I spent Christmas in the Persian Gulf back in 1990/1991, I was on the USS WORDEN CG-18 so I know how you feel...a lot of folks don't remember that war...but I do know what it's like to be in combat and away from home...my dad and uncles were in WWll so I relate to this film in many ways....

I spent Christmas 2004 and 2005 in Baghdad, 2006, 2007, 2008 in Bogota and this year in Afghanistan. It's tough being away from home and family at Christmas, but this song (and the movie) make it easier to tolerate. The early scenes in this movie mean a lot more to me now than they did in my younger days. Merry Christmas to the men and women deployed around the world and especially here in Kabul.

There is this oddly solemn tone to this, isn't there? I know Crosby didn't change his voice at all, but looking out at the troops like that, combined with his voice, it creates an image I wouldn't otherwise have listening to this song.
