Oil reserves of the world, with best estimation, have a life of 80 years. Of course it won't get that long since people will have to find alternatives before it is depleted. There is no country in this world who does not have a huge future benefit in investing to Atomic energy, right now. If you would have an idea about energy gap of the world, you would not be able to sleep in peace tonight.
I also know that Iran, as well as Turkey needs badly of atomic energy. But Iran is doing it right now, where Turkey is talking it since 30 years. This is the difference. Btw. Turkey may need atomic energy but not Iran. If iran had any feasible energy programs she would start building refineries in Iran, not Indobesia, so that it wouldn't have to import petrol.

Future being uncertain, I always prefer today's Iran, over a state that is only a toy in the hands of America and Israel. Trying to fix such a complex unity like Iran, by just hitting on it - especially when it is still working- is not a wise choice for neither Iranians, nor their neighbors.
Of course they have a more closed society, and less democracy today, but they have more independency and more options in choosing their economy, military, science politics. They have even a better educated society compared to us, and at some extent a more balanced distribution of wealth, a better shared wellfare.
That's my point of view, and I will keep it as long as Iranian people keep supporting the IR, as they are doing right now. To all my experience, Iran doesn't seem to me a place where human rights, freedom and daily life is under a monsterous pressure. At least not worse than what we have here in Turkey.

In so far as the Iranian people's whining is concerned, one might argue any nation might whine, regardless of its type of government, when its riches are squandered for the welfare of its historic arch-enemies--in our case Arabs, when 90% of its own people live under the poverty line.
Please resort to your logic before you make such generalizations about the Iranian nation.

All governments, even most democratic ones, are coming always with 3 things:
1- A strong propoganda machine spreading lies
2- Secret police with license to kill
3- A lot of angry students who think they must do something to set the country free from slavery
I still think, job creation, energy supply and safety is more important. Too much democracy can be harmful for these important values. And governments have full anti-democratic support from public at this point.

Working class people are the only ones who has power to change a country's regime. Something that working class always refused is to put Food-Safety-Fredom in risk to join dreams of intellectuals & students. When the time comes, however, they may need some intellectual help, and be sure such demand creates always a supply. The problem about Iranian student movement was that people did not buy it. Ask Americans, I am sure they have a lot of statistical study about it.

And, as long as a government, Iran in this case, can provide jobs for its people, and don't let people die in wars with no reason, this government is very hard to go down. True for USA, true for France, true for Israel and also Iran. Students, radicals, opposition etc. can always demonstrate, but this doesn't change anything. Great majority will listen them only if things really go bad. Surely Iran is much better than it was in 1970's.

yok hocam estafirullah. ben diyorum ki eğer insanların çoğu memnun olmasa İran'daki rejimi ayakta tutabilecek hiç bir şey yok. Ne kadar sağlam görünseler de bu kadar zorluk ve baskı içinde darmadağın giderlerdi. Üstelik bir yığın da hata yaptılar yani dahi falan da değil bunlar. Demek ki halk destekliyor. 2+2=4. Tabii hem kaçanlardan, hem ordakilerden inancı olan olmayan çok arkadaşım oldu, zaman zaman ticaret de yaptık.

I am sorry for what happened to this guy but this is what's happening in all around the world. Same happened in USA in 1960's, in CCCP, in China and everywhere. If you mean USA is friendly to Iranian people, go and check how many young students were killed by SAVAK, MOSAD and CIA before 1979. There is a good reason why Iranian people voted today's government. And greater majority is not always who demonstrate, and make the most noise.

I am not aware of any demonstration recently. As far as I see Iran is doing well in economics, geo- strategy and energy politics. Of course they can never make everyone happy. People who want to see a western democracy in Iran, people with ethnic priorities etc. always will find something to complain about. But it does not mean that great majority want to kick mullahs down.

While you are on the subject, could you please delineate the distinction between western democracy and other types of democracy. There is only one type of democracy. If your alluding to the phrase 'Eslame Madani', let me assure you the folks who coined it are a bunch of demogauges as the tenets of Islam are at odds with democracy.

No government is there to stay, they live their life and go away, so will this govrnmnt.
And the next government will do the same if not worse.
But there is hope for reform, and it's not that bad...yes, it's bad...but not as bad as losing hope.
