  • Wow not helpful at all....

If anything you just confused people even further.

  • Yes, I'm so not confused now! what the heck is a LAN? what is a WAN? (I know what they are but if i had no clue and watched this video I still wouldn't know.) you should actually add on to this and explain the real world scenario you are trying to solve walk us through the setup. something more than point and label!!

  • Now I am more confused than ever...

  • lan to lan vs wan to lan than is ????????

    wot is lan or wan

  • Pointless Setup, 3 routers and connect router to router from WAN to LAN.

Use 1 Modem/router or Modem/Wireless/Router 1 or 4 port and then connect each LAN switch to the Routers LAN port to connect as many PCs as you like up to 256 PC's, LAN switches come as small as 4 ports up to 24port I think ! Maybe bigger.

  • rofl, do you realise that WAN means wide area connection made up of smaller LAN's through switches of large geographical scales?, this is totally pointless... you obviously only need a LAN/WLAN where you are... WAN's are for buisnesses to connect offices for total epicness

  • geeekyest voice ever

  • ok, may it be 2, but the one at the bottom is really unneeded imo

  • Why not just get a bigger LAN switch to support more users rather than getting two switches?

  • @teckforce37

#1 They are not switches. They are routers (as need be, they can be converted to swtiches).

#2 If you meant, Router: Why should I get a bigger router (with more than four LAN ports)?

#3 Otherwise. Because depending on what places I shop, a router is cheaper than a switch.

  • @trpted

woops didnt see the antennas lol nice

  • where is the wlan cable? ^^ xDDD ;P

  • do u have any idea about LAN and WAN..?? it seems like u've visited a frnd's house and made this vdo on his devices with your tiny little knowledge. Remember- A Little Learning is Dangerous.

  • This is lan... this is wan.... LOL ! Man... that is just router ports... I think that you dont really knows what is the real WAN or MAN ;)

  • Yes, I have heard of a switch.

A router is cheaper than a switch, depending on where I looked for one.

  • @trpted I got a 48 port switch with two combo GBIC ports for ten dollars on Ebay. You should try that.

  • i got a block of 32 ip addresses running into my home i can subnet it and route it thru real cisco routers any way i want, also got a fortigate firewall running in transparent mode

  • Hahhahahaha this is very easy to setup. You should maybe consider doing a more specific video than just telling "This is WAN to LAN"

  • lmao,, this is gnu/linux ubuntu

  • Like what more specific video ?

  • en español por favor..!!!

  • Sorry, I don't speak Spanish. Text Translation provided by babelfish.

If it helps, the first two routers that I pointed to are connected LAN to LAN to each other. The other two are connected WAN to LAN.

Apesadumbrado, I don' t habla español. La traducción del texto proporcionó por el babelfish.

Si ayuda, los primeros dos ranuradores que señalé a son LAN conectado al LAN el uno al otro. Los otros dos son PÁLIDOS conectado al LAN.

  • Transcript of what was said: To help deconfuse people I setup my network in two different ways. This is LAN to LAN. And this is WAN to LAN. Thank you.

    **

Transcripción de qué fue dicha: Para ayudar a gente del deconfuse I fijó mi red en dos maneras diferentes. Éste es LAN al LAN. Y esto es PÁLIDO al LAN. Gracias.

  • fucking pointless. you only need one..

  • That is right for certain reasons and also wrong at the same time. Let me give you some reasons, why people have more than one router.

#1 The user did not know or forget that their modem is a modem combo (modem and router all-in-one).

  • Here are some more reasons.

#2 Their router has fewer LANs port to it, then they need. For example their modem has only LAN port, but now they have two computers and the user wants both at the same time and using only one public IP address.

#3 They are trying to use the DMZ in their router. And they know that on most routers, when they use the DMZ all of the other computers are at risk.

  • to #2 u use switch for that. connect router and after it connect switch with as many ports u need

  • #4 Also if they want to use wireless. Cost compared to other wireless devices. This will depend on the features of the wireless device, where, and how they shop.

The cost of a wireless router. From $34.99 to $279.99.

The cost of a pure wireless point, not including router. From $79.98 to $419.99

#1: Stupid user. Should learn before you use stuff. It's called a picnic (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer).

#2: Switch. Using a whole other router for that is very wasteful as its not made for that. Only when you buy low grade consumer routers in stores (like the linksys you have) and dont use real network routers (cisco and others) do you get a builtin switch (although some cisco routers do have a switch, and some switches are layer 3 capable of routing).

  • But most cases its not that way.

#3: The DMZ thing could be a maybe. But the easiest thing is to get software firewalls on all the other pcs. I've used DMZ for over a year straight and nothing happened to my other xp boxes bad with a 1 router setup.

#4: If that's the case get a linksys or someone else. They all basically have builtin wireless now. Just buy that in the first place.

Now a real reason to have 2 routers is if one is hacked with dd-wrt you can wireless bridge it then use a router.

  • Really?

This Video was made to show the difference between WAN to LAN and LAN to LAN. If I did not have more than one router, how would I have done it - Hmm?

  • @trpted OMG, where are the serial connections, the X.21's or the V.35 cables? The EIA/TIA-232 connectors, or the EIA/TIA-449/530, or maybe even the EIA/TIA-612/613... wait you dont even have any EIA-613 HSSI connectors.

This does not even come close to showing the difference btwn a lan and a wan connection. Where are your 2950 routers, with at least v.35 serial cables? No where, so buy some more hard ware & try Again!

    Epic Fail...

  • @monst4h

Please tell me: Where did you get that number of routers from?

    Thanks.

  • @geminiwoe Why are you tell me that I only need one router?

Mr Mark Thompson of AnalogX has 60 routers!

  • @trpted Get a new voice please.

  • @geminiwoe not true. if you have more than 4 devices. what then??? not so pointless now.
