every time I plug my USB cable into my PC or MAC I never have that USB Mass Storage icon or option anywhere on my phone. What could be the issue?

I have tried multiple machines, PC and MAC, all the USB does it charge, I do not have the usb icon on my notification bar at all.

@florinree Did you do the part where you open the keyboard in the homescreen and press "enter" "enter" type "telnetd" then press "enter"?

You have to do that part before going into the telnet app.

you get to get custom dev roms and stuff that you wouldn't get with a G1 out of the box. For example, the HTC Hero rom where you can put it on your G1. Search up G1 HTC hero rom to see it =D

I had that problem, did you wipe your data and cache before installing your new build over your ADP build? If you didn't, that's why.

If you're not technically inclined and have not rooted or done things like this before, you definitely shouldn't of done it alone. It was pretty simple imo to root the phone, I got a guide, I read the instructions, I did the instructions, and it worked.

You can revert back if you root your phone, but it's really hard and there's really no point. If you want the apps from comp, you'll have to google around, you just gotta connect your g1 to computer, have root access, and an app that can open folders and unzip and install. Why root? You can edit and mess around with your phone to make it fully customizable, look around for custom made OS for the phone and see what they can do.

I think there's some missing steps. I followed both your guide and a guide from The Unlockr...neither allowed me root access.

after you restart your phone BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD TELNET on the HOME SCREEN press enter twice and type "TELNETD" and press enter...Now when you download telnet the program will work

I need help. i tried like 6 different video's, blogs, forums, and emails, but it dont work for me. every time i do the bootloader screen it comes to the rainbow screen and very quick gray screen pops up for about 2 seconds to say: NO IMAGE FILE. well anyone know how to fix that. i have the right files. the dream file, recovery image, and the hardspl. i downloaded multiple dream files hoping the file was just defective but maybe its my phone. please i need help. i want a rooted G1.

Hey , same thing was happening to me ! Make sure you download the DREAIMG-RC29.zip file, NOT the RC-7 file. Then UN-ZIP it, and copy the DREAIMG.nbh file to the ROOT folder (Initial screen you see when you clock on the Memory card) on your memory card. That's what my problem was. . .hope it helps

Yep in uk would be rc7. not rc29. u can follow this same steps in this video just google the RC7 Rom. or it might be in the droidproof site.

you can do some stuff like.. turn your phone into a wireless router set the processor speed of the phone faster or slower to save battery.. upgrade the roms to the g3 ( htc hero ) just a few things.. ive done it and i am not going back muhahaha

Close the program, and return periodically. It will eventually connect. When I have tried it 5 times. 3 of those times it took 15-20 minutes before it would connect. Just have patience.

I went formatted to fat32, got back to rc29, and dowloaded the two files from the site to get root access....when I drag the two files onto my sd card, the computer dosn't respond...dosn't load or anything...whats that about? any help would be great....thankx

Try rebooting your pc, then remount your g1 and then drag and drop. if this still has issues try loading your MicroSD card in a card reader and try to put the files on it that way.
