The Sama Veda Chanting in this video is perfect. The rules that governs the Sama Veda chanting is very different from the common Rig/Yajur Mantras we are all familiar with. The pandits in this video, I believe, are chanting according to the Kauthama School of Sama Veda. It is absolutely divine. Before you resort to uneducated comments, remember that Krishna Himself says in the Geeta "vedanam sama-vedo 'smi" (Of all the Vedas, I am Sama Veda)..
I think many here have a great misconseption about my personal respect for trained brahmins.
the entire argument is about the ideal chant and in this performence they can not capture with melodious beauty the attention of the gods who are impatent to hear the vedas chanted out loud in the human world.
The ideal chant is about perfect intonation, perfect rythem, perfect melody, and magnificent voices ,which results in tremendous mesmerization and beauty who draws all.
:)) Maybe the Western people can "sing" it better :)) but for the time being it's Indian culture and who is able to say this is good and that is bad .. Those pandits are far beyond you silly boy! :)))
Divine!! bt y do these Pandits sing wid there noses!!!! This is wrong according to the Vedic Sanskrta phonetics... And ! Sanskrta if spoken in the correct manner isn't so low class as the Pandits of today make it sound. IT'S A SERIOUS MATTER !!!
the first recitation of gayatri is the standard one. The second one is unique to samaveda. Please do ur homework before labelling trained scholars as ridiculous.
This version is 100% authentic, but sounds weird only because they are singing it in the tradition of Sama Veda , which is rare when you compare it to the regular ones you are used to, which are Yajur Vedic
The mantra is recited as such because the Sama Ved must be recited a certain way.
This same recitation will clear your soul of impurity. That's why you just felt chills go down your back. (if you did).
Sama Ved is only active if sung the correct way. The peaceful way of reciting the Mantra is fine too, but Ex:
If you are listening to a deep heartfelt song in your car, do you want to lower the volume or raise it up? You won't understand it if it's low, similarly you won't feel it
OMG! May god bless u with a clearer brain. This is the samveda chanting of gayatri. The pitch and intonation are very different from the normal ways of reciting. Please look at the title of the video before making such comments.
im doing a music project on Indian music and i learned the Sama Veda was one of the oldest preserved forms of indian music. For my presentation we have to play significant songs so does anyone know if this is the traditional Sama Veda or if it would be a good song to use?
Just speaking from my own experience with Sacred Chants....Before shaktipat Initiation from my Guru I "heard" them via a dualistic mind and comprehended them from an intellectual perspective only. After sacred innitiation these same chants spoke to me from a Transcendent State and had a very different effect on me. BTW one who seesThe Guru as comming between them & God had incorrect understanding of The Guru. The Guru reveals that one's self, Guru and Chant are one and the same.
I am an Engineer by Profession,Brahmin & can chant SAMA VEDA.

I am getting sick of this. Vedas are not meant for publicity. NOT EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO HEAR IT. RESPECT VEDAS. RESPECT THE ORTHODOX TRADITION OF KEEPING VEDIC CHANTING SECRET AND INACCESSIBLE.
You Dont need the Vedas 2 understand its true meaning. The Puranas, Dharmasastras, Itihasas and Most Importantly Bhagavad Gita are there. You ridicule Vedavyasa's words which state that he composed Srimad Bhagavatam for the sake of women and Sudras who do not have right to get initiated and learn vedas. Point is: Yes, u can learn if u r initiated. But not everyone has the right to get initiated. REFORMS??? THE TRUE VEDIC FOLLOWER SHUNS ALL THESE!!!
Om Shanti, I hope you have a good day. The question now is not whether the Sri Veda should be disseminated, they've already been. You can buy a copy of Sri Veda online. So the issue is to now guide people in a proper and rightful understanding so that others do not misinterpret it. But I do agree that without proper guidance of a Guru, no one should read.
the point is: Do you have it in you? Yes, I do! The passion for Peace comes from within, and with all due respect, it doesn't need anyone in between God and I.
You may have a point here, but I think the knowledge was kept among only a chosen few people because the wrong pronunciations can cause Anartha!
Also, today I chant, I do business, I defend my land, and I clean everything in my house, so the distinction between Bhahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Kshudra has come down to ZERO. This is an intellectual take on this thread.
u choose equality because it suits you. Is it neceesarily a good thing? Did God come to you and whisper "I want all men to be equal" Why is distinction bad? Think and think out of the box. If u believe in God, then u shud believe in scriptures as well. I am practical too. I also chant, work and clean. But atleast I understand that today's situation is not in line with the scriptures. You however use religion to justify your way of life even if you have to misinterpret it.
I didn't choose equality, but I see it around. Why is someone whose family used to do a job of a barber, also is a software engineer? Can you explain that if equality doesn't exist? He/she could have been a barber, but they took strides and became who they are. God gave 'em the intellectual strength to be who they are.
I know people who are supposedly skhudras but have reached enlightenment. Explain that!
I am a Kshatriya, and I can chant - Shri Rudram, Pancha Suktam, GanapatiAtharvaShirsham, and more. You may already know this, but they are a part of Vedas. Again, I am not a Brahmin, but only a chosen few Brahmins can show the kind of devotional strength that I can. Not because they are Brahmins..he he, but because they put shradhha and parishram and so did I.
I am talking everything that is practical in approach, and you are talking in AIR.
unfortunately I dont think you will progress anywhere, a person who thinks he does not need guru will bring himself miserably down because that ego remains even as spiritual progress is made. for a person with high spiritual progress, the fall can be greater as, small people no matter what mistake they do impact is small, but big people can only make mistakes of great consequence. This ego will be bringing your downfall./If you have doubt consult the mahabharata which has a story just for u
Vedic chanting is for the benefit of all mankind. There is no prohibition on listening to vedic chants. It's however true that listening certain sections of vedic chanting is not for everybody. A learned Pandit never chants that section loudly but mutters it.
To prove my point - there is a vedaanga called kalpa. It talks about lokayagas (yagas done for the benefit of mankind, where all sects of people participate). These yagas are done as per srauta sutra, all mantras in srauta sutras have been taken from various veda shakhas. Every body is allowed hear the mantras, no restrictions at all.
It is not. I hope you know about the vedas and its prounciations before you comment on it. The sama veda is the most melodious of the vedas. Just repeating the mantras will not give any result. The vibrations produced by the correct prounciation affects the nadis in the body.
Please understand what the mantras signify and then comment on them.
you misunderstood my comment! the meaning is there , the correct pronunciation is there , and hopefuly also shakti is there , but the quality of the beauty of the voice of these performers - is awful - they are not capable in expreassing the great beauty and melody of The sama veda
I would have to agree with dikshamen. Please don't get me wrong. I appreciate your efforts in posting Samaveda chants, but I have listened to more beautiful Samaveda chants than this. Especially, the Sama gaana that is played in Tirupati is very melodious and divine.
If you can post more beautiful Samagaana, it will be very nice of you! I'm eagerly waiting.
BTW, it is prohibited to sing vedic mantras because setting it to any kind of music destroys the intonations. There are tons of gayatri, mahamrityunjai mantra audios set to music that are floating around. Most of them are wrong, not only in terms of mantra pronunciation but the swaram as well. Chanting them that way will not bring any benefit at all. BTW, no pandit worth his salt will ever chant the Gayatri mantra loudly for everybody to hear. It's prohibited by the guru who teaches the mantra.
In these days, hearing Vedha has become less. services like these are part of devotional service. Many will get beifit by this. Good use of internet.Let this service be continued.

Hmm.. what is the chhandas (meter) of this shloka? The Sama Veda must have a certain meter and even swara..
It sounds awful to the layman, but I don't think the priests are drunk in this video.. LOL.

SAMA VEDA is the basic ROOT for all kinds of Indian Music.
When Manthraa-s are sung with appropriate SWARAA-s as per the Sama-Veda traditions, it becomes SAMA-GAANAM.
You can ask your specific requirements related to Project topic

Many SOORYA MANTHRAA-s are available
If you are asking for Soorya Manthraa-s in Rig,Yajur, Sama-vedaas - it is available
If you asking SLOKAMS prasing SUN GOD , that is also available.
What is your interest and what is your application or use ?

Dear warmongers666,
I do not agree with you. Such a thinking has kept the Vedas inaccessible to a vast majority of Hindus and others.
As long as a person(men/women) is "initiated" by a qualified guru(Upanayanam) he/she has right to chant the Vedas.
This is high time to reform the regressive trend!!....

I chant Rudram without going via a guru. That is only because ordinary people necessarily need guru, and not to the devotees who are in tune with God.
I chant with almost perfect pronunciations and intonations and it is tested okay by someone who learned it froma guru.

warmongers666 3 years ago
First off, the "ignorance" comment was for dikshamen. If you are dikshamen then here is the explanation:
Vedic chanting for any shakha has got nothing to do with how good your voice is. It has to do with the grammar of swaras (Udatta, Anudatta etc).
Chanting has to be done with proper intonation, the pandits in this audio are chanting with the right intonation and that is all that matters.
r8rdarklord 3 years ago
BTW, it is prohibited to sing vedic mantras because setting it to any kind of music destroys the intonations. There are tons of gayatri, mahamrityunjai mantra audios set to music that are floating around. Most of them are wrong, not only in terms of mantra pronunciation but the swaram as well.
