Gawd...no wonder the angels weep. Look foks...it's VERY simple...Google it, look at the label from the original 45 or look up the lyrics. This song was not written, arranged by, nor did it feature Brian Wilson or ANY of the Beach Boys. The song was written by Jan Berry and Don Altfeld. Phil Sloan and Steve Barri sang the backgrounds along with Jan & Dean with Jan overdubbing his lead vocal. On the "Concert" LP the Beach Boys DID do a COVER of it but THIS is the ORIGINAL version by Jan & Dean.
I posted a response video. LISTEN to the music with the background vocals and then the background vocals by themselves and you'll be able to tell that NONE of the BB's sang on this tune. The high falsetto was handled by Phil "Flip" Sloan later of the Fantastic Baggys. He and Steve Barri were J&D's background singers (along with The Honeys and occasionally Jill Gibson) from "Little Old Lady" right on up to Jan's accident in 1966.
This is the original J&D version from 1964 with Phil Sloan and Steve Barri handling the backgrounds. The only ONLY version of this the BB's did of this was on their "Concert" live album from 1964.
Jan & Dean...Original...Might have been on the BB and J&D greatest hits CD...And Yes we all know that the BB (or some of them ) backed vocals on many Jan & Dean studio recordings...Ripple Red rules lol
This was a Jan and Dean hit in 1964, but the song was performed live by the Beach Boys at Sacramento Municipal Auditorium on August 1st 1964 for inclusion on their No.1 album Beach Boys Concert. The Beach Boys, and particularly Brian Wilson, who co-wrote several of Jan & Dean's biggest surf hits, had supported Jan & Dean in the recording studio to initiate them in the surf music genre. So even I, a big Beach Boys fan, can't be 100% sure if this is the Jan & Dean rendition or The Beach Boys.
@ItsThatMormonKid this isn't the Beach Boys and this post has been mislabeled since it was first posted. It is the way the song is played which gives it away as being sung by Jan and Dean and not the Beach Boys.
The Little Old Lady From Pasadena (Audio recording here by Jan & Dean) was written by Don Altfeld, Jan Berry & Roger Christian. Roger Christian co-wrote many of Jan & Dean's & The Beach Boys hits songs.

@ClarkeMarek Actually no it is the Beach Boys version. I heard this song on a Billboards CD several years ago. This is the version that was on the CD and the CD did infact say Beach Boys. :)
@SoulKiller7Eternal Here, compare this version to the one in this link, trust me, it's Jan and Dean. Remember to add the youtube.com to the link first.
This is Jan & Dean but Brian Wilson wrote, arranged and produced this recording. Brian also sang the backup. This song is all Brian thus sounding alot like the Beach Boys.
@n0032083 Brian Wilson had nothing to do with the LIttle old lady from Pasadena. It was written By Don Altfeld , Jan put the music to it and arraigned it.

Talk about cross-pollination; Roger Christian (L.A. area "boss jock" and songwriter) co-wrote this song and other for D&J, as well as loads for the BB's. I still think his best effort was "Don't Worry Baby".
My family had several little old ladies in it like this song describes...Great Grandma had a '68 Chevelle Malibu, Grandma had a 1969 Camaro RS, my dads mom had a '70 Chevelle SS. Heck, even grandpa had a '71 Monte Carlo. It's no wonder I grew up to be a gear head.
Um, "Surfin'" was recorded in 1961 in a cheap studio, before the Beach Boys were signed to Capitol Records. Of course it sounds bad. However, the quality their records got better very quickly, starting with "Surfer Girl" in 1963. The production quality is not any worse than the Jan & Dean of that period. "Baby Talk" sounds bad, but that's because it wasn't recorded in the 1960s.
You know something, even though I was born in 1974, I really really love this classic song. Screw 21st century music (ok not all of it). My interests in music go all the way back to Jazz and Blues. Trust me, taking a music appreciation course in American Popular and Jazz really helps you appreciate the classics for along time to come.
Jan and Dean, The Doors, Janis Joplin, early Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Motown, etc. etc.
Animaniacs did a Slappy Squirrel video with this song in the background. It really put this song into perspective and made for a very funny 2 minute+ plus funny cartoon. She upstages the Road Runner in her super start Dodge.
I would have to say the high watermark for toons was definitely in the nineties. Now basic network TV just sucks. Probably everything cartoon is in syndication now on Nick, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, and wherever else on cable. Sad, just sad that Saturday morning cartoons just don't exist.
Kids will never know about sugary cereals, Pop Tarts, Orange Crush, G.I. Joe toys, and whatever else. Or do they already know?
Now now regarding Japanimation, America was able to sell us on Robotech and Voltron back in the eighties. So there was some early Japanimation that was pretty darn good. But yeah, CBS, ABC, NBC, the days of good Saturday mornin' cartoons are looooooonnnggggg goooooonnnnnnee.
yeah I listened to the lyrics again awhile back. Sorry if I mislead anyone regarding the Super Start Dodge. Yes it is Super STOCK and appreciate the your correction to my posting :)
