Strictly no photography dot com encourages people to break laws for your appreciation. Quite often, there are reasons why you are not supposed to take photos. I dont think its a good message to encourage people to break the rules in some places considered sacred.

It is but when you think about it, but heres a couple of points. many tourist destinations rely on people coming to the places, and also their own photography to stay alive.. if they arent receiving money from their own photographcs/people visitting, the places end up closing. also, photography can damage some old paintings and whatnot...

I'll make two more points... the photography taken doesn't really deter people from visiting the destination - it in fact does quite the opposite. I used to work as a photo editor and we would hire photographers to go all over the world, take photos, then sell those photos to magazines, tourist boards, etc... the photographers weren't native to the places they would take photos of.

And a lot of the photos taken of paintings are w/o flash - so there isn't any structural damage. On a personal level - no amount of photos would deter me from wanting to go to the Sistine chapel and seeing it in person. ;)
