when i watched this movie for my first time.when it was over my mom told me william murdoch was my great great grandfather. when she told me i was surprised. what was passed on in my family they said he was crushed by one of the funnels. no joke. may my great great grandfather r.i.p 1873-1912
Officer Murdoch didn't break under physical and psychological stress and strain during the nightmare from hell that night (well until in the movie) his back was up against the railing from men, women and their scared children. When he pulled his gun out I was sadly surprised. Out of all the other officers he was the most professional, he sweat a gallon a min' but he kept everything under control till he unintentionally shot two men. He only wanted to save. Sad how they decided to kill himself.
I love when that other officer shouts; "No Will" right before he shoots himself, kinda like "we still need you" always struck me as sad cause he saw what murdoch was about to do and wanted to stop him.
Officer murdoch was responsible for saving one third of the survivors, he loaded all the boats to their absolute limits, and made sure that if there were no women and children left, he let the men on too. He even tried to load one of the collapsibles by himself when the water flooded on to the boat deck, he swung in the davit to load it, but didn't have enough time and barley escaped drowning! To this day that davit is still in the position he left it ( R.I.P William Murdoch )
Not many people like him exist today! Salute to First Officer Wylde too!
He's a forgotten hero...
