Pat is the real expert for fabric softener guitar sound.

Allan Holdsworth says that 90% of a guitar sound is made by the musician's hands. In Metheney's case it is 90 % synthesiser . ridiculous style. i prefer finger work and intelligent chord changes that have a counterpoint relationship.

@florafox actually pat metheny uses barely one or two efects for his guitar, and rarely changes them throughout the song, so his style doesn't rely purely on efects, what characterizes his music is a wide variety of styles, a not that simple but not overly complicated chord progression, and an elaborated and sometimes virtuosic improvisation. You can say the sound of a particular instrument his band uses is somewhat softened, but not extrapolate that to his whole style.

For those who don't like this song, I understand why. For TRUE Pat Metheny fans, you got very accustomed to hearing Mark Ledford and David Blamires singing behind Pat, or even Pedro Aznar. But Cuong Vu and Richard Bona? Huge mistake. We saw this ensemble live and you could tell Pat wasn't too pleased with his vocals during a few of those songs....one reason I think Richard isn't with him now. As talented as he is on bass, I think Pat needed more power from his vocals. Not there.

Pat Metheny is the most amazing musician to ever live, not to mention the best guitarist to ever grace the human race with his/her presence. I think he knows about 1 guitar lick and just keeps repeating it over and over again like so many other jazz guitarists. Holdworth, whoever, they just keep doing the same runs over and over in each song and since it's 2 steps more advanced in "theory" it seems more elusive than some jerk like Kenny G but it's not really that much different than any other scam. He does his little over reverberated sound scape on each album until he dies i guess. BORING. I'll give him some lessons if he begs me.
