Very moving, the lyrics are derived from a poem from Spain and are over 400 years old. Narciso Serradel arranged what we might call the modern version and there are some wonderful cuts on youtube. There is also one by Cuban star Rosita Fornes which is outstanding or even Princes Christina who sings at a royal funneral for her uncle I beleive. Amazingly moving.
Nothing like this rendition from the film. The good byes, the lingering kiss, the flower given to the gringo, the waving of the poor people who all grasped that this was a ride to their death. How beautiful and heart wrenching this particular scene was.
Sam Peckinpaw was a pure genius.
One of my all time favorite movies---and melodies.
This is one of William Holden's best movies. Every time I watch it and it comes to this scene I get a lump in my throat. Great song. Great picture. Also, Edmond O"Brien is great in this. Love that 'crane-shot at the end of movie. Sam Peckinpah can really direct.
I am glad that you like this song. I did not know anything about it, but I suppose it is a Mexican song that is sung in a sad situation. This poem is a contribution to the thesis that the Wild Bunch is one of the best westerns, but one of the best movies ever made ...
Peter Jackson tried to steal this scene in RotK (when Faramir and the army leaves Minas Tirith for the totally pointless battle) but it's nowhere near this. Peckinpah simply rocks.
very emotional melancholic melody. the spanish interpretation of tunes is differed in tempos and tonal modes than any singers who recorded she wears my ring its far behind superiority. Id like to know who are those groups of villager who sang this.
This song is used during funerals in Mexico. I'm sure Peckingpah knew this. One of the best moments of this film: The funeral march. The town - and I believe the gunfighters themselves - know they're likely riding off to their deaths.
Beautiful and emotional music - my favorite piece of movie soundtrack and until now my only way of listening to it was to watch the film (an old man finally discovering the internet)
The Wild Bunch is one of my Ten Best Movies of All Time. I saw it on opening night when it was first released in 1969. Who knew it would become a classic? Actually I sensed it might even then.
But I never learned the name of the song the villagers sang until today, when it suddenly occurred to me to do a web search.
They didn't have the Internet back in 1969, when I was still an undergrad in college.
Such a beautiful scene. Peter Jackson tried to steal this (RotK Extended Edition), but totally failed to reach this level of awesome.

A song that no Anglo could ever sing nor write. They just don't have it in them to do it.
