@droctogonapus1223 The background image goes on the video track below the image that has the chromakey effect applied to it. After you apply the effect, set the chromakey color to match the greenscreen or blue screen background. Then adjust as shown in the above video.
@Infidelamsterdam Chromakey will work with any solid color background. Even white. Green or blue is what most pros use, but any solid color background will work.
@JklStudiosAwesome The preview window could be choppy depending on the format of the source video and speed of your computer. But after rendering the video should be perfect.
How do you get the keying so perfect, when I do it, no matter how good the chroma blur or color correction is, my actor still has a small green outline around him, and there's also annoying flickering black spots everywhere, how would I get rid of this?
Hello Bill, I very recently tried this but for every background that I try all i see is the background only and the original tape, of me, is covered up. I would like to know how to fix this so that I can see both the video and the background. Thank You.
i recently tried this , but the only problem im having is selecting enough of the background colour. when i click on the colour picker , i can only choose a single pixel from the background . im not able to draw the box you made with the colour picker tool. did you hold down a key on the keyboard to do this ? ive tried holding down the left mouse button but it wont draw the box for me to select enough colour. im using movie studio 10 hd , any help or feedback appreciated.
@TheLumberjackass It appears that Movie Studio 10 can only choose a single pixel with the color selection tool, while Movie Studio 9 and Vegas Pro can choose a color area.
Maybe Sony will fix this in the first MS 10 update.
ok bill , thanks for the info . i have movie studio 9 anyways so i'll try that and then use the edited file in ms10 ! hopefully i'll get a proper result :)
Thank you for a great tutorial, easy to follow. I had one little problem though. I had a clip with a car and I couldn't get the rear glass to remain transparent without other parts of the car being transparent. So when I put the background on, the rear glass of the car was black which is not realistic. How can I fix this?
hey i was wondering if theres a certain way for you to make your back rounds move. for instants i have clouds too but they stay in one spot only. is there any way to make them move in sony vegas or do i need to buy moving backrounds and download them in my laptop? please help me, thanks (:
@horselove122 You can use pan & crop to make the backgrounds move. Or you can use Media generator, clouds, and change clouds parameters to cause them to move. Or you can find plenty of free animated backgrounds on the web.
Hey Bill, you have helped me so much with all your vids, now i am done with my movie. How can i burn it onto a dvd though, I want to watch it on a big screen, is there anyway to do that? please help.
Another great tutorial Bill. Could you also tell me how did you adjust the view panels so that the preview and explorer windows are at the bottom of the screen instead of the top as in the default setting for Sony Vegas Movie Studio?
PLEASE HELP!! Alright so, i cannot edit the blur or or chroma keyer! I can give the effect to the video, but i cannot bring up the settings to edit the green screen effects! Please help!
@guerillabill Thank you so much for the help! But i watched the vodeo and did what you said, but i still cannot find it anywhere!!! I even brought sony vegas back to defalt and it still will not bring up the chroma settings.. Please help!!
@vXxNEKOxXv In Sony Movie Studio, use 'render as', to render the project to a video file. Choose the 'wmv' format. Once rendering is complete, upload the .wmv file to YouTube
@Tuberriffic Sony Movie Studio Platinum 9 or Sony Movie Studio HD, will work great with the Kodak zi8.
Start the project by setting the project properties to match video footage from the zi8 (see my YT video 'set movie studio project properties'), then when rendering select .wmv file type, and the default setting (which will match the output to project properties).
The only problem is, with my vegas, the eyedropper will only select one point on the video preview, and won't create a big box like yours did...Is there any way to fix that?
@randomfgm1 In all versions of Vegas and Movie Studio the eyedropper color selection tool will allow you to grab a block of color. Just hold down the mouse key and drag to select the block of color
Why not change the title? On how to make a green screen effect in sony vegas? Since it´s pretty much green screen effect... 5/5 really helped now i don´t need Adobe After Effects all the time.
sooo.....i only see the background.....

What does chroma blur do
thebananaboy53 6 months ago
@thebananaboy53 It slightly blurs the edges around the person in front of the greenscreen. This usually gives better results.

nevermind i got it! thanks!

Ok so when I would record myself in front of one of my purple walls ( Ex girlfriend with no taste, i know..) that should do the trick?
Thanks for responding anyway, I think you're video's are very good!
Infidelamsterdam 7 months ago
@Infidelamsterdam Purple walls will work fine. Just don't wear anything purple, or it too will also be affected by the chromakey.

I still cant get mine to work. It keeps making me transparent. I can't figure out how to splice ONLY MYSELF into a haunted hospitol background -_-

@enpassent00 Make sure there is a solid color background on the original clip.
Put that clip on a video track above the new background clip.
Use the chromakey affect on the original clip. See my YouTube video ' Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio '
