Theres alot of keyboard warrior denigrating the .380 round like its a .22 or something.
I personally think from experience that the .380 is the BEST personal defense round there is... low recoil, low muzzle blast and noise so it wont blind and deafen You at night, accurate and easy to do follow up shots, and the round is perfect for a small form concealable pistol like the LCP or my personal carry gun the outstanding Sig P238... and with some good hollowpoints... forget about it
They say the human skull is liken to a quarter inch piece of plywood in bullet resistance. I would love to see a .380 bullet shot at a 1/4 " plywood or a human skull whatever you can do . thanx
Very helpful camera work to demonstrate what this caliber can do. From reading your comments, you used Aguila FMJ 95 grain. It would be interesting to capture the effect of JHP on this melon. I have a Bersa Thunder .380, which is much heavier (at 20 oz. with empty mag) than LCP but excellent sights and good "feel".
@antwan17 I do believe a .380 ACP is better than nothing. Kel Tec .380s are nice small guns that have light recoil and are good enough to do the trick. Not to mention, if I was attacking someone, and they shot me with a .380, and I didn't die, I don't think I'd be in the mood to continue after them.
@StSimonMartyr I truly think that the only reason 38 specials (and even the +P) are only used anymore because they can be shot from the tiniest of revolvers. They are light in recoil, and great for someone not comfortable with heavier recoil (though my mother at 5'1" can fire a .40 S&W without batting an eye). Beyond these reasons, the .38 special is really an underperforming, outdated round. Then again, we are speaking of handgun ammunition, which, truth be told, are all underpowered.
There is no.380 auto video ammo that test the different ammo . I can only find fourum stats Im in Canada so there is way thats happeningA wet phone book with maybe cor-bons, jhp, any bonded jhps I think four hallos points and maybe two 95grain fmj would be enough. A hole lot of 380 pennitration talk these days.
Jhp= Jacketed Hallow Points speed up when entering but du they have the 9inch of depth we all need OR IS FMJ that HITS 12-15inches MIGHT BE JUST AS GOOD..u will many hits
@tdotrunners I have tested just about all the ammo available. For defense, 70g Powerballs are the best. Next, Remington or Winchester FMJ. Remington is American, Winchester is Czheck (95 vs. 92 grains). Hornady are supposedly made for this gun (there is a picture of the LCP on the box), but the "smiley" problem seriously affects the pointed tip with adverse opening affects. For a hollowpoint, Speer make the best. I carry a mag of each if I can, usually powerballs and FMJ.
@Blanckmeister I don't know where you heard PowrBalls are the best... In .380 often times the jacket separates from the core and they expand unreliably... Corbon DPX's are a MUCH better choice for a HP .380 round.
And if you want a the best FMJ, look at Buffalo Bore. Expensive like Corbon, but a very hot .380 round.
@RidgeRunner88 I didn't hear this, please reread my post. I did not compare Buffalo Bore because I felt it unsafe in The LCP. I also would not recommend hollowpoints of anykind for that gun for that matter, but if I had to because nothing else is available, the Speer/CCI black box functioned flawlessly(approx. $20 for 20r). Powerballs are not necessarily hollowpoints, but you are correct in your statement that the jackets sometimes separates from the core.
@thegentleart Oh, I can see your point, but honestly how many people grab a box of "winchester white box" at ole Walmart and call it "good enough"? I'm guessing that isn't a small number.

Buffalo Bore and Double Tap have 380 loads that meet or exceed 38 Special +P loads
Why anyone thinks the 380 is a mousegun is beyond me.
Shot placement > Caliber

ok, i was hoping these were not HP's you should do one with HP's for comparison.

@StoppingPowerInfo using FMJ isn't really depicting "stopping" power, since no one should use FMJ's for self defense.
