  • Everytime i ask someone if they remember the records they always say no. Well i know of them As i had the privilegde to work with Phil Brown. He is an awesome guy. So much respect for him :) x

  • one of the best bands out of the late 70s. i agree, wish it was '79 and bands like this, and 20/20, the shoes were vogue again. anyone in l.a., Wicks and The Records are playing St. Francis de Sales Festival in Sherman Oaks, CA this April 30th.....check it out!!!!!

  • Just picked this up again on CD. I loved these guys when I was in College. I used to think OASIS was a ripoff of the beatles, but listening to this, I think they ripped off the Records!

I don't know why these guys never made it huge, lots of catchy songs, good music.

  • @daikuone I had all the lp's. Never saw the influence, you are dead on with the OASIS link. Thanks

  • Absolutely, Crashes was a phenomenal record.

  • First record I ever bought! I can't even imagine how I ever got a hold of this band! Second, third, fourth and fifth albums were; The Cars, and Ian Hunter Live. Thanks for the re-membering!

  • Huw Gower!!!!!

  • NUKE 1979

  • Wow! This sure takes mr back!

  • If you google Teenarama by the records, there is a website that will pop up and you can hear the original record. I too have been looking for "Teenarama" and I have never seen it on here.

  • Yeah, where is Teenarama? I LOVED the Records!

  • Great band came out whe I was about 15. Looking for the song Teen-a-rama?

  • Never seen a teenarama clip on here, just on my turntable.

  • @ederod , I only found one recording of Teenarama on the net, it was from a radio broadcast and not very good. Ya, I have this album on vinyl. Good music!

  • The song's called "All Messed up and Ready to Go"

  • I believe Jude Cole is in this band, no? He had top 40 hits in 1990 with Baby It's Tonight and Time for Letting Go.

  • @zachhoran- Jude's not in this particular clip. He would join the following year replacing the left-handed guitarist here, Huw Gower. Both guitarists were great as well as the second lp (with Jude), Crashes!.

  • Will Birch was also a great producer, he produced out single European Summer and the Records sang the harmonies with us. Check it out.

  • trying to be The Cars.

  • No, not trying to be The Cars. Trying to be The Soft Boys.

  • mmmn. good point. yeah, better spotted.

  • Eddie and the Hot Rods get my vote

  • @emr3413 I'm a HUGE Soft Boys fans & this sounds nothing like them! The Records have a sound all their own. A fantastic one, if you ask me....

  • i saw these supporting the jam in 1979,bought their records, always loved affection rejected off their lp

  • Hi, same here saw them support the Jam at the Mountford Hall (University) in Liverpool.Thought they were great live shame the majority of the crowd didn't, they got alot of stick if I remember rightly. I thought they were great.

  • Great to see and hear this! I used to have (but had to sell) an import copy of their first album, complete with EP featuring their cover of The Kinks "See My Friends"-I love the guitar, the whole feeling of that one.

  • any connection to the deadly nightshade?

  • I saw them supporting the Jam too and was so impressed I bought their LP Shades in bed, which I still have. You're right their version of see my friends is very good and it's always hard to top Ray Davies.

  • wow, i can't believe this stuff is on here, I LOVE THE RECORDS, powerpop 101

  • Will Birch was an underrated drummer-not only kept a good beat, but co-wrote almost every song with the singer,John Wicks

  • Hmm. Five Live Kursaal and song called TV-dinner. His drumming gets slower during intro. Funny they released it. It' so bad. Anyway, I dig him. Great musician, great writer.

  • If I'm not mistaken, the lefty guitarist there is Huw Gower, who later played in a psychedelic rock band called Magic Muscle, alongside former Hawkwind members Adrian Shaw and Simon House.

  • Oh YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JW Rules!

  • Did'nt they do the song "Teenarama" ?

  • You are correct, sir. The album "Sades In Bed" was one of the best albums of the late 70s. I promise that I will re-release it when I get my label off the ground.

  • Hurry up with that label, already !!!!!

    :-)

    :-p

  • yes they did do teenerama

  • Saw them at the London Roundhouse in about 1978 supporting the mighty Dave Edmunds and Rockpile. They did indeed do "Teenarama", which should have been a huge hit, plus a great version of "Hearts In Her Eyes" which The Searchers also recorded around the same tiime. Okbass, get that re-relase out!!!!

  • Yes they did.

  • I saw them in '79 supporting The Jam in Newcastle.

  • I'm all messed up and ready to go! YES!

  • Others that were lost: 20/20, Dwight Twilley, The Beat not the English Beat and many others.

  • I wish it were 1979 again, and this kind of music was in vogue. Good memories, thanks so much for posting this.

  • Seems like The Records got lost in the Van Halen, Cars, Pretenders Tom Petty/Heartbreakers push of that time.

Too bad, because they were really good.

  • @Soujurn I'd put the blame on the Knack- they were all over the place by summer 1979 and most of the other powerpop bands were way overshadowed as a result.

  • still got the old lp. thought they were goin' to take off.

  • Yes ! I LOVE the song Drummer man by Tonite. One of my favourites. In fact flip the single over and play "Walk on By"..it possibly even a stronger song, but I love them both. Never seen any vid for Tonite and it's seemingly forgotten these days. I still play "Shades in Bed " by the Records every month or so. Great "jangly" stuff.

  • Oops should have said "Stroll on By" as the title of the B-side. Even have the single in front of me to check.

  • I must have been asleep when I was writing this. Bands name is "Tonight" I always play this record along with "Starry Eyes" and "Girl of my Dreams". Good memories.

  • I played in a band which shared the same management as the Records and saw them a lot around the London music venues at that time. Excellent band. Where are they all now? Another band on the management's books was the "one hit wonder" (and I use the term affectionately) Tonight. Anyone remember their single "Drummer Man"?

  • The song is titled "All Messed Up And Ready To Go" I used to play the Records first two albums daily and nightly.I'm so glad that someone has saved video of this great band for all of us to enjoy.
