at 0:40 to 0:45. The long side of the recktangle follows the red line instead of the green line. How can that be? btw I chosed "simple metric template". PLEASE HELP!:)
You can use either metric or standard measurement templates, so quit whining about great free software that allows you to choose both... Jesus, what a bunch of complainers.
Couldn't Google just start the Let's go Metric initiative? Imperial measurements in any kind of engineering is completely ridiculous and a huge liability for errors to creep in. How hard is it to start using millimeters, centimeters, meter and kilometers instead of fractions of inches and feet.. Come on... Adding two measurement and converting scales shouldn't be a cause for errors at all.
@SquirrelFromGradLife i dunno about you; but i find using imperial is alot easier when using a measuring tape. while i agree alot of things should go metric, i just find inches and feet are easier to use on jobsites.
@Sidewinded Well if imperial measurements is so easy for ya, here's one example you may like.
Say you have a "client" that has a very very expensive job with three side glass panels worth 40,000 dollars each. Total length is 27 feet 5, 7/16 inches, now divide that into three for the panels and add 4, 3/8 inches for spacing plus 10% for the enlargement the client demanded. Answer in feet and inches in one minute using only your head. Remember you're out 120,000 if you're wrong.
@Sidewinded I agree. Historically feet and inches were nominally linked to the human body. An inch to a thumb etc. Visualising 2500mm is harder than say 8ft. The UK has a mix. Since 1971 we've been metric but we still use miles, pints, pounds, stone and yards. Yet talk in grammes, millileters, cm and mm. Each system has its pros and cons.
@Sidewinded I prefer tenths and Hundredths of a foot on a job site. Now this is coming from a Surveyor, not a contractor, but for me its way faster. Better yet is a tape with tenths and inches, and an engineer's scale :)
@SquirrelFromGradLife Because they would lose a huge userbase if they did. No one is going to forsake their companywide policy of imperial units just so they can use google sketchup. They'll just use some other program. It makes no business sense.
I've wanted to learn 3D modeling for a long time and this is simply awesome! Thank you for Google SketchUp, and these wonderful easy to follow video tutorials!

@SquirrelFromGradLife That's not a real world scenario and makes you sound ridiculous.

@GasgGuitar
Hey try using the semicolon " ; "
Google sketchup help pages have confusing information about what should you use.
Also if that worked the coma is used for decimals. For example:
7,6m;4,3m (metric)
7,6';4,3' (imperial)
Hope it helps

@SplinterAFG Yes that worked! Thanks!

@SplinterAFG Hey, change the keyboard language setting thingy to US (right lower corner in Windows or just tap CTRL + SHIFT until it has changed.
