Wow! I have a picture of one of those in an encyclopedia! Not only am I surprised you could find one that still works but actually still exists. I have always been interested in how vacuums have evolved over time from the hand pumped design to when the electic motor was introduced and to now how we have gone into cyclonic technology. (I still don't think it should entirely replace bags)
the model 0 was actuly introduced by james muarry spangler because he had asmah and wanted to beat the everloving s*** out of his carpet sweeper.so he invented the model 0.henry boss hoover took over the company (electric suctoin sweepers inc.)in 1912.though don't fell bad,i thought it was willam hoover two before.the only reson i know that is because i did a report on the father of the elctric vacuum cleaner in the 4th grade.
As long as they don't ruin it. I'm sure a conservative company like them will do a good job, but all too often people feel the need to unnecessarily "update" things simply for the sense of progress, I just hope we don't end up with some plastic-fantastic Dysonesque monster.
Is the rattling noise at turn-on something that helps the motor start? I know some older electric motors used a spring starting mechanism or similar. It sounds like it is a low RPM motor.
The Model O is neat, but what is even more fascinating to me is the Model 3 sitting on the table to the right. First commercial machine, and the first with a sand-cast aluminum base. Same motor as the Model O, but the 32-blade fan engaged after the motor started, and took an additional 55-60 seconds to reach full speed.

Wow... that appliance is over a century old, and is still usable. You won't find anything built today that'll be running in a hundred years. How sad.

Wow, great to see a Model O run! Didn't expect it to be so noisy though, especially when compared with inter-war Hoovers
