  • i feel the same way, i just use it to my advantage

  • I hate when so many older people assume that teenagers or young adults (im 18) are wrong or make bad decisions all the time! I've been through a lot in my short time on this earth and I like to think I'm just as understanding/sensible as most adults!

  • Looking young for your age is something that is just going to keep getting better and better for you over time, so hope that you'll always look younger than you are. Oh, and I knew very early on not to take you at all seriously. :)

  • In Vold I trust!

  • So do I

  • I look younger than I am as well. It can get really annoying in certain situations, but I've kind of learned just to brush it off. People's instinct is to make generalizations based on appearances and I know that sometimes I can be guilty of that.

  • oh my god. the twins thing. I have a sister that is a year older than me and everyone thinks we are twins or I am older. It's so annoying and I'm getting ridiculously sick of it so I know exactly how you feel.

  • but hey, if you look younger you can get into movies for cheaper. oh wait...

  • Would it help if you punched them in the balls first just to establish who the man is in the conversation? They might respond then.

  • i'd take your guidance and expertise seriously

i look a lot older than what i am, which isnt always a good thing

  • @ForgetTheLie I don't think i'd like it very much if I were mistaken for being older than I am.

  • @Voldey it can work sometimes, im still young. but sometimes its frustrating

  • I also find this annoying, especially when it's used as a response in its own right.... 'Oh, silly you, you're just too young to understand. I'm going to run away now because I don't have a proper response for you, because you are entirely right.'

They soon come running back when it comes to dealing with computers though, don't they? Hahaha... I actually get a masochistic pleasure out of giving tech advice to oldies, just because of being treated like an idiot as a child.

  • @OrgasmandTea Yeah, they all do come running back every time they need help with computers. "Oh, you don't know anything about this but you sure do know a lot about computers!" -_-

  • That is annoying when you dont get listened to because people presume your not old enough to understand. My problem is a whole different one and that is being treated like i dont know what i'm talking about in regards to maintaing my car and guitars... granted its mostly the older generation who seem to do this moreso in my experience but its still a bit annoying.

Least as you say when the years go by you will still look younger which will be pretty awesome :)

  • @Katest3r I completely understand your problem. People don't think you know what you're doing because you're younger than other people who know what they're doing. It sucks.

  • Yesterday I was told I look 13 and sound English, when in fact I am 19 and Australian. The person who told me was five years old, but still...

  • @neonfiona 5 year old's don't know any better. Now, it'd be different if it were a 20 year old telling you that.

  • @Voldey Yeah I know, I just wanted to relate in some way when really I haven't run into this issue much at all yet haha (:

  • Your youthful appearance will benefit you in the future.. 6yo BL.

  • @confidential247 and I am completely grateful for that, quincy ;)

  • Yes, I try not to judge people by their age or appearance, but by their words and actions. When people assume every day you've "Barely graduated highschool," including people attempting to hit on you, "Hey, I'm legal!" when in fact you're practically 24...

But if you're that concerned about it, you might try cutting/styling your hair. Those kinds of things really can make a difference; they do for me at least.

  • @WebsterAnn I don't know about that. I never liked when I had shorter hair and I don't think it would help me much.

  • I'M GOING TO THE SEATTLE TOUR DE NERDFIGHTING! and I'm not taken seriously because of my age, and it makes me wonder how old I have to be before people will start listening to me... although running into public areas screaming "I GOT A HANKLERFISH" doesn't exactly simultaneously scream maturity

  • @JadeSClark YESSS WE GET TO HANG OUT AGAIN. I'll have to make sure you don't win at sopio again.

  • I'm the same. I'm 21 but I've been mistaken for a 16/17 year old kid....

  • @lexiz90 That happened to me when I was 21. Still happens now.

  • Man up and grow a beard. Or at least some awesome sideburns.

  • @Virini I am completely incapable for growing anything that could even be considered facial hair.

  • @Voldey :/

    False beard then?

  • My mid 30's 5'4 husband deals with that all the time... for some reason people keep calling him miss/mam/ young lady too (even when he had a goatee).

  • @candieyapple Oh man, I really really hope that never happens to me. I couldn't handle it.

  • oh.my word!!!i am going to tour de nerdfighter too!!!I am sooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!XD

  • @notsotinydancer13 SEE YOU THERE!

  • @Voldey Sadly,I am going to the one in Redwood City..DX

  • Tfios was spectacular. I have a lot of feelings regarding it and John's work in general and have felt sad lately because most of my friends haven't finished it yet and I haven't been able to discuss it fully with anyone.

I completely understand your pain about not being taken seriously. I am constantly asked if I am a freshman and it is quite frustrating. I generally try to have confidence and poise but my height and features give me a really young appearance. When I do have ideas I want to...

  • @shaylaluna ...share I often feel as though they are disregarded. Or if I am working people will ask, "Oh you're a teacher here?" and mention how I seem young. Grumble.

  • @shaylaluna I've wanted to talk about Tfios too but I just can't because nobody else has read it yet and I don't want to spoil it for anyone!

  • @Voldey Then we should talk about it!

  • People tell me i look like i'm around 25, but i'm only 18 D: I don't know whether i should take it as an insult or a compliment :'( Gah.

  • @sloopyrhinosniffer I wouldn't like that. Then again, I may change my mind if I ever get over this "looking young" thing.

  • 3 words: 2012 "men-of-the-internet" calender.

  • @jigarbov Best thing that has even been released on the internet.

  • ditto. i hate looking 16. there's a lot of times that i'm smarter than someone else, but i'm discredited because i look young.

  • @ghero46 Exactly. "you're too young to understand" is a big excuse they use when we win arguments with them.

  • Respect the Vold!

I have the opposite problem, I look older than I am. But my older brother, by two years, looks younger than he is, so people also think we look like twins, or I just look older than him. I used to really not like it when people would tell me that, but I've gotten used to it by now.

  • @NessaR12 I'm never going to get used to it because it just started happening. These stupid noobs need to learn to use their eyes. I have longer and darker hair than he does. I'm taller too. It isn't possible to mistake us.

  • Well I take you very serious, I don't know why people do this.Ignorance and stupidity I guess. In addition, when I was in college an student ask was I 30 year old because I didn't act my age.So she says stop me when I am closed. Of course she stop on 21 which she brought. Yes, I was a bit older then 21 years of age. No I am not 30 yet, I just turned 27 year old. I hate when people try to make feel old dude. Its like some 18-21 year olds try to rug it in.Please stop, not only that don't be nosy.

  • @geniusindesigns Agreed. People need to stop being nosy. It isn't good.

  • I had a mustache when I was 12

  • @nico3641 I envy your ability to grow a mustache.

  • You can't change how you look. You are correct. But you can change your body language and you could add an authoritative/confident attitude when you speak. You already have a deep voice so that helps.

  • @nico3641 I try all that stuff, it really doesn't work with adults who seem to think they're not talking to an "adult"

  • People frequently assume I'm a freshman in college, even though I'm only in 10th grade. It bugs me.

  • @luv2sing245 Yup, that'd definitely bug me too.

  • In my country we have to take an exam to decide what secondary school we can attend. EVERY YEAR when results come out, random strangers ask me what school I passed for, all excited. Meanwhile, I'VE GRADUATED FROM SECONDARY SCHOOL!! *sigh*

  • @themusicalnomad That mus be as painful as being asked if you're twins with your younger brother. (he's 5 years younger than me, a very noticeable difference)

  • Comment removed

  • i have the opposite problem. people always think i'm a lot older and act like i'm adult. i'm a teenager and definitely don't wanna be treated like an adult :P

  • @downbythebrooke I think people just want to be recognized as their real age, none of this older or younger stuff.

  • YAP. I weirdly get called older than I am, as well, though. I go from one time IN COLLEGE being asked whether I'm old enough to sit in the exit row for a plane to then arriving and being mistaken for a Doctoral student. I don't know which I prefer, but I think I'd rather just be my age now.

  • @fizzylimon I'd rather be just my age too. Just once, I'd like to be mistaken for being older than I am or at least my age/.

  • Yup everyday at work people ask me where something is and when I tell them we don't it they go ask someone else. One time that happened and the girl they asked sent them back to me saying 'she's the one to ask, she knows where everything is'

  • @Batmary21 That kinda happened to me one time as well. My manager pretty much ended up doing exactly what I originally told him I'd do.

  • I know how you feel dude. Not that people think I look younger than I really am, but I always disliked people judging me and others just by their appearance.

  • @jfhburr123 It must really be that older people feel like they shouldn't be "told what to do" by younger people.

  • Hey kid, can I get some fries with this video!

  • @JerrysFunhouse yes you can!

  • Yanno what maybe you should grow your hair out really long again. You'd probably be taken way more seriously Justin.

  • @Cadegoestocollege you and I both know that wont be a good idea.

  • I used to work at a fast food restaurant and none of the customers would ever take me seriously, nor the workers for that matter, even when I was their superior. I literally got a guy fired because he wouldn't listen to what I said about following protocol and such. And it was all because I was too young! Btw, I wasn't the sole reason the guy got fired, that sounded bad, it was partly because of that, but mostly because of some sexual harassment in the workplace... he was a creeper.

  • @brandonkalsip My brother almost got fired for sexual harassment. He didn't even mean it but the girl was having a bad day and took it out on him. Sexual harassment isn't something to be joked about and he learned it the hard way.

  • I know how you feel. Me and my mom were at this event and they asked all of the men to stand up. I graduated in 07 and had been working at least part time while I applied to school. So when I stood up, the guy at the podium took one look at me at basically said that he meant "real men" and that I was still a boy who knew nothing. I always took people saying I looked young as a compliment until this very moment. I was about 20 years old so having someone basically make me the butt of his speech.

  • @IsJamesTheDirector apprently, to "adults", we don't know anything about the world. In reality, we probably know so much more than they do and they don't want to admit it.

  • 1:08 They laugh now... WE SHALL LIVE LONGER!

  • @AdamUPNow EXACTLY MUAHAHAHA

  • OMG...this is soooo true!!! my mom is like that i hate it soo much and i dont know what to do to change her mind...some people are just blind!

  • @anitushka1 I think they just don't want to be told what to do by "kids"

  • I know how to solve your problems. Wear a tuxedo everywhere you go. This might get you fired but worth a shot lol.

  • @TJ4kicks I don't think that would get me fired. I'll have to try that

  • Ahhh I want my copy. I want my copy. But about the topic at hand at work I went to a table and it took me three tries to get everyone's attention so I could give them their food "Chicken satay wrap" they all stared at me and then started talking to each other again D: three times! And it was FOOD! People normally pay attention when their food finally comes

  • @ammiella That's just wrong. I can't believe they'd do that to you. I'm glad that's never happened to me.

  • I can relate; I'm 18, the age between childhood and adulthood where you're not really accepted in either, but I grew a beard during no-shave November and it was surprising how many more adults would talk to me on a good level without looking down to me, despite the fact my beard looked awful.

  • @JohnTalksToYou Oh man, i wonder if that would work for me. I don't think it would because my beard wouldn't even show up unless you looked really closely at me.

  • I know what you mean! Get that all the time at work.

    LOL.. "I'm not impressed".

  • @WellThoughtResponse I just can't see how anyone could confuse me with my brother. We are nothing alike.
