This song... is just so beautiful and by far my favorite song by the National. It just sounds so stoic and beautiful but bittersweet at the same time. You can tell by the live version how close this song is to Matt Berninger.
How beautiful...this was uploaded on my 20th b-day! That day I was no longer a teenager. Jolly good, this is bar none & top notch music! Yoku dekimashita, The National!
@quinn959 its all fantastic music, but the most common opinion is that their music has just gotten better as they continue making it. However, there are a couple of fantastic songs on alligator, such as "looking for astronauts". Also, "exile vilify", which is a separate single made for portal 2, is definitely my favourite song.
Love the national - great, complexly minimalistic music
Going on a lads Europe trip soon, the national will be playing in Ljubljana when I'm a day away in Zagreb - was considering missing ol'Croatia to see the national - decided against it after this. They're great - don't get me wrong, but they don't put on as much a a show as say, MuteMath or Muse...
man i seen these guys open up for the arcade fire, and i must say it was mother fucking aweeesommmeee. They are amazing and man can he scream into a mike with a beastly howl....sad to say this was one song they didnt play though!
@lostaddict12 I saw them a few days ago and they opened with this song. just so amazing... you just get lost in it like its never going to end, but then at the same time youre so aware that it has to. i love the national........ theyre so cute on stage too.
I saw them in Houston at the House of Blues and I was enthralled. This is my favorite song of theirs. Soulful.
I actually met Matt out on the street after the concert while I was waiting for my car. He was out there taking pictures with fans and signing autographs. He signed my poster for me.
Just bought this album. I can't stop listening to it. :-) It's so refreshing to be able to appreciate music like this when there's so much generic rubbish in the charts.
Absolutely Beautiful this has too be the most commanding music around , honest moving soulful, saw them in Brighton two weeks ago ffs it made me young again xx
@Graiskye and @vrifts you are idiots. Why would you even waste your time coming to a youtube channel dedicated to a live show performance from this band if you don't like them? There is a reason this band is selling out show after show and hitting way up on the billboard charts, and it isn't because they are boring. Leave your ignorant comments else where or on a Nickelback youtube channel where thoughts like yours make sense.

how the fuck do people keep from falling asleep in a concert like this ? I dont get this type of music, it is so energyless. It just seem like the whole band is missing something, like maybe several quarts of blood each. Im sorry boring as fuck.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@Graiskye i agree. i couldn't handle seeing these guys live or even listening to their album all the way through. just the idea of being stuck or forced to listen to this kind of music for a long period of time makes me restless but i have those moments where this is the perfect type of music. relaxing, careless, free, sorrowful. i just have to mix it up after a while or i'll start to feel like i'm dying. lethargic, emo, and a bit suicidal haha. this stuff gets boring without a change of pace
@vrifts how is this boring? This is a man pouring his heart out to a crowd of people like you, who don't even appreciate it. The only thing sad and "suicidal" is the fact that people are too shallow to even grasp what this music is. It's pure and beautiful and no it's not the latest "hollywood popstar" but it's true to Matt and it's true to me.
I've been a fan of this band since Alligator, and this was the first time I'd seen them live. When the show started, I couldn't get over how staged the whole TV production made them feel. The "unremarkable lives of adults" seemed to have come full circle.
Then Matt came into the crowd and it felt like I was in some mega church full of devotees.... the god damn sea parted and they tore the place down.
This band's special, and it'll be fun watching them grow from here.
Ahhhh, his voice...so...beautiful...but I dig deeper vocals. *dreamy smile*

vAbsolution 1 year ago 49
@vAbsolution Well, A bit.. I like the vocals abit less, But thats because they dont use vocal effects on stage.
Which gives them a better sound also..
darthkay 1 year ago
@vAbsolution The thing about smaller bands are that studio is worse than live. Raw talent is so much better when raw than when refined.

Good Toddy. Go listen to Timberlake or other immature lyrics and stay away from anything meaningful and thoughtful.
You bore me.
