  • i saw them in new haven connecticutt. they did thickas a brick, wow live! , then they did minstre in the gallery, there three negro woman in a balcony, up above the stage , wearing orange wigs, playing voilins, awesome show, and ian was on one foot playing his ass of on flute.

  • Boy, those Germans always love Tull.

  • Ian's voice is top notch here, this is how powerful they were......and jeffrey was an artist/friend, thrown into the mix on Auqualung, after letting Cornick go. Imagine YOU getting pulled into play bass for the next world supergroup, just as Aqualung, Thick as A Brick and Passion Play were being conceived!

  • das ist der vanker und der sheiderfund gesacht abend meine verstehen zie gundt der himmel ist blauen.........

  • NEW PROGRESSIVE ROCK BAND TYPE ''INNERSPACEBAND'' ON FACEBOOK. THANK YOU

  • 15 PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT REAL MUSIC.

  • I have seen JT 4 times and have been a fan since 1969. Saw him at the dodge theater in Phoneix in 2008. What a show Ian and Martin rock!!!

  • Cool !

Wer war die Schwuchtel am Anfang ?

  • @Gurkengraeber11

    Er is ein schweizer Jazzer.

Das sind hochqualifizierte Musiker, die keine bleibende Melodie erfinden können.

    (This is slightly übertrieben.)

  • Yes, shakespeare-like- no glitter-rock. Whats the matter with this idiot ? Ian - he´s so great and a wonderful musician- no glitter.!

  • @loni50otter Yes, but as usual

germans (krauts, I mean) must always told the other they know better...

let them play oktoberfest prost prost bier and sausaces!!

  • If it was up to record label execs, every song that Tull did would sound like Aqualung or Bungle but thankfully Tull have always kept their artistic integrity intact, always experimenting with different styles. I've been lucky enough to see them a few times and can understand why they have an almost cult like following, Ian Anderson has always been the consumate showman. They have such an amazing library of songs but never once used a "cookie cutter" approach to making them.

  • Der Ansager ist super! SOOOO böse waren wir damals? ;-)

  • i thought ian bought a country estate on a scotish ireland where he started off a fish farm for salmon in the 80s ? thought he won business man of the year for it as well . he is one cool mad englishman , as every englishman should be !

  • Ian Anderson was one of the most underated frontmen of all time. His charisma is absolutlly amazing coupled his his musical abillity, just mind boggeling!

  • Love the way they chopped this one up. NOT!!

  • The bass player is off the hook ! I saw Tull perform live @ the Sprinfield Civic Center in Massachusetts back in the 70's. The bass player came on stage dressed as a zebra and shit out golf balls onto the stage. It was a pretty wild thing to do back in the day. This band is like no other. I've always liked them. Ian Anderson likes trail ridding too. I read an artical he wrote about his experiences ridding. He's got some good stories. Funny as hell.

  • I will always love him!!

  • (don't mention the war)

  • One of the best from Ian Anderson! And He is the best!

    Zdravko Kuzev - Bulgaria

  • The guy doing the German introduction looks like he's standing where a baked potato should be.

  • I was born in 1978....and I'm thankful every day that my dad introduced me to Tull as a kid. They don't make them like Ian Anderson any more.

  • Jethro Tull, The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2DVD set available at Tommygun Video - check our channel for link and more details

i seen tull once and long to see them at least one more time.

please book him in the north eastern iowa location. pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Hey there's a Kraut speaking before the song starts.

  • Severely overlooked. Monstrously talented. Tighter than any rubber band, sometimes taking you through all emotions in seconds! Precision storytelling.

  • One of my favorites. Barriemore waxes the drums so well here.

  • Hoodliclums for sure. ; D

  • That's the Art I'm Thankful For. Thank You, GreenMan. Thanks, and Thanks Again

  • JT as always nows.T

  • Remember this time of Tull well .... OMG .. Ian sure had it goin on ! the costume era was so cool !! what a flashback .. thanks

  • This is not Glitter Rock, you dumb douchebag!

  • Ian's costumes. Some have got to be on display. Hard Rocks ?

  • Ian.. yes! .. except for the Bowie quote.. doesn't matter today. Both of you are Excellent.

  • I saw Jethro Tull during the heady days of the seventies when they and Ian Anderson, especially, were at their peak and quite superb. I Saw Tull the other week in Glasgow when, sadly, Ian Anderson was well past his peak and less superb.

Thanks for the music and memories and Ian.

  • Amazing Band :)

  • and what a show he always puts on, great to see them live, trully a unique band

  • How like William Shakespeare he looks

  • Der am Anfang zieht falsche Luft, unglaublich. Was der für eine Scheiße erzählt!!!!

  • Jethro Tull was way before glitter rock. The idiot knows nothing.

  • lol hat der noch alle latten am zaun ... glitter rock ja klar ... depp

  • Glitter Rock?!? Idiot.

  • glitter rock my balls you sourkraut !

  • ROCK rock.

  • jethro tull é uma coisa dificil de se intender... simplesmente gênios

  • Vc falou tudo...seu comentario resume tudo, parabens.

  • at 3:30 look in the backround to see the female string woman.... UW2

  • @underwwraps2

Female string woman where? I just can see mr. Evan in the background

  • @vinnypimentel

Look at when jeffery is jumping back at RIGHT before it show the Ian interview clip, at about 3:34 Exactly and you will see the string woman who were on tour with Tull that year. UW2

  • saw them at LA coliseum in"Tullavision". what a show!

  • I saw him last year he was electric, literally. He shared the bill with Dan Crisp. Amazing lineup! Like passing the baton of rock or something.

    5*

  • Well I'm off to see Tull at the Glasgow Pavilion on 30th March, can't wait!

  • Have an epic time bro! I'm jealous. They won't be to the NW this coming tour :( Get some vids if you can! :D

  • nice line up Evans, Anderson Hammond, Barre , Barlow..nice

  • The drumming in this song is fantastic.

    One of my JT Favorites.

  • Mentally retarded people like you shouldn't be allowed in youtube. Beethoven was probably malaisian according to you, Mozart from Australia, and Brahms must be a lost personage from the old testament. You poor idiot

  • see there a lot of stuff going on in tulls music, a little glam ,folk, heavy metal, rock and roll, blues, celtic, in the end its all really interesting combination and kicks major ass

  • yeah, in the end its fucking amazing genius orgasmic music

  • call it what you want. I call it Rock-n-Roll. Long live Tull!

  • glitter rock?? Jethro Tull?? no fuckin way! Jethro Tull is far above that Glitter crap!

  • Glitter Rock is just fine.

  • Lengse17............isnt Gary Glitter the lord of Glitter Rock? i have not once heard even one song by his Glitter band!

  • the guy at the beginning sucks. jethro tull is no glitter rock.

  • @91Lizardking

Well, even risking to be a German Mr.-Know-It-All, in my opinion the presenter before was a montage-as-a-provocation. As Tull has got absolutely NOTHING to do with glitter-rock. Considering this the provo gets even slightly funny. And as we can see, the humor-free mediocrazy at once jumps up like a pop-up, yeah, mista spider63 ???

  • Tulls true fans allow Ian to do what he damn well pleases. He's doing what he does now for himself AND his true fans.Been aboard since'71Bos Gardn

  • last comment was cool, haha. jethro truly kicks ass...

  • I feel ripped off somehow...

  • Clive Davis destroyed my career, long story but he refused to release our main songwriter/guitarist from his Arista deal and refused to record him, a virtual blacklist which is supposed to be illegal. Label instrest of which there was a lot, disapeared. Thanks Clive, prick.

  • I don't agree with the comment from the guy

I think Jethro TUll is one of the best bands of the world!

  • I have no idea what the below comments mean; I saw Tull at the Garden, I love Ian's music, what the F are you all talking about. Just enjoy it for chrissake. Just a New Yorker here saying what it is.

  • okay, fine, blah, blah, blah

that song may have the best lyrics ever. Oh, and by the way, he's full of shit. "Big business" didn't make him all eccentric and wild-eyed to please anybody. That is his thing. He wasn't forced to develop that persona. He loves that shit and so do I.

  • .......................

  • 2:39-3:22 is so relevant to todays standards of quality.

I will say what most believe, and that is fuk TV and their agenda, and fuk radio and their agenda,

and fuk the restriction of knowledge cause its already too late

Fear only exists for those that believe in it

  • well said due, well said

    i tottaly agree with ya.

why the agenda today is so stupid?!

  • What a musical talent, they had the proverbial trifecta

    Creativity

    efficiency

    and them abstract eyebrow expressions

  • I agree with you guys about Tull being underrated. But you kinda have to have a musical ear to comprehend their interwoven compositions. They werent making music for the masses they created a genre all their own.

  • Great Song .. Shame that the suit had not got a Clue !! I have been with Tull since I was 17 ... I'm now 55 (love all kinds off music) But talent and quality stands out!! :)

  • the dude at the start looks like he's going thru his minstrel cycle , but's this is a good post think i'll keep it for latter on ...

  • jeffrey hammond on bass, an awesome era of tull!!

  • Most underrated band in rock history! If musicality, talent and innovation meant anything these guys should have been on top of the heap for 40 years now. The same can be said of Frank Zappa...

  • you make a fine point. for me, rush needs to be in the conversation as well.

  • Can anyone cut that dumbass at the beginning away - dissing Jethro Tull is a crime..!

  • WOOOOOOOOO That striped outfit is LOUD!!!

  • It makes me mad that you don't hear this played on the "classic rock" stations as much as they play REO. They ought to be playing this one just as much. It is an amazing rock song, with a great message. Ian looks so cool at 1:39, flipping the flute around. ......I still can't believe that after all the great stuff that has happened with music, that here we are at the turn of the century, and today's stuff just doesn't hold up. Not like this. The Tull was fantastic.

  • i say the same thing

  • guess i have to look else where, we missed a cool flute part with the commentators

  • one of the best frontmen in rock history, Ian Anderson, nuff said

  • @CaffieneMan Correction the best frontman in history

  • Ian Anderson was always very different from the rest of the rock world because he stayed close to the average people ,he never went crazy with too many women and flashy material things and I guess he never got into bad drugs because he seemed very modest and intellegent and seems to be on the country side of life

  • @greeneyefull one of the most unique and innovative front men in rock history, plus he played the hell out of the flute, saw him in 73 in chicago, and again almost 30 years later and he still rocked!!!

  • @greeneyefull Thats why I admire him so much

  • ich bein berlin

  • shame the audio isnt live.....

  • i hate lip syncing videos.

  • these naughty people cut the song at 0.39

  • you mean 0:29? lol

  • ian kind of looks like lt. dan twords the end of forest gump when he is an alcoholic

  • Es que ese era el efecto que el quería dar. Mostrarse como un hombre del siglo XVI/XVII.

Absolutamente fantástico. Comparen esta música con lo que se oye hoy en día...

  • Ian Anderson looks like William Shakespeare in this vid.

  • Tin foil back-drop...nice

  • ian doesn't really give himself much credit huh? lol

  • The ego has landed, love the music, but what a pretentious git. Imagine him for your old man, Hey Da, do you fancy a pint? Sorry son, but I have got to remaster my remasters, which I have only just recovered from my salmon farm, where incidentally, I was awarded business man of the year. You will never live up to me! Aside, Aye, but you will be dead shortly, and I am going to spend the lot, and bye every Hocus Pocus album I can find.:D

  • George Gruntz, the host of this show, is a swiss jazz musician and, like most jazz musicians, very elitist about music in general. He really didn't know what he was talking about, since he had obviously never made an effort to even listen to Jethro Tull before he condemned them. "Glam rock", my ass!

...and your wise men don't know how it feels

to be thick as a brick...

  • Nicely put!

  • the audio is recorded lol

  • Saw this tour, in Houston, not Germany, still haven't gotten over the excitement of it all. This was back in the day when Rock and Roll shows were great. Ah, to be 19 again.

  • Lt. Dan...hmm, only if Ian can play his flute in the wheelchair! LOL

  • Clive Davis is one of the biggest twats of the music industry. All I've seen him ever do is force people to sell out. And look at him here, looking like a greasy used car salesman. What a cunt.

  • Yes he does look like Lt. Dan!!!! I think that Ian Anderson should play Lt. Dan's brother in the sequel. I really hope to see a Forest Gump sequel in my lifetime. With Ian Anderson. That, and also world peace.

  • "Und now ist der time on Sprockets ven vee dance..!!!"

Sheesh... just shaddap and let the band play already.

    Great tune, btw.

  • go climb in a schizer hole

  • the german twat talked all through it

  • The guy talking in German is a Swiss Jazz band leader/piano player on German TV.

Nevertheless, what he tells is rubbish, because he is talking about Glitter rock (and Jethro Tull weren't anything like that). He condemns as it as nothing really new.

I think he doesn't really like rock music.

This German (Bavarian) TV station was well known for its ultra-conservative, anti-modern postions, especially in the 70s. Even in the 80s, wearing long hair in the rural areas, you felt like an alien.

  • german faggot!! !

  • The coolest band & singer of all time. He looked a bit like Gary Sinise (in "Forrest Gump) in the '70s actually!

  • Wow!! Yes. Exactly, Lt. Dan! Magic legs!!

  • why has this clip been fcuked up? spliced in unlikely places, jumping from one verse to another, apparently seamlessly unless you KNOW the song. Something to do with the reason why it didn't appear in full on their 25 years celebration DVD?

  • Lol! The aluminum foil behind the German guy..

    5 stars

  • Hey Everyone,

Want to own other Jethro Tull shows from the 70s such as Tanglewood 1970, Tampa 1976, Hippodrome 1977 and more rare footage? Then you'll want "The Minstrel Looks Back, 1969-1979" 2-DVD set. Send me a msg for more info and click on my account name for clips

  • This is the album version, not live. Still good though

  • Glitter Rock? How ridiculous..

  • No kidding. Not exactly Bowie or The New York Dolls. I guess someone had a wreckless urge to categorize first and start thinking a few hours later.

  • I saw Tull in 79 and 82. Wonderful. Glitter Rock??? Not even close. You have to see these guys to truly understand the genius

  • I saw Jethro Tull in Little Rock, Arkansas around 1990. I admired his class, I never heard a dirty word come from his mouth. He was clever and witty and I enjoyed the performance immensely.

  • Now is the time when we dance on Sprokets!

    (Love the tinfoil background)

  • ...Glitter rock?......now that's funny.......

  • ian anderson is a god

  • Damn Kraut talking bullshit...glitter , glam rock my fuckin arse....dum fool

  • He is not a kraut, he is either austrian or from switzerland

  • High melody quality!

  • Tull charges more than the price of a good hamburger to see one of their shows these days and I can share that it's worth every penny!

  • The music is great, and there's much less cholesterol!!

  • If you like jethro tull plz come to my page and join the only JT fan group on youtube. go to my page click groups on the top of the page and join the JT fan group

  • One of there best song ever

  • kick ass.

  • ew.

  • one of the best english bands in my opinion

  • the tull is the best

  • Oh...My...God...

    A ZEBRA PLAYING BASS!

Jethro tull is the most original band. Period.

  • Hahahahahahhahah! what a ludicrous comment!!I dunno for how long I'm laughing!!!ahhahahahha!!the clopping bassist, geee! They're strange guys, very strange! mad men to the bone and to the soul!hahahah

  • Jeffery Hammond was the zebra bass player in Tull from 1971 to 1975. Great stuff!

  • das ist gut....lol snort coke and hear tull

  • nice hard rock on this one

  • Yeah...right off the album.

  • The bassist's matching suit and guitar are two of the most awesome things I've ever seen in rock.

  • Imma haveta agree with you there! :)

  • was redet denn der kerl am anfang für nen schas daher, alter!

  • yeah!!

    Jethro Tull rocks!!

  • That was frustrating! The little clip of them in the last seconds of the song is the only portion where we get to hear the live performance. All of the rest is dubbed with the album recording. That's not them playing live until the very last clip. I can't believe no one else commented on this.

  • bloody great stuff 70s rock rules, faggots rascism, paedos, bloody hell just listen to the music people chill, enjoy leave polotics uot of music

  • by the way: Ian looks exactly like Snoop Dogg in this one!

  • geoffwode1you got no idea you aresome kind of c**t you prick!

  • you are a FAGGOT ¿OK?

  • there's any particular look for paedos???

  • Oh you titilated man of action, you.

  • Haha, Jeffrey Hammond Hammond on bass is so funny, what an actor. Tull rock!

  • Crop rotation rules!

  • Very clever

  • Is that Toni Iommi on lead guitar? When was this video done?

  • martin Barre!!!! Iommi left Tull 1970 and this is 1975

  • Can't mistake the two. Different styles and one had more hair.

  • Did not Iommi only audition? As far as I know there are no known Tull recordings with Tony Iommi

  • Tony Iommni's only appearance with Jethro Tull was on the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus in Dec 1968 he was replaced that month by Martin Barre. However, it was a temporary arrangement just for the show. As we all know he went on to form Black Sabbath. In interviews he credited Tull for the organisation and early morning rehersals to get things right which he continued with Sabbath. Hope that helps. Cheers!!

  • in english please

  • what does stripe juggle with?

  • Zebra Crap!!! I miss Jeffery

  • Not as much as Glenn and Glasscock. Ian had to teach Jeffrey every chord.

  • what does stripe juggle with?

  • oh my god, Ian STOP ROCKING SO HARD

  • Barrimore Barlow is UH-MA-ZING!! One sick drummer. GREAT solos!
