I think i went to Dublin from Waterford on one of the very last trains Hauled by one of these Beautys and i didnt even notice that it was. Regards Mark
I wouldnt class myself as a train man specifically but I do love machines and these are amazing machines. I always remember being in Heuston station on occasion hearing that whine from the turbos. Its a great sound. What year were these engines brought into service? What is the engine capacity and horsepower?
Nice pictures. I loved these locos when I was a student in Belfast between 1990 and 1993. Highlight of my bashing/enthusiast career has to have been going in the cab of one of the NIR versions of these from Belfast to Dublin and back in 1986. Awesom!
does the picture of 074 at 45 seconds look line the loco is a window short ? as you look at them the window on the left seems to be missing . must be cold for the driver ! no criticism intended of the photographer .
just got a backflash was in the cab 071 class 1995 cork to cobh never to be forgotten

@Live1052 they were build in in 1976. 2,250hp. havnt got a clue about the engie capacity

@Live1052 EMD 12-645, twelve cylinders at 645 cubic inches each giving a total of 7740 cubic inches or just over 126 liters.

So was I, back in April 1979. Rode all the wasy from Westport to Athlone, about 80 miles. My Uncle was a driver! Lucky me!
