  • In this City is a 100 year atomoblie making tradition. it started with Horch and Audi and after WW2 the City was in the east secter and they now builded the Trabant. The engineers constructed newer better cars but the goverment did not allow to build them because they said the Trabant is good enough for the people. After the Reunification VW Golf and Passat and the chassis for Bently and VW Pheaton are manufactured there.

  • well, the technology was outdated. You think it was any different in the 50 and 60ies in the western states?

    At least the people had a decent work place, and they built a car that got you from A to B.

    It was a "Arbeiter- und Bauernstaat", not a "Konsumentenstaat".

    Es gab damals schon bessere Autos, und verglichen mit dem was man heute so bekommt, ist ein Trabant natürlich Mist.

    Aber man muss gleiches mit gleichem vergleichen, die Autos waren vor 40 oder 50 Jahren halt nicht so entwickelt.

  • It was actually the typical way to build a car in the 60s when the Trabant was designed. Citroen 2cvs were still built this way in the 90s, and the same for VW beetles, and the old British Mini.

    When a documentary was made about the 2cv in the late 80s - Citroen forbid camera crews from filming the factory because they didn't want potential customers to see this kind of thing!

Watch closely @ 3.50 the hood latch fails when the car enters the water spray test area. Government Motors (GM) will offer this type of car when Obama totally kills our economy.     In DDR theyre was no 4 Stroke Engines because the BRD dont wanna work with DDR and Volkswagen dont want give the 1.1 Engine from the Polo.

    The 2 STroke was a not expensive Engine and you repair him in your kitchen.

Compare with some cases that I saw there, this video is still hi-tech approach :-) So don't think it is only trabant made that way, most of your cars comes to you same way, especially from usa and europe. Only japanesse are really better in building quality these days
