  • Bud Selig

  • I fave been really sad when I saw that one the best team of baseball was sold as pawnshop things... Bill Lee was a famous pitcher and was enjoying playing in Montréal ... Loria, Brochu and samson killed one of my proud like thousand fans ! Even if I live in France since a long time, my pleasure was to go to the Parc Jarry and the Stade Olympique ! God bless you Bill, and thanks to Stan to bring Loria, Brochu, Samson and co. in his hell .. Sorry fot my english!

  • Baseball fans in Montreal did not accept that selling off of their best players after the 1994 strike...

Loria (Ali Baba) and the 40 thieves (Brochu and company) only wanted to sell the Expos to get their cash...To hell with them!!

  • Way to tell them Bill !!!!

  • God Spaceman is fucked in the head.

  • man bring back the Expos

  • Lol

  • i wonder if i have his card...

  • Bill Lee! LMFAO! What a character. Man I miss the expos.

  • The Expos fans are why the Expos don't exist. People in Montreal don't care about the game. They used to have games with less than 7000 people there

  • I love Bill Lee!!

  • lol the expo's suck

  • Love the Spaceman, Don't get the Carter comment! That being said, COME ON KID, YOU CAN BEAT THIS!!!

  • You see why communism works! Freedom & Democracy DOESN'T WORK! Freedom & Democracy only serves the wealthy. Only the wealthy have freedom YOU DONT!! Just like Rich corperations dont pay taxes,,BUT YOU DO!!! Now if Canada and the U.S had a system like the Soviet Union expos would be still playing ball in Canada now. Its time for people to rise up!!! Fight for the workers rule! CREATE A COMMUNIST WORKERS PARTY!!!

  • @steveox1961 And this has to do with baseball how...? Seriously people. If it doesn't relate to the video don't post it.

  • @mackhumesalt Cause Freedom & Democracy doesnt work. If Canada was like the Soviet Union You wouldnt be losing Baseball,Basketball and Hockey teams.

  • Theres a facebook page called "we want expos back" i would ecourage everyone to join to show that there is a market for the expos return.

  • I wish the Expos would come back, but MLB will never let that happen.

  • Montreal teams had a knack for funky cool logos. the Expos logo and the 70s Alouettes logos were my fave. Gotta love MTL

  • I miss my Expos.

    Bring back Nos Amours!!!

  • Let's be honest, here: If Bud Selig had wanted the Expos to stay in Montreal, they would still be there. But it wasn't as profitable for Selig's fellow owners, and so off they went.

The irony is, if that Montreal/Miami/Boston merry-go-round hadn't happened, not only would the Expos still have had a chance to stay, but Lee's beloved Red Sox would never have won a World Series, let alone (ah-steroids-choo!) two. So, with all due respect to D.C., another city I like, they should have stayed.

  • the spaceman knows what he talking about, should have thrown bud under the bus too!!!!!Selig let this happen, remember we must contract teams in 03,pompus ass

  • Where do i go to see Bill Lee where he's outspoken?

  • I wish to see Expos back in Montréal but .....how can we compete with these actual pay salary ?

How much will cost to see a game today ?

Have a look with the Pirates, Cubs, Blue Jay's, Marlins and the others !

It's ridiculous to see how they pay the Yankee's ?

    Pierre

  • Bill Lee is the best

  • What killed the Expos was they're Front Office, the City of Montreal and the Province of Quebec. For not building them a ballpark.

  • Comment removed

  • Can someone explain about the relationship with and Charles Bronfman and Gary Carter?

  • @kingofallwhites yup. Charles Bronfman the then owner of the team couldn't live the a decision he made to pay Carter $16 million for 8 years which was a ridiculous amount in those days so he traded him to the Mets for Hubie Brooks, Mike Fitzgerald, Herm Winningham and Floyd Youmans. As Carter was such a popular player in Montreal it was a big blow to the fans when he left.

  • In a perfect world Dick Cheney would be in jail and The Montreal Expos would come back to Montreal where they belong.

  • Long live Spaceman :-)

  • great man

  • bill lee is soooooo great.

underrated baseball player, a lot of charisma, and a beard (back in 79)!!

  • The Phillies were not World Champions in 1981.....Schmidt hit that TWO run (not three run) homer in 1980 off Stan Bahnsen.... Rick Monday was NOT a pinch hitter in 1981 he was the starting Right Fielder for the LA Dodgers (not Angels)! This guy knows nothing about baseball!

  • @BoyJewish

Bit of an overstatement 'guy knows nothing about baseball' - are you perhaps a yankees fan?

  • @BoyJewish

"This guy knows nothing about baseball"

He has forgotten more about baseball than you will ever know

    Shut your ignorant pie hole

  • Dick Cheney is an evil pig fucker. A 5 time draft dodger who sends young Americans off to die or be maimed is not a good man. He used the war to profit through Haliburton and now Haliburton is involved in the oil disaster in the gulf. You need to have your head checked hillbilly boy.

  • Only a drug addicted lefty would bring antiCheney insanity and leftist bullshit into a fukin "talk" about the Montreal Expos...the Expos

  • @deltapunk21 Cheney sucks balls.

  • It's so nice to see that "Spaceman" hasn't mellowed as he has aged!

  • well canada still has toronto blue jays...expos were teh joke of major league baseball...can't even win anything...well they are at a better place in washington...and go dodgers...expos are in the category of the worst teams...one example would be the la clippers

  • I'm from Boston love Bill Lee and Expos ! I love the Bruins over Canadians. But I'm

routing for the Canadians to win the cup of 2010! I love Montrial fans and the city! Go Canadians!!!!! Please win the Cup where it belongs!

  • Correction: The *1980* Phillies went to the World Series and Mike Schmidt hit that home run.

  • They should be put back in Montreal. The Nationals thing is a fucking farce. I have never seen anything as sad as Dick Fucking Child Molester Cheney throwing a pitch there.

  • @kingofallwhites Dick is a good man and fascist leftist like you can burn in hell for your smearing dishonesty and insane speak...ugly pig go to hell fag

  • At the end of the video -I wanted to hear more -Part 2 ?

    GO EXPOS !!!!!!.

  • Red Sox nation you have the class of that turd that Mr Lee referred to. Blessings to Montreal

  • the expos killed the expos they suck balls

  • The baseball left Montreal for one good reason, NO MONEY, NO CANDY, they had no support from local private corporations, only 3000 season tickets sold to them. A small tv contract and a stadium not made for baseball far away from downtown. Also baseball had to compete with a lot of free activities and festivals in summertime. Most of the time, Charles Bronfman lost money and the new owner group from Quebec wasn't interested to invest money to keep the best players.

  • If ya want the truth, ask the Spaceman. He'll never bullshit you!

  • Im 41 now and remember listening to teh Expos games on radio every night. The ballparc sucked, and burn in hell Brochu, Loria and the little prick Samson. Karma will get all u guys.

  • what was exactely the problem with the stadium?

  • @gairero It's cold and has echo. It's way too big for a baseball game. It had and still has problems with the roof. We finally paid the debt for it a few years ago, and it was built for the '76 olympics. It took 35 years to pay that stadium!!! It's now empty most the time. Only the leanning tower gets attention from the tourists for the view of the city.

  • This guy confuses the Angels and the Dodgers, and the Canadiens and the Expos.

  • couldnt have said it better myself...except you forgot that bud selig had a grudge on for the expos after they beat out his brewers for expansion in 69, but eventually got it out in 2004. Anyways go spaceman and go expos!!!

  • Montreal may have a second chance of a baseball team and will not be like the Expos that were fucked up every since '95 until they left.

  • Comment removed

  • okay one more thing...this might be completely stupid and naiive.

but honestly, in any way, would it be possible for the expos to come back?

sort of like how the washington senators left and came back as the nationals...

could the expos ever come back? if so...they would have to be an american league team and join the AL west because they need another team

  • 99% chance they would not come back, first of all because right now MLB is looking more to contract rather then expand. The talent has been watered down and with World Series ratings declining the last ten years (besides 2009) it does not make sense to add especially in Montreal (where there is a hardcore fanbase but is much too small to make an impact. If however MLB decides to move an already exsiting franchise (perhaps Florida or Oakland) it would most likely got to Portland, or Even Mexico

  • Alright, thanks. That makes sense. But to clarify, when you said "Mexico" did you mean New Mexico or Mexico Mexico? Just curious, it'd be real interesting to see an MLB franchise there. Also you mentioned possible to Marlins moving...I heard Charlotte,North Carolina is a possibility. is that true?

  • Ya the country of Mexico, more specifically Mexico City, and The North Carolina Virginia area is alomost always brought up when teams are looking to move. That region is probably 2nd behind Portland in terms of getting a team

  • Actaully a Marlins move is now out of the question, since Florida has a new Ballpark on the way due in 2012

  • @Asavagenation fuck the marlins

  • @simonOVC dont hate! you guys were good from 69 to 94 having only 3 loosing seasons that whole time but from after 94 you guys sucked and your attendance sucked nuff said....

  • the marlins arent moving! THERE STAYING IN MIAMI!

  • alright buddy, how about you then find 10 of your friends and take them to a game, making a marlins highest attendance record!

  • Comment removed

  • lol they started going because the division race was gettin a little tight at the end..how about before that?..look man u can be a marlins fan and defend the team, but don't defend the fans and the attendence..u know right damn well it's pathetic.

  • i cannot belief im still hearing this, the marlins arent moving. in fact there getting a new ballpark thats bieng built right now. so you tlking about the marlins moving is ignorant

  • though oakland might move but not far if they move there aiming on san jose which isnt very far from oakland

  • TheMarlinsFan..the only marlins fan lol

  • i love how basically the only insult people can give the marlins is attendance lmao 2 rings since 93? u cant talk shit to that buddy boy ps expos had depressing attendance look @ the numbers ours was higher then theirs thank you very much

  • who's talking about their world series?..u were trying to make excuses for their attendence. and i'm told u that u can't, because the only word for it is pathetic..i didn't say or imply anything else about them.

  • @itzahazylife doesnt really mean shit about attendance u can have good/or bad attendance but the only thing matters is if their good which the marlins generally are and attendance eh not the greatest but on saturdays they drew 40,000 multiple times this past year and their last home games for the 09 season wen they still had a shot for the playoffs were drawing better crowds then the braves who were right with them so wen it comes to important times were there sorry ass hater.

  • MLB is not looking to contract. Bud Selig was a few years ago, but that's because he's an incompetent asshole.

  • I miss the expos! ahhh i've always loved them.

because of the expos, i'm now also a nats fan...but everyday i think about the expos. their stadium, their awesome jerseys...something about it. i miss them so much

  • Spaceman is still crazy.

  • Of course i would like my Expos to still be playing in Montréal in a real baseball stadium. But after 1984, the Expos were progressively replaced in the summer by all those festivals. ("Jazz", "Laugh",etc.) It's also easy to get tickets for the Alouettes (CFL football) and the Impact (soccer/football) despite their success on the field over the years. In 2009, people spend mainly for the Canadiens and the stand-up comics who have become hugely popular in Québec for the last 10 years.

  • Bud Selig Killed The Expos!!!

  • Dodgers won in 1981

  • I used to go see their games all the time when I lived in Albany, New York. I miss them terribly. The city is great, the games were fun and I loved going into the season with blind optimism, hoping they might finally beat out the Braves for the division.

Man, I would give almost anything to have them back.

  • The strike killed the Expos really I think they died when they broke up the team with Carter, Dawson, Wallach, Raines, Parrish, Rodgers. Bill Lee quit on the team though I will never forget that day when Vin Scully told told the story where Jim Fanning was looking for him to warm up and he left a note and went to a club and told the manager if you need me I'm at the club. Fanning released him the next day.

  • I love it. They should have won it in 79 80 and 81. Well guess what, they didn't and people in Montreal and the city of Montreal didn't care about this team untill the last game.

  • People really gave up in 1998 if you look at the attendance.

    Game average for:

1979 26,000+ and over league average

    1980 27 and over l.a.

    1981 28 and over l.a.

    1982 28 and over l.a.

    1983 28 and over l.a.

then they'll struggle in the following years remaining under the league average but not doing that bad either.

    From 1984 to 1991 > 19K+, 18, 14, 22, 18, 22, 16, 11. then a rebirth with the prospects from 92-97 with 20K+, 20, 22, 18, 19, 18 and the downfall 98-2004 between 7-12K+.

  • and what happened in 1997 that pissed us fans off? Pedro was traded to Boston.

You would associate yourself to Larry Walker but then he'd leave and then to Wetteland but then he'd leave and then to Hill but then he'd leave, getting almost always a handful of spare change in return.

  • Add to this a sport that never allowed salary caps to regulate the money aspect + internal mismanagement from co-owners never seing eye to eye + bad stadium location with a faulty retractable roof + Selig wanting us out at all cost + a local government not wanting to get involved because of oversized deficit + small market to begin with and you have a team that's bound to move out if it doesn't win, finally, yes, because people don't show up anymore... get the picture?

  • @seby127 Montreal, a small market??? Are you kidding? There are around 4 million people in the Montreal area, without counting many fans that came from outer regions like Ottawa, Quebec City, Vermont and Upstate New York... Montreal is a big market.

  • they would of won the world series in 94 if there wasn't a strike

  • How do you figure

  • They were by far the best team in the NL at the time probably is what he's basing that on.

  • @Hutt1994 I know it's only sports, but the strike of '94 is one of my most painful memories. For once they had a substantial lead on the Braves, and looked ready to take it all. I haven't watched many baseball games since the Expos folded.

  • @Hutt1994 yea right

  • @Hutt1994 ummm the Yankees were GREAT in 94

  • @Hutt1994 i agree

  • The Washington Nationals are a joke, they suck and ain't doing shit but losing. The Expos should have stayed in Montreal.

  • Why should they have stayed there. Noone went to the games.

  • Bring Baseball Back To Montreal!!!

  • i was on a little league ball team called the expos and we had a back2back

  • Someone needs to get a team in Montreal

  • are you fuckin kidding me?

  • I'm pretty sure if the stadium was downtown and not in 2 dollar guy pepin pepper land we would still have the Expos here today.

  • IMO, MLB is due for an expansion and Montreal has to be one of them ...

Montreal is a wonderful city and deserves the Expos back. What happened in 2004 was real injustice.

  • Montreal doesn't WANT a baseball team! They dont even want to be part of Canada for fuck's sake! They dont even know what baseball is!

  • not just 2004, 1994 as well. The expos pretty much died in 1994, even if they moved 10 years later

  • Wonder what the story was with the Bronfman/Carter comments. Maybe it was about the clubhouse purge for drugs? Obviously Lee thinks that was overblown and destroyed team chemistry??

  • The 1994 strike hurt the team very badly. It caused attendance to dwindle and the team to lose fans. That why they moved to DC in 2005. Montreal will get a MLB team pretty soon by expansion or relocation hopefully the Nationals will moved back to Montreal because it will be a total failure in D.C. like the two Senators teams. Washington D.C. is a city of failures of baseball franchises.

  • beau cave bud selig, beau cave....

  • expos won 94!!

  • My Favourite Expos:Mgr-Gene Mauch

    C-Gary Carter..1B-Tony Perez..2B-Jose Vidro..SS-Orlando Cabrera..3B-Tim WallachLF-Tim Raines..CF-Andre DawsonRf-Ellis Valentine(because he had the arm to gun anyone out)..SP-Steve Rogers,,RP-John Wetteland.....Love The Spaceman

  • #1 Baseball Team of all time..

    or you missed it.

  • midget sun of a bitch! i love this guy

  • Frenchmen seperatists killed the Expos, who else? Stinnkin, dinkin, frenchmen lieu lieu esti pepsi and that welfare olympic stadium area, stadium should havve been downtown in the west side

  • British loyalist queers killed the Expos you homo.

  • lol, your poutine and pepsi killed the expos.

  • Steve Rogers, Bill Lee, Tim Raines, Warren Cromarty, Tim Wallach, Andre Dawson, Gary Carter, Andres Galarraga, Larry Walker, etc. great players !!!

    What happened ?

  • The economy, the strike and asshole owners like Jeff Loria, that's what happened.

  • They should have won it in 1982 but drugs did them in.

  • I'm 40 and live in NJ, but I vividly remember the late 70's Expos team, where they could have knocked off the Bucs, then the Phils in those two years. Then in the strike year of 81, didn't they go to the second round of the playoffs that year, and lose to the Dodgers in the NLCS? In that other strike year of 1994, didn't they have the BEST record in the majors? Jees, a lot of heartaches. I am very sorry things went the way they did.

  • C'mon, let's face the real thing.

"They" would not admit a canadian team winning 3 years in a road the WS.

So, "they" let the 1994's strike went on just to spoil Expos' chances...

  • Fuck you Claude Brochu.

  • Comment removed

  • Aww Expos :( I'm only 22 and remember going to the stadium watching those games with my father and grandpa.. good old times. Miss them :(

  • Calm down, guys. I'm a Nationals fan, but I always pay my respects to Montreal, and occasionally even wear an Expos cap to Nats games.

  • absolutely classic, great stuff bill!

  • why move a team if they want to get better

trade or draft better players and fire some coaches and managers they will still be a sorry team if they move

I don't think the expos should of left

their stadium and jerseys are way better than the nationals anyway

  • netsfan2k the franchise actually basically started to fail after the lockout so 30 years is a bit much no?

  • the expos had and sgtill does have the nicest and sickest logo in all of sports the most meaningfull the most original u name it. The fan base was horrible yeh i agree i remember going to buy tickets at the booth just b4 the game started thats how bad it was but to say it was just the fan base that killed them u have to be a pathetic fool to think that. And to say canada doesnt deserve a sports team is completly foolish the bills in toronto atacted 52 000 fans basically sold out stadium

  • NetsFan2k

And where did the Expos go? Oh yeah, to D.C., the capital of America that invented baseball and tried to sell it to Canada. Son, that market has FAILED TWICE in baseball franchises. From what it looks like it will fail again.

  • lol, but you guys failed for over , 30 years is it? LOL

  • Ha! NETS!

    They're no better.

  • you get two dickwads who own your fucking baseball team and see if anyone wants to go to the games

  • Nats have fans?

    hmm thats new

  • Netsfan, a fan base in Washington? HAH, how many teams has washington had now? this team isn't going to be any different than the last. It's going to die

  • 4000 towards the end...YOU DUMB FUCK

Expos were there since 1969 and between 1969 and 1997 the fanbase was alive....

Its when the owner started to fire sale every1 that people didn't go to the stadium anymore.

  • Brochu made a commercial suicide in the 90's by selling Walker,Deshields,Hill.... those guy after been sell tell that they were ready to accept less money to stay in Montreal so Brochu think selfishly without taking care of is star player minding and now the Expos are gone ...

I hope someday they will come back...

  • Actually the Deshields deal was a good move (Pedro Martinez). But you're right; the dismantling of the '94 team was one of the true sports tragedies of all time.

  • Loria and Samson are the biggest franchise killer of sports history but the MLB killed the Expos by dealing with those crooks. They could have saved the Expos. Loria and Samson only wanted to make money out of it and had no interest to keep the team in Montreal and the MLB helped them. Loria and Samson are the sons of the MLB bitch.

  • Loria, Brochu, Samson are son of a bitch!! ahahhhaha fu$&ing nice!!! EXPOS COMEBACK HOME!!

  • this is awesome

  • Every time I hear the Rick Monday incident get mentioned I get agitated and upset.

This video is genius, a must see for any baseball fan.

  • Sir, I have the utmost respect for you, especially concerning the Montreal Expos. Right now, I have decided to say "screw baseball."

  • EXPOS FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • I agree, Expos Forever!!!

  • Expos had hard luck but so did the Blue Jays in 1985 ALCS, 1987 AND 1990 collapse. I had no trouble cheering for both teams. Lee is right on.

  • I miss those summer nights listening to my Expos.. the day they let was the last time I cared for baseball, and no, the Toronto Blue Fags are NOT Canada's team.

  • Amen brother. I haven't watched a full nine inning regular season game since we lost the 'spos. This year I haven't even had enough interest to watch a full playoff game. Ive always hated the Jays, but when the Expos left I tried so hard to like them, I really did, I mean I loved ball soooo much; I just couldn't do it. I'd sit there trying to convince myself I wanted them to win, but I always felt so much better when they lost... it was hopeless.

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE the EXPOS. I still love them. I hate every single one of those owners Bill Lee mentioned. And I HATE Bud Selig. I hate what MLB did to our Expos. I wear my Expos cap, jersey and jacket to the ballpark. It has been so many season without my beloved Expos who I rooted for since 1969. This season I'll root for the Padres, but it will not be the same. I love baseball but I HATE the afoementioned men did to the Expos and especially the Expos fans.

  • Toronto more succesful than Montreal? You had better check your Stanley Cup count lately? as for the Raptors, they have the same number of championships as Montreal : Zilch ! better stick to your soap operas!

  • I like this guy, he knows his shit

  • Yep... he's dead on. Imagine how different things would be if any one of those seasons (79, 80, and 81) had panned out differently. He missed '94, though. Another World Series Championship snatched away by fate and the 'powers that be.'

  • Expos> Nationals to the power of 1823000000000

Nordiques> Avalanche to the power of 3

  • The Nats aren't even doing better than the Expos did. Their attendance is higher but it's still one of the lowest in the MLB

  • BROCHU , LORIA/SAMSON AND THE MLB KILLED THE EXPOS OVER THE YEARS. The players strike in 1994 and the firesales with the Expos players each years made fans quit following the team. LORIA/SAMSON even stopped having tv and radio broadcasts so that there are even less fans , they threw our best manager Felipe Alou out of the team and kept putting AAA players in the team.

  • je veu mes expo!!!

  • I loved the EXPOS!~

It had the most beautiful uniforms.

It had the most beautiful stadium.

Get the team back to Montreal.

What a shame to lose our beloved team.

When they sold our team they sold their souls.

What kind of team name is a nationals??

It is the most unthoughtful team name.

Worst team name of the history.

  • its true but forget the most beautiful stadium, the big 0 suck

  • great video thanks for posting it

  • AS a Montrealer i must say its a godamn shame the expos left montreal and i miss them, does anybody think with a big enough demand, the expos would return?

  • The real killer is they have the balls in Washington, to post Welcome Home on the left field wall in their new Stadium with a Nationals logo, they might be on their 3rd try. But really down deep inside the that team was born in Montreal, It's the Expo's & that's it''s real home, where it belongs...

  • Well, the Brochu book is certainly arguable.....he's painted in a bit of a better light than he should be...remember he wrote it. Anyway.....damn...I miss my Spos

  • They should move the Nationals to Montreal.

  • They had a great chance at the World Series, but then the season was cancelled due to lockout.... may have turned things around

  • MLB literally killed the Expos. They owned the Expos at the time they left, and were the people who literally moved them.
