my battery is healthy, my generator got new brushs, still barely charges, 12.56 engine at idle, 12.81 with lights on...is not enough...I have plenty of gap on the regulator points...not exactly sure if too much.. maybe.. great tutorials thank you..
2011 scooter. Battery not charging so i check the system.
The reg/rec is working and sending 13.4 to 14.5 dc volt from its side of the plug. Now here is the problem: The battery side of the plug should be reading the battery (hot at all times) 12.5 to 12.8 but the wire in the plug from the battery side is dead volt meter shows 0. So I know if the battery volts are not coming from the battery then the charging volts cant be getting to the battery from the other end. Help!
Can you help me please I have a 440 kohler motor it has stator cdi ignition and I have to wire a 79 ford altenator to it ok my problem is how does it wire into the ford regulator REG . has [ I A S F ] 79 FD reg I have 3 wires off motor black for kill switch & green yellow thats main power & white thats ground the altenator is for lights and fan Batt charge & winch do you have any Ideas ,I think we`re channel friends already
If tested alt & alt is good, but still not charging, vr or wires that go to it are suspect. vr sends power out to field terminal that goes to alt & that's how alt comes to life. For test purps, w/wire still in place on vr, u get a jumper link connectd to a known pwr srce. Wiggle that in til mks contct w/field terminal. Now we're sending full field current to the alt.
When we do the vr's job, if the alt comes to life, the vr is probably our problem. However, w/the wires in place, if we put full current right here where that wire is that goes to the field in the alt and still doesnt come to life, chances are strong that the problem is in wiring between here and the alt.
Save buying a new generator and DO NOT connect the field terminal to power to full field test!
With engine running,MOMENTARILY connect field to GROUND and you should get max. output at armature terminal.

i guess if the vr is internal...u have to just replace the alternator???

alt=generator (alternator)
vr=voltage regulator

When you say "Known good power source" what would be the best thing to use there?
I have a positive ground car, would it be ok to bring a line from the negative post to the field line?
