  • This is my childhood:) Thanks for posting:)

  • the family guy spoof is better than the wiz movie itself!

  • why do they make fun of this in Family guy? and is there a point for them being black, or is that just the way that the cast is

  • [iminent=FHLkhAgUWfOB] Wonderful!!!

  • I LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON AND I AM GETING THE MOVE TOMAROW I AM EXCITED TO SEE IT FOR THE FRIST TIME THE MUSIC FROM WHAT I HERD AND SEE BITS LOOK INCREDDIBEL.

  • im actually listening to this because i need to sing this in a musical for school

  • my marching band is playing the wizard of oz meats the Wiz it is so fun and this is one of the songs we play

  • we play this song with the orchestra

  • this song makes me fell good

  • this movie was my childhood.

  • 30 years, wow! This was the first live play I ever seen. It was in NYC and my aunt Phyllis took me. It was a great show and day 4me. "Happy Anniversary!" Indeed

  • I'm Dorthy in my show!!!

  • Song begins at 0:53

  • I love the way Michael says, "Hello world!" :)

  • @Moonwalker4Evr It was great. Too bad it came out at the wrong time. Sorry, I love Diana Ross, but felt she was miscast - should have been Stephanie Mills or an unknown.

  • @forestkaat Michael said himself in his autobiography that Stephanie Mills was a great Dorothy. He said every single one of her performances is believable. Diana Ross was a good Dorothy too, but like you said, she was probably miscast. They probably gave her the part because this was a Motown movie and Diana Ross was part of the label.

  • I swear this joint was like Gone With the Wind in the Hood

  • @sda1225 hey, great comparison there! i think you are so right.

  • I love both the Wiz and the Wizard of Oz. I don't look at them as the black and the white versions. One is the old and one is the new. Each has earned the accolades they received. They're both great.

  • cant u

  • i recored the movie today

  • We still have the LP version. It was BET right now

  • We still have the LP version

  • @xenakaii Eh?????? You must be kidding.

  • Bin Laden is dead, WOOOOO *dances*

  • Like if this song reminds you of Family Guy

  • @Wesside007 xD true ;-)

  • RIP Sidney Lumet

  • what part in the musical is being sang

  • This is how I'm feeling today! I don't know know why, but I am!

  • I personally think(while being an obssessive fan of the Wiz,the Wizard of Oz(1939)&WICKED) that the Wiz is the best adaptation of the original story of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.Yes,this Musical/Movie has urban visuals, themes&locations. However the plot, characters,&order of events are truer to the orginal story than most other musical/movie adaptations. While I think all the different adaptations are uniquely great, the Wiz follows the book more accurately with a fresh urban twist&great music.

  • @ASHtheMUSICALgirl13 The most faithful rendition of Baum's original Oz book is a little Canadian show called "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Interestingly, though, it keeps Toto in Kansas (like the stage version of "The Wiz") and Dorothy's farewell to her friends uses adapted dialogue from the movie version of "The Wiz."

  • I love the Wiz!!! i watch it when ever it comes on!

  • The Wiz is a terrible movie. Some of the songs are great, but the visuals and the acting and the direction...yeesh.

And before anyone asks (not that it matters), I'm Black.

  • @GarudaStudio You're entitled to your opinion. Many of us like it, and some of us don't. Everything can't be liked.

  • @Koolazzmike If you say so, but i'm speaking of more than my personal opinion.

  • I used to watch the VHS everyday when I was a kid.

  • I love this song, movie, and play

  • great musical piece!

  • 3:11 is my favorite part! Get down Diana!

  • @black6977 I didn't mean to just point out Diana and Michael. Everyone in this movie was brilliant. Mabel, Richard, Nipsy, Ted, Lena, Theresa, Richard and Stanley were all swell. I don't think anyone would want to take on such an elaborate film. It is a shame that this movie was flop back in its time. There is obviously alot of people on here that can appreciate the movie for what it was.

  • Such a catchy song. I had the third solo in my choir last year :)

  • Great song to swing:D:D

  • I wonder if these so call big shots can remake this movie? I think that it would be to much on a challenge

  • @black6977 We've had enough remakes.

  • @black6977 It would indeed be achallenge, who would play Diana Ross' and Michael's part respectfully?

  • I love this Song! Did a Dance to it

  • if the economy ever goes down....im gonna play this

  • @gamegurl1098 why would celebrate something like that sicko.

  • @LB030377 i meant that ill celebrate when the economy isnt as bad

  • This was (one of the few) highlights of this film Great dancing great song Forgot how much I like it thanks

  • did they get this off family guy????

  • @stonehound1 More like Family Guy got this from them :)

  • @itachimistress i know lol :)

  • I almost got mad. But then I remembered I got this on tape. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!! Im gonna go watch it.

  • i luv this song! ily michael! my frends and i sing this al the time and im in the 8th grade! too bad we're not aloowed to dance on teh tables.

  • Stephanie mills love her versions of the Wiz songs.

  • The movie was boring that is why it did not make it. Excellent music but boring story line for a movie!

  • Will someone please redo this movie please!!!! ive been to plays to see it, but its needs to be re-did in theaters to pay tribute to the legends, Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Ted Ross, Nipsey Russell, and the greatest ever Michael Jackson. Please remake this movie.....

  • @ganier14 If this were to be redone, it needs to be redone right. In this day in age, a update version of this movie would be stereotyping and mockery being that this is a black movie.

  • @Koolazzmike Lol, as long as Tyler Perry doesn't touch it then I'm fine.

  • @LiquidSolidRaiden Yeah, I'd rather Spike Lee redo it.

  • @Koolazzmike Yeah, Spike is great at doing musicals, I loved Passing Strange, and School Daze was pretty cool.

  • The 1970's was such a great time for blacks to take their place in American society after establishing civil rights in the 1960's. Maybe if The Wiz had come out at a different time it would have reached a wider audience like the film The Color Purple did when it premiered. Diana Ross is a living legend and never seems to get the recognition that she has earned after so many decades in show business. Thank you thewizboy for posting this video!

  • WONDERFUL! Thank you Wizboy! You bring me back to my childhood! Please up load the film!

  • music is fantastic, the sets huge...but why all of that trash and abandoned building and prostitutes in OZ its suppose to be pretty and that homeless man coming out of the basement of that torn down building...

  • @slimmy38 - It is an artistic interpretation of the The Wizard of Oz that is set in an inner city urban ghetto. Trash, abandoned building and prostitutes are what people face on a daily basis.

The theme is the same leaving the safety of home, stumbling into and out of trouble, making friends and enemies and finally realizing you found out what you were made of along the way.

  • @thewritepassion racist peice of trash no good punk

  • @thewritepassion Also surrounding oneself with negative people, negative thinkers, etc. Those always putting you down because there life is going nowhere, and they're always telling you, '' you can't win'' etc this was the point of the wiz, surround yourself with positive people. Don't let others tell you what you can't achieve, during this time the emphasis was on African Americans, as the 70's was a time we were pushing forward, cont,

  • @thewritepassion cont, and the time was over for us to be told what box we would fit in etc! This was the ouroise if the Wiz for empowerment, etc, i could go on, but i'm sure you all get the drift.

  • @thewritepassion . No no no it was NOT taken place in the ghetto. dorthy is from Halem New York. Then as Oz, its a fantasy way of NYC. do your research. get it right.

  • @erinmary97 - You might want to do your research. When she got lost /left home -she was in an inner city urban ghetto with the graffiti munchkins, trash, abandoned building and prostitutes. When she got to OZ it was a fantasy of New York.

  • I think this is the best song from the movie

  • Rip M.J x

  • I just caught it on TVone. Love this movie since seeing it when I was a little kid. Barry Gordon was a genius with the symbolism he placed all over the screenplay.

  • @kromen10 wurd i was just watchin lol

  • i Don't Know Why But This Movie Has Always Scared Me......

  • @aeropostalebunny1 I saw this when I was 12, I am now 42. but that scene in the parking garage is still a bit scary.

  • @crysjumar1 :-D It's supposed to be!

  • I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "The Wiz"!! I have adored this movie since I was five, six years old! It's airing tomorrow on the TV One channel as part of the all-day Michael Jackson Thanksgiving event!

  • I just listened to this song on my iPod and boy does it jazz up!!! R.I.P Micheal J.

  • heard this on family guy lol

  • Can you guys feel that? I think.... I think it's a brand new day.... yep. It feels like a brand new day. :]

  • how horrible they're worshipping evellines death. but i would have been happy too

  • @thewizfan78 They're not "worshiping" anything! They are celebrating their freedom from her tyranny, same as the Munchkins celebrated being freed from Evvamean.

  • Lindo!!!

  • can't you feel it gay gay gayyyyyyyyyyyy

  • @Slettenzoon and your point is???

  • @Slettenzoon who ever raised you did a very very poor job

  • I love this song, written by Luther Vandross.....who is playing that great Bass?!?!

  • GREAT GREAT MOVIE! AND THE GREATEST MUSIC!!! LOVE IT! Get right to the soul!

  • GREAT GREAT MOVIE! AND THE GREATEST MUSIC!!! LOVE IT! Get right to the soul!

  • Ya, see there is no comparing those two movies. Why try and compare the white and black OZ's? It only diminishes the both of them some how and they are fantastic in their own right. Ahem... but my favorite is The Wiz.

  • @rebabean "The Wiz" and "fantastic" are two words that should never be used in the same sentence together. It's not a black/white thing; most of the faces behind the camera on "the Wiz" were the same color as those on "The Wizard of Oz".

  • i was dorothy in the wiz

  • @theanglez86 yeah and i'm santa claus

  • @philinator94 I think the lady is referring to a stage production.

  • i love the wiz, black, white who cares- it was a great version of the wizard of oz with some amazing tunes

  • I cant help but smile so much im crying i love the this song!

  • This song has a great dance that goes with it! Jessica Morgan did a dance to it and it was WONDERFUL!!!

  • super nummer ik heb de ffilm ook gezien echt coool

  • Me and my friends thought this film was so good we watched it twice! no really though, we did watch it twice and it's so terrible it nearly actually killed us.

  • I saw a dance to this (Jessica Morgan Dance Force) and they did a greet job! I have loved the song since I have seen the dance!!! 

  • The film was an adaption of the all black stage production. The reason Diana played an older Dorothy was because it was supposed to be that way. The film is an amazing classic and will surely survive the trials of time.

  • The 20th century doesn't compare to now.

  • This is the best music ever! Its like the best tunes of Motown. I played guitar for this play at Chicago State University and it was such a great vibe cuz the songs and music are AWESOME. Best musical ever!!!!

  • this movie is waaaaay better then wizard of oz

  • Thank you for this video and this song!! Great movie!

  • Watching it right now!

  • From the 1978 film

  • is een heel luik liedje moet ook op treden op dit nummer

  • I love the wiz such a cute movie^^)

  • Actingchick... Me too!!! Lol

  • this movie was so great! the music, dancing, acting.. just wonderful!

  • im auditioning for this musical next week!

but its gonna be like an all white production of an all black show... haha

  • have you got Diana Ross singing soon as i get home from this film? It's a firm favourite of mine

  • SOMEBODY ANY BODY WHAT WAS THE VERY FIRST SONG IN THE WIZ WITH THE WHOLE FAMILY? I LOVE THAT SONG. WISH TIMES WERE STILL THAT SIMPLE. EVERYBODY HAD AND KNEW THEIR PART

  • @kekekeyonna The song is "The Feeling We Once Had", which is sung by Aunt Em. There is a clip from the movie - just search for The Wiz - Aunt Em. Several clips from other productions (including one with Stephanie Mills) are also on You Tube.

  • @kekekeyonna is this what feeling gets

  • @ MiKaylaWagner I agree with you!

  • I've always thought the Wiz was severely underrated. I don't see how it could've flopped the way it did. Considering when it came out, I would've thought it'd take the world by storm.

  • i cant believe this film got bad reviews....i think its amazing and i think MJ was amazing as the scarecrow. diana ross was a perfect choice and i dont think it really matters if shes too old to play the part. amazing...i love it! x

  • The music was terrific, which is why the sound track did do well, but the movie flopped b/c it was awkwardly performed & staged. It was too scary for children, too kitchy for adults, with some extravagant stage designs that got lost in their concept and didn't translate to the screen. Diana Ross was too old to play Dorothy, but I really think that they could have gotten away w/ that had the sets and staging not been so bad. Michael Jackson & Lena Horne were amazing.

  • @louyeh She wasn't too old to play this Dorothy; she was supposed to be a grown-up.

  • The film was a flop bc people still had hard feeling against Diana Ross and Flo's death. Many believed she was too old to play Dorothy. They changed it that Dorothy was a teacher. It didn't work unfortunately.

  • I love the way they skip in the movie hehe.

  • Beautifully done !

  • I Love this Film :)

  • The Wiz is better than the original reviews but it is by no means a great movie. Diana Ross is too old to play Dorothy, Michael Jackson is too childlike, and the special effects are a little cheesy. Sidney Lumet was also not the ideal director to do a musical. Still, Nipsy Russell, Ted Ross and Mabel King are terrific. Ease on Down the Road works perfectly, and I love Ross' performance of Home. The reality is that what worked well on the Broadway stage didn't translate that well to the screen.

  • Watched it in the theatre when it came out....It was awesome.

  • ik speel deze musical op school, ik ben oz

    zo vet

I play this musical at school, I'm so fat oz

  • pink martini

  • super goed :):):):):):):):):):):):)

    j.m

  • The 15 people who do not "like" this are morons.

  • Love this song, especially when I wake up :-P.

  • this was on abc not that long ago

  • I love this song. It was one of the first things to cross my mind when Obama won the election.

  • Played in the pit for a live version of this. Fun, fun music.

  • Luv this song(:

  • I was surprised when I heard this movie got bad reviews. I can't say it was b/c of race. My mom didn't like this movie that much because of the trash like scenery and she's black. It's understandable after the glam of the wizard of Oz. Some people may prefer a prettier aesthetic and want to be in a dreamland rather than being reminded of reality. I loved it though. Thanks for the song. :)

  • The cinematography was lacking at some times. And yeah, the setting was made to be grimy and dark, even though Oz is supposed to be a wonderland. "Reality" doesn't have to mean trash and vandalism, but I suppose that's what some people want to associate with. XD

In Wizard of Oz, any of Oz's problems come from evil. In this Oz, they just come from neglect, no self-confidence and no pride in your own neighborhood. lol

  • @ProserpinaFC I would say that Evillene was evil. The name's a bit of a giveaway, you know. ;-)

  • The Wiz is an amazing movie because of the numerous references pertinent to the Black community that were interspersed throughout (peer pressure detering youth from educating themselves, the numbers lady, graffiti as art, can't catch a cab, dressing to "nines" to strut your stuff, etc).

  • where's the gold speedos?????

  • Love this movie

  • Such an inspiring song!!! So UPBEAT!

  • Great movie. Its sad how many of its starshave since passed:

    Richard Pryor

    Nipsey Russell

    Michael Jackson

    Mabel King

    Ted Ross RIP

  • i've seen this movie so many times. its sad how many times. hahahaha. i know every word and line. i just love it so much.

  • Love ! x) ♥

  • Does somebody have a midi-file of the main theme? I can't find it

  • i got this movie at a store and it was the last one and i bought it and i cant stop watching the movie!!!

  • A great song. I love it when they used this song on Family Guy, when the cops left town. All thw black people who were disguised as white people took them off and danced to this song. Also look at the Tin Woodsman at min 2:01, his forearm is made of a Budweiser can. The actors' name is Nipsy Russell. maybe they should call him Tipsy Russell if he was sucking brews down. LOL

  • Oh yeah! I remember that part XD I cracked up at that part because I love The Wiz...

  • This song makes you feel good!

  • A brand new day is waiting!!! Counting of starts till 2010 !!!

  • watch the 2010 121st Tournament of Roses Parade and hear the Pickerington Central Marching Tigers play this song down colorado boulevard along with Kansas' Carry On My Wayward Son.

  • Every day is A brand new day!! So positive

  • i love this movie and watch it regularly but i wish the lighting was not so dark in places

  • I watch this movie every year with my family 36 years old now and i still love it....thank you M.J and All the Cast!!!!!

  • if i'm right, luther vandross wrote the lyrics to this song.

  • @pennteller31 he did and he sang on it to...the opening verse and background vocals

  • I still love this movie!!!

  • I love this movie. I was saddened when I read it got bad reviews. such a great movie.

  • How could it get bad reviews? It has awesome music, awesome dancing and a creative location! I thought this movies was awesome and colorful. It's waaaay better than the Wizard of Oz.
