  • I remember visiting my dad in Upstate N.Y. and he would listen to the tigers on WJR.

My Dad Loved the tigers so much I associated Earny Harwells Voice with my dad.

  • When I was a kid, I played baseball by myself in the backyard, and I commented my own imaginary games, imitated the great voices of Ernie and Paul, and then my father, JP McCarthy would call me in for dinner. The luck of the Irish, I guess. I was blessed to be around so much talent. Beckman, Ernie, Paul, and of course, my dad. And I still support that station 15 years later and I am proud to have my own little webcast show on wjr.com. Good stuff, thanks for posting.

  • WJR was the best when they had all the sports and the legendary JP McCarthy. The Tigers didn't even need a radio network when their flagship station spilled out 50,000 watts and you could and still can pick that signal up in 38 states and half of Canada.

  • Two things I like and remember about WJR was the clear-channel 50,000-watt signal and its one-note tone at the beginning of the hour. Last I heard, WJR was carrying Michigan State football and basketball, but nothing like what they had in the past in terms of sports coverage.

  • I forgot Frank Beckmann did the Lions as well as the Wolverines back then.

  • It was the best when Ernie and Paul did the Tiger Games on WJR , "The Great Voice of the Great Lakes." You can here the Tigers on WJR when you went up north.
