The golden era of television. Now ABC, CBS, & NBC churn out nothing but #*%!

  • This sounds a lot like something Leroy Anderson would have composed.

  • Somebody needs to post a segment of "Dancing Bear" from the late sixties or early seventies. They must have had a professional noble dancer at that time because the way he moved was very professional, and the costume was of a superb fashion during that timeframe. Thank you for posting this fond childhood memory.

  • Thanks for posting. Man i enjoyed this show. But we not alowed to watch TV before school. Had to wait until summer, vacations, etc. Mr. Green Jeans, that moose, and bunny rabbit.

Oh... the ping pong balls. Loved 'em The little shorts of film and music and etc. were so much fun, i remember 'an english garden' from this show 45 years ago, still one of my favorite songs - Ha!! Thanks again, a real treat. Blessings ~ r

  • Hey dissolve4: You win. Your prize? Dancing Bear at your next birthday party.

  • Best theme song in the world!

  • Quiz: The music would stop when Captain kangaroo would ________.

  • @KC3141 Hang up the keys.....

  • It's the Isle of WIGHT. The Beatles sang about it, too.

  • That bunny Rabbit was such a rascal !

Always making off with the carrots and then if that wasn't enough...

PING PONG BALLS ! oh oh Just where did all of those ping pong balls come from ? ( The world will never know ).

Wake up Grand father clock...(always snoring ).

  • Mr. greenjeans looks like a stoner!

  • God bless all the actors in "captain kangaroo"

such a huge part of my childhood.

  • @phineas117 Yay!

  • @phineas117 I agree!

  • @phineas117 I watched The Captain all the time....but, he wasn't Captain Kangaroo, he was Cappy Roo. Loved him.

  • I'll be humming that song all night in my head... all of us kids would watch Captain Kangaroo every morning. It was the best kid's show before school started! And yes, I was born in 1957 :)

  • More great childhood memories when life was simpler...

  • Oh my goodness! By about the third note it all came back to me and transported back 50 years just like that! I haven't heard that theme song since I was a kid watching Captain Kangaroo without fail every morning!! Bless you for uploading this to youtube. You just gave my weary mind and body a jolt of yesteryear and it was wonderful!! What a marvelous piece of music!!

  • @Hypsan I was thinking much the same thing. I remembered this song after 50 years. I am going to play it every morning for the next few days.....it'll start my day just like it used to.

  • @maryquant1967 Yay!

  • @Hypsan

    Well said...well said.

  • This is the first show I remember watching when I was very little. Mr. Moose, Mr. Greenjeans, and the Captain

  • I hope I get to meet these 2 guys on "the other side". Such a huge part of our childhoods (for those of us born in the 50s).

  • Yes-weren't the keys changled as part of the music at some point?

  • This music brings back so many happy childhood memories. I watched the Captain and Mr. Greenjeans every morning.

  • Over here in England we recognize this tune as the theme from a radio programme called Family Favourites which used to be on the BBC Light Programme.

The only memory I have of Captain Kangaroo was hearing his name in a Monkees song.

  • Remember how the music would play until he hung the keys on the desk ?

  • My very favorite show when I was a kid. I used to watch it every morning before kindergarten. Happy memories. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Brings back childhood memorys. Thanks for posting.

  • 1950's style music. Edward White had the same style as Leroy Anderson.
