Thankfully Lewdite is the arbiter of these comments, and thankfully his rendition of this song is as folksy and full of fun as it is, just the way he did it. Those of us who remember other verses, do not add them to insult anyone, if someone is insulted, and they feel that a verse in someway is not for children, perhaps you might listen to the entire song. The lady swallowed bugs and animals, and I'm sure you do not think children should emulate the old lady.
honestly, what this song is it's a link song, which allows children to follow a progression of things and practice that to develop an awareness of order of progressions, to attribute some ulterior sinister motivation to the verse I contributed is a corruption of my intent, you need your own censor centurygarden31, no one is insulting christianity by saying how sinister, she swallowed a minister. It's just a clever rhyme.
Thank you for your feedback, I sing this to my new born son daily, and when I get tired of singing, I play one of the versions on youtube. I remember hearing Burl Ives as well. Your version was great, and I am glad you enjoyed the verse that I remembered from some long ago rendition of someone, I can't quite remember who.
another verse that I haven't heard sung much: I know an old lady who swallowed a minister, how sinister, it finished her (sung instead of the horse verse)
@centurygardens31 this song is a joke, I heard several other verses, what a tale to swallow a whale; how preposterous to swallow a rhinosourus; how inopportune she swallowed the moon. I wrote my verse about the minister, and Lewdite did not find it objectionable, he would have deleted it if he felt that in some way I was trying to insult some christian sect, but he understood that like all the other verses, it is in good clean fun. that was over a year ago. It is your mind looking for an insult.
GREAT! Just absolutly great! I was singing this song o my 4 year-old to keep her entertained in the car today and she was enthralled by the song! I couldn't remember all of the verses. Thanks so much for posting this. By the way....I like the campfire. Nice touch! - A Kentucky Mommy
This was one of the songs my mom taught me thank you so much for uploading this
