There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc. Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of 1 percent of the landmass.

I would rather call him drunk for your sake than sober. Can you tell us how many Arabs and how many Israelis have been killed in Hebron since 1967? Use any source you wish. Most of the facts and figures used by Peace Now in their latest report happen to be from the Israeli Civil Administration Office. Perhaps you should read it and then speak of it; as you may inadvertently speak ill of those whom you speak on behalf of.

I condemn those who oppressed the Jews in history categorically, but the suffering of Jews in history does not mean they enjoy special exemptions in modernity. They like all others should be judged by the same standards; the truth is Palestinians are oppressed today at the hands of those who claim to be 'Jews'.

I am not implying authenticity of the works of Dr. Toaff, I am talking about the response of people of your likes to such reports. I am sure you read the news reports on Haaretz and JPost right after he published his works; they didn't talk about the veracity of his sources but rather tried to justify those acts by the disproportianate suffering of Jews at the time.

Im sorry, I did not realize that these british were trying to get a rise out of some jewish kids on the sabath. i saw no evidence of this, however if this is the case, then i agree that they do have the right to be angry. Oh, and BTW, a good rule of thumb is to presume that someone who shouts and curses is per definition wrong and cannot be dealt with rationally. Again, that goes for both sides. As long as neither side steps down from their moral and religious high ground they do not deserve a solution to this conflict IMHO. They only deserve to be ridiculed.

The Greeks did not name it Palestina. They preceded the Romans... You seem to have a habit of critiquing other people's comments rather than responding to them. Your reading seems to be quite shallow then. Herodotus is known to have referred to the land as either Palaistine or Palaesitina Syria; Jewish academics after fiercely falsifying these have recently begun to argue that the name Palaestine or Palaestine Syria was in reference to the Land of Israel.

Herodotus was referring to the actual Pelishtim, which, as I previously explained, was the source the Romans drew upon when they renamed the land. Note, the Romans recorded their conquest of Judea, not Palestine. Josephus did not call the land Palestine. The New Testament refers to Jesus as a Jew from Judea, not a Palestinian from Palestine. In other words, the land we know today as Israel became "Palestine" only after Romans named it so, following the failed Bar Kochba revolt.

But in the case of "Palestine," the origin of its name is significant, because the "Palestinians" were invented specifically with the intent to create some fictional tie between them and "Palestine." As for your last question, I'm afraid I don't understand. What's to reconcile?

You clearly did not read what I said. I didn't mention the Philistines or Filastin. I simply pointed out the origin of the name "Palestine". The Romans conquered the land and changed it's name. Just like when Islam conquered Persia, the land of the Zoroastrians, and changed the name to Iran. Also, the native population was forced to convert to Islam, but many Zoroastrians fled to India and today, are known as Parsis. There is NO tolerance of other races and/or religions by some Muslims!

I read very well what you wrote, and what you were clearly trying to do was to alter the historical context to suit your narrative. Names that bear resemblance to the modern day Palestine for that land were given to it even by the Greeks let alone the Romans. On fundamentalism in religion, I think this is a problem that all religions face and I do not need to remind you of works by Jewish writers like Israel Shahak and others. The greatest victims of Muslim extremists have been Muslims.

Pardon me for interjecting, mingoi313, but you're fantasizing. The word "Palestine" has nothing to do with the Greeks. Following the Bar Kochba revolt (165 BCE), which wiped out three Romans legions, The Emperor (I believe it was Hadrian) took steps to ensure it would never happen again, and also to discourage uprisings elsewhere in the empire. He exiled the Jews from Judea, and renamed it "Palestina" in an unsuccessful attempt to wipe out the memory of a Jewish State. (cont.)

There idea of an Arab people called "Palestinians." was concocted in 1964, with the PLO Charter, and came into fruition in 1967, AFTER Israel reclaimed its ancient cities, which you have now renamed "The West Bank." I'm a Jew and I don't agree with what he said. The Jews did not kill Yeshua, we warned him about the Romans. Which, by the way, is where the name Palestine really comes from. The Romans conquered the Land from the Jews 2000 years ago and re-named it Palestine (which means Holy Land). It has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, Muslims, or Arabs.
