  • You ended the loop of this song PERFECTLY.

  • Must vanquish evil!

  • Shanoa has sexy hips

  • masterpiece one of the best ost's out there

  • Yup, this is by far the best post-Symphony game. Its challenging at times, and shook up the formula.

  • If Alucard and Shanoa had met, they would be a nice couple, they are for each other.

  • The second best Castlevania ever! Second only to Symphony of the Night, of course.

  • Seriously..people who say "Metroid"vania as to set apart these games from the original castlevania's are just horrible fans of the franchise. Did the Zelda fans set apart Ocarina of Time when that came out? NO! We called it the greatest game of all time and we asked for more of it. Yes the originals are great, they started the franchises, but you must give credit where credit is due and respect the creative decisions made by Konami to make this series more than it ever was on the NES and SNES.

  • @XxArkhamxAsylumxX They say "Metroidvania" because simple-but-solid Metroid predated and outperformed innovative-but-flawed CV 2, because CV 3 immediately ditched the RPG elements, and because in the 16-bit era, Super Metroid became a gold standard for a decade of side-scroller exploration games while CV 4 and 5 were sticking to their linear platformer roots.

Most of the CV games are very good, even great. However, gotta give credit where credit is due. Metroid is the genre-maker.

  • I like how this version is more intense than its arranged counterpart.

And yes: OoE is the best 'vania game on the DS, and possibly the best "Metroid"vania since SoTN.

  • The artwork in this game was fantastic and the music was awesome just like any other Castlevania game in the series. Shanoa is great as the protagonist because she is hot and badass. The combat in the game is really satisfying and collecting all the different types of glyphs and using them is really awesome and fun. A+ Castlevania game and in my opinion the best of the post symphony of the night way of gameplay.

  • @Jack409 I completely agree.

  • Best rpg castlevania ever. Hard as f*** but equally fun, This is the rpg castlevania i more enjoy to play, along with SOTN. The best part is the levels, they are not a random mess as in portrait of ruin, and they remind me a lot of the classic castlevanias. Mansions, forest, catacombs, Towers, it feels a lot like CV 3 (difficulty and map concepts)

  • @yusukeelric It wasn't THAT hard, if you want more of a challenge try curse of darkness, stealing Death's pulse took me quite a few tries.

  • Shanoa ... would be the perfect girlfriend!

  • @roman7vcf possibly

  • As always, Castlevania and its epic soundtracks :)

  • i love you shanoa ....

  • Awesome tune!

  • Can someone make this loop for like 3 hours and 12 minutes.

  • What a lot of people fail to see why SOTN is considered the greatest CV, is that there is nothing wrong with that game. Excellent music, superior gameplay, replay value, beautiful hand drawn castle with the smallest detail possible.

For its time ... sure but the Nintendo DS Castlevania games are superior to SOTN.

  • This is some "run around the prision isle bashing shit in the face with Melio Macir" music right there!

  • I feel like crying right now ... love this masterpiece of music a lot :'D

  • DING DING DING DING!!!!

    me: I better restart this.....

  • I want this song to become a staple of the series, I knew I was in for a hell of a game when I heard this for the first time.

  • this song for castlevania HD plz konami

  • Nyeh ?

  • it's fine i know now google is my friend

  • Google is straight out of Hell!

  • i never played OoE but the song is awesome ! when she played ?

  • @AuronTheMaster BUY IT NOW! One of the best game you can get on a DS but i thought it was kinda hard, especially the crab boss D: i still havent beaten it

  • @chucky666jack666 i don't have a NDS anymore , but i always wanted to buy this game ! seriously i want this game

  • Comment removed

  • What a lot of people fail to see why SOTN is considered the greatest CV, is that there is nothing wrong with that game. Excellent music, superior gameplay, replay value, beautiful hand drawn castle with the smallest detail possible. Come to think of it, its the detail that makes it stand out, especially since the psx was bad ay 2D rendering.

  • @losferword now I could call this out for being the biggest fanboy post ever, but "the psx was bad ay 2D rendering" what? You do realise you've just said something just as retarded as saying "I have a friend whose a great runner but he can't walk" right? 2D is easier to render then 3D genius why would it find it harder

  • @shinkosai Forgot to mention hand drawn 2D rendering.

  • Honestly, this would sound a lot better if it were faster.

  • one of my favorite games! it has an awesome soundtrack!

  • Mike Hanson

  • My back tattoo is of a snail. Unfortunately, that makes it take me forever to get anywhere.

  • This song reminds me of the first level music in megaman x2. It has that epic gogogo hero quest to it.

  • This was the last Castlevania game Michiru Yamane worked on, iirc. Really great song.

  • so this is shanoa's theme?

  • @taki255 No. Her theme is "an empty tome".

  • map screens ! So often the sign of a good game :this, golden axe(sort of), moonstone, DC soul calibur ...mario3 :).....err Tales ofs, Nice music too ;)

  • This game was absolutely amazing. Simply one of, if not the best in the series.

  • O NOES GIANT SKELETON XD

  • I don't know what kind of discussion's going down in here, but it's high time someone changed the subject from it and to this song being awesome.

    ...which it totally is. :)

  • @Raikomaru

My appologies. When I see a fanbrat get all full of himself and attack people, it brings out the worst in me. It took alot for me to avoid being as rude as he was. Especially when the initial attack is against another's opinion.

I do agree, great song. I wouldn't have come here if I didn't like it.

The game's great as well. My only complaint with it is it having a monster mash syndrome. I love variety, but too much makes things a little weird.

  • OoE artstyle is waaaay better than previous anime-artwork.

  • FUCKING. TIN. MEN.

  • The arranged version of this song is sick.

Best song in the game and one of my favorites of the whole series.

  • amazing song ...1:02 - 1:20 best part

  • @NikTheLion i agree :)

  • honestly, i loved SotN when it first hit the PSone, but imho this one is my favourite. maybe it's the atmosphere or the fact, the hero is a really sexy woman :)

  • @ragnarfuck Plus it's challenging, which SotN almost never is.

  • @Barrylocke

SotN was challenging if you played it during its release back in 1997. You were only 7 when it came out. So I highly doubt you played it during it's release. Back when GAMEFAQS and the INTERNET didn't exist. Think before you run your mouth next time kiddo.

  • @Romansteel13 Dude it just his opinion about SOTN. Maybe you should take your own advice...kiddo.

  • @vanishgamer

You were 11 when SOTN came out. I hardly think you, could be a good judge of character of video games at their release. My son is 11, he plays SoTN he still needs me to hold his dick throughout the entire game. Metaphorically speaking of course. Argument aside, I never questioned his opinion or bashed it. I was merely criticizing it from a viewpoint of polemics. Of course you know nothing about anything, because you're an idiot 24 year old who lives with his parents in canada

  • @Romansteel13 My parents are dead my friend, they were taken from me in my early years because of their cancer and I move with my step parents and now I live alone, and I was diagnose with the same cancer last year.

I only made a harmless response to your coment and you responded with such hostile and hate over a simple trival matter as games, it makes me question you as a parent. NO parent would use his son's dick as metaphorically speaking.

Congrats you made youself to be an ass.

  • @vanishgamer

Cry me a river, I could care less if you died in a second.

Play the world's smallest violin. It takes a lot to make me cry.

Go sell your malarkey elsewhere. You aren't a parent, you are in no position to judge others. EVERY PARENT knows that WE do not take ADVICE from dumb 20 year olds who live with their step-parents. When you reach my age kiddo, then we'll have a reasonable discussion. Until then, Fuck off and I hope you die with your cancer-stricken body soon.

  • @Romansteel13 Okay I will have fun in the future friend.

  • @Romansteel13 Okay I will have fun in the future friend.

  • @Romansteel13 Okay I will have fun in the future friend.

  • @vanishgamer

trival? I think you mean trivial, and SOTN is not a trivial game. Any hard-core gamer would know that. SOTN is the godfather of 2d castlevania games. Moreover, you're canadian so I forgive you. Canada is the shitter of north america. Can you name one medicine invented in Canada? One Canadian that has surpassed any American inventor? AND i'm not AMERICAN btw. I'm simply saying Americans are smarter than Canadians.

  • @Romansteel13 Trival as in "meaningless", "a moot point", "it doesn't matter in the end."

Who cares about who is better Canada or American, we are from the same planet. I don't care what country a person is from, you don't judge a person by his/her country you judge them on their own accord.

  • @vanishgamer

Yes, you do judge a person by their country. The Germans were apprehended as sadists and terrible people during 46' after the aftermath of the Holocaust. I understand you are a child and still have no World Experience nor any knowledge of history except of the history of facebook or myspace. It is spelled TRIVIAL not TRIVAL as you frequently assume. Stop trying to pass yourself as an intellectual. Everyone knows you're an idiot, I hope those cancer-cells kick into overdrive.

  • @Romansteel13 You been successifully trolled, Have a nice life and goodbye.

  • @vanishgamer

LOL, sure thing buddy. Successfully doesn't have and I in it. Anyone with an IQ over 10 knows who won this argument. I destroyed you on every level of intelligence. You are an idiot who was born in the 90s' who knows nothing about anything. I see kids like you all the time smoking pot cigarettes at parks. My snot has done more for this earth, than you will ever do your entire life. I hope you know that. You are nothing, just another canadian piece of shit who, no one cares about.

  • @Romansteel13

Wow, never have I thought I would feel bad about being a Castlevania fan. That was until I read your comments. I don't know where to begin with how pathetic you look. It makes me doubt you're as old as you claim. Your immaturity shows a lack of intelligence.

Not sure what else to say. Just that I am repulsed by the fact that I share a common interest with someone like you.

  • @laughingfurry

You're not a castlevania fan honey. You wouldn't know two-shits about castlevania without the ingenious google search engine. I was around long before your troglodyte parents met in a cave in Ancient Siberia and had sex and out of their filth you crawled out. I'm sorry. I'm vastly superior than you in every manner, first of all. Your name is George, a laughable queer name. Everyone I've ever met whose name was George was a complete fraud, and a shill of a person. I rest my case.

  • @Romansteel13

I find it pitiful you continue to insult and condescend. You're a fanbrat with a bruised ego, attacking people because you're all pissy about how the later Castlevanias been nothing more than fanon material. Rather than look like the angry little fanbrat that you are, you instead attack those you perceive as new fans. That, in turn, still shows that you are a petty fanbrat who can't control his nerdrage.

  • @Romansteel13

    Continuing...

You like to think that others don't know what Castlevania is so it makes you feel some sense of accomplishment. Accomplishment in believing you know far more about games than the next guy. You may know everything other fans do, you may not. Doesn't matter to anyone except to you.

So, go on. LIve in your pitiful little world of "I am the best". I feel sorry for your son. Having a father who only knows games and nothing more, how tragic.

  • @laughingfurry

I do know more about Castlevania than you do. I live in Kyoto, Japan. Here in the headquarters of Konami. Something you will never achieve in all of your life on this earth. I rest my case. Enjoy working at your pitiful store for the rest of your life with no hopes of ambition. I'm currently collaborating with Mercury Steam in making the next Castlevania for the consoles that you will surely buy. The ironic part is, you will actually be paying for my salary LOL.

  • @Romansteel13

Ah, the old "I live in Japan and work for a big company" statement. How many fanbrats used that one before? Too bad you can't prove it. No links, no vids, nothing. Same stories, same attempts to boosting a bruised ego.

I actually enjoy the fact that I have a means of support that don't involve being a titwank. Something I don't think you really understand. Fine, live your fantasy, since that's all it is. I'm done with you. Who knows, you may pay me later, if you can.

  • @laughingfurry

You're response is typical. My psychologist tells me to respond with the definition of jealousy =-).

Jealousy is an emotion and typically refers to the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something that the person values, such as a relationship, friendship, or love. Jealousy often consists of a combination of emotions such as anger, sadness, and disgust. It is not to be confused with envy.

    I rest my case.

  • @laughingfurry

I would be bitter too if I worked at a Wal-Mart.

"As for how I make money, I work at a store. I don't make any money AT ALL off of my videos. Though, I may do so with only my original videos."

I actually pity you, I detract all of the mean and hateful statements I said about you. You work in a store, no wonder you're angry all the time. You have to deal with strangers than you give you crap for no reason.

  • @Romansteel13 I have to say this, Romansteel, from the comments I have seen from you, your nothing but an asshole and a troll, stop pissing people off, if somebody says something that offends you, ignore it, don't go off on them and start spewing bullshit out of your mouth.

Also, there is nothing wrong with working at Wal-Mart, its a job and a paycheck.

  • @Romansteel13

You'd think someone who lives in Japan and who works for Konami would have better things to do than to get in comment wars with some random person on Youtube.

  • @Xanedil

What do you expect. All i'm the production and video game lead manager. All I do is supervise other people work. It's quite boring actually. So I tend to go to 4chan, teamliquid, and a bunch of other backwater sites to troll the populace =-).

  • @Romansteel13 By the way, if you are making a new Castlevania game, Prove it, give me the name.

  • @Romansteel13 "I rest my case." Typically when someone says that they then shut the hell up after it and don't continue on with wonderous fantasies that no one believes. At best, if any of your tall tales are true then I picture you as an American exchange student who got an internship as a janitor. Good luck and may one day all your personal fairy tales live up to half of what you currently spout.

  • @Romansteel13 ok, you're right, I first played it when I was 17 or 18, and I had played all the gba ones before that one. But at the least, I still think that SotN is the easiest of the metroidvania style Cv's. I played it between the gba ones and the ds ones, so its not completely just because I had more experience.

  • My favourite Castlevania song. Dramatic. Epic.

  • My favorite OoE song

  • We need Sonia back! Sonia Belmont for the new 2010 Castlevania!

  • Order of Ecclesia ranks in the top 3 Castlevania.

  • @laughingsnake Yeah, they really nailed it with this game. In some aspects this game is even superior to SotN...and now I get flooded with thumbs downs.

  • @newnature not really if you had said that the WHOLE game was superior then yea you would get flooded with thumbs down but thumbs up from me ^_^

  • @newnature in a few ways. its combat is much tighter and its systems much more focused. unfortunately, its level design isn't nearly as good as symphonies; it also lacks artistic coherency that sotn had. ecclesia, graphically speaking, is kind of a mess. there are so many different, clashing art styles here that it just doesn't work on any real level.

i also miss the more in-depth physics of sotn; the relatively shallow and simplistic physics of ooe are kind of boring. thanks, aria~

  • @Erghest Yeah but this is one of the few things that SotN was criticized for. The lack of variety in the game. From start to end you kept moving from the same looking corridor to the next. It was getting kind of tedious after a few hours. This is why I really like order of ecclesia. It combines the exploring aspect of SotN with the variety of older Castlevania games. Yeah, maybe that means that the art style is not as tight as in SotN but still it makes traveling from place to place less tedious

  • @txcforever uhh... if that's a criticism of SoTN it isn't a common one. it's definitely not a valid one, nearly every room is unique in its own capacity. unlike dawn of sorrow, portrait of ruin and even order of ecclesia to a slightly lesser degree, symphony of the night delights in producing landmarks and a large variety of rooms with interesting and unique layouts and tiles - every area in the game has a different approach to level design and visuals.

  • @txcforever which is a far cry from order of ecclesia's approach, which regurgitates the exact same things over and over again (flat halls, squares and boxes) the level design is stagnant and the visual representation is not unique; set-pieces and motifs are reused constantly throughout the game. remember the clocktower room that consists of a sideways U shape, with a "window" on the side where you could see a rapidly changing sky? thats a "setpiece" - and ecclesia reused it, a lot.

  • @newnature

SotN is a very overrated game, incredibly easy to break, one of the weaker soundtracks, difficulty was generally very easy etc.

The later metroidvanias suprass it in just about every way, it's only so popular since it's many people's 'first castlevania'.

  • @PaladinX500 I'll buy most of that. But surely it must get serious credit for innovating some of the most popular aspects of the franchise, namely: an inventory, randomly dropped weapons and armor is staggering quantities, RPG elements that let you play through the game in a variety of ways, using spells, items familiars etc.

The first Castlevania games are classics, no doubt, but SotN is a different game, emphasizing exploration over linear platforming. Overrated, maybe. Still one of the best.

  • @newnature Now let me classify them furthure. The older Castlevania's are the Classic Castlevania's (C1,2,3,4, etc). SotN style games such as the DS games are MetroVania's (Metroid exploration mixed with Castlevania). Games like Curse of Darkness and LoS are their own catigory. This is 2nd in my opinion of the best MetroVania's, SotN the best. They're different gameplay, just as good as original, though some fans hate these cause their not "Castlevania". If you're not one of them, Great, love OE

  • @Hemlocke3 CV2 is arguably the predecessor to the SotN style games. It has most of the elements that you could cram into an 8-bit cart. You sound versed enough to know that but I never read it on the first page of comments so wanted to reiterate that for others who may not know. OoE is my favorite of the DS MetroidVania's. Great mechanics and music. Hard too. I miss harder Castlevania's.

  • @PaladinX500

I agree that it's overrated, however it's still my 3rd favorite, after AoS and PoR. The castle design was really good and atmospheric, and it's one of the strongest point of SotN.

But true, in many aspects the later games surpassed it. Like the Richter mode's controls, which weren't really good in SotN. However PoR's Richter mode is beyond awesome.

  • @newnature IKR but I guess they dont understand :D

  • Comment removed

  • @newnature I give you a thumbs up.

    :)

  • @newnature naw, your right on, to me this is my favorite Castlevania Game (really hard though), but what do i know this is coming from a dude who thought castlevania 64 was one of the best castlevania game ever!

  • @chucky666jack666 This is my 2nd fave, after Super Castlevania IV, and I aint that fond of the "metroid-vania" style, but this game was great!

  • @newnature Thumbs up for you. This, IV and rondo are my favourite cv games.

  • @newnature No thumbs down for you, sir. Thumbs up in fact!

I actually believe this may be my favorite game in the series.

  • @newnature That's the same thing i said. This successfully brought the old and the new styles of Castlevania together in a harmonious blend that is impossible to explain fully in words. The game started you off in a bunch of stages mapped out like how the old games were, but then they threw a Symphony of the Night style castle at the end that just blew anybody's mind when they reached that part of the game. Marvelous game!

  • Probably my favorite area song of the pre-castle part of the game.

  • My favorite song in the game, i sometimes turn my ds on, go to soundtrack, and just leave this going while i do crosswords xD Not to say the game is bad, it's pretty awesome as well. The glyph system was a callback to Circle of the Moon, which i also liked, but this game pulled it off better.

    P.S: 1:02-1:20 is fucking sexy.

  • I love this place. The lighthouse has a nice purple background.

  • SOTN was the best one :D

    Alucard pwns they all :D

  • lol

  • SotN is cool but it doesn't deserve title of best Metroidvania, it had cool soundtrack, fantastic castle and story, but bosses for a Castlevania game we're pathetic (Galamoth without glitching his head and without using thunder absorb item was the only true hard boss) i mean you nearly didn't do anything at bosses like Akomodan, Karasuman (this black flying demon which when hitted in air just get's knockback doing nothing) or that easy giant bat in inverted castle

  • I agree, though I like Olrox and Zombie trio. Sotn has a large variety of gameplay options though, with spells, shield rod spells, weapons and command attacks, subweapons and items. Unfortunately the more interesting weapons come from rare drops

I can think of lots things they could change (boss AI, add maria boss fight, less rare drops, item crash, third hand for items) that would definitively make it the best.

On the other hand, nobody complains about zelda lttp being bad because it's easy.

  • yeah Orlox and Zombie trio are cool but they're still too easy and yeah if they worked a little bit longer at SotN it would be alot better, also you're not the only one who thinks that Lttp is a bit overrated heck i think most of the Zelda games are, sure they're fun and all but always got too high scores on game rankings

  • I agree

  • This is My fafourite song from This Game

    I love Castlevania !!!!!!!!!!! ;]

  • best song in the game if you ask me! :D

  • epic music...

  • for me , this is the best song in the game , its so freaking awesome , i enjoy this one in minera prison island and the lighthouse....i love this game :D!!!

  • Shanoa is the First Canon female char for castlevania.

  • yep, and she's totally awesome

  • She's not. Sypha, Maria, Yoko and Camilla spring to mind. If you mean lead role in a canon game then yes.

  • Well yes, that's what I meant, lead character.

  • Charlotte would like to have a word with you...

  • Let's face it, Jonathan obviously got more of the spotlight.

  • No Charlotte = No entering paintings = Boo hoo for Jonathan.

  • @DizzyPika Charlotte was important. Everyone loves her, me included. :)

  • @DizzyPika hey ¡¡ that's my name too XD

  • the best track from this game...

  • And Shanoa is badass !!!

  • sometimes i don't play the game, I just put headphones and enjoy the music. It's just perfect.

  • yeap i finished this game yesterday and it was awesome! the music was perfect , especially this one stuck in my mind!

  • Are you sure you finished it? Both secret islands included? (If you don't have the magnes glyph you lie >:3)

  • ...Why did i say magnes? I meant that other one, the attack glyph with magnetic blades. I restarted and had it removed since it can let you skip parts of the game like voltacius, but that one. Yes.

  • @burningled (myself) Er, I meant the rapides glyph xD Magnes is at the start of the game.

  • OoE + PoR + SoTN + Judgment + Bloodline's OSTs are the best!

  • sorry but...POR i like ONLY city of haze and the castle keep music xD

and d "search of a spell"

  • O RLY?!?!? How bout' Bloodlines Bequeathed, Crucifix Held Close, Simon's Theme, and the Iron Blue Intention PoR version arrangement? THAT ALBUM KICKS ASSSSSSS

  • is this a really altered "Ruins of Warakia" (aka Beginning)...or am i just retarded

  • You know, I think that is actually is.

  • finally a girl charater that can kick butt

  • don't forget about maria yoko sonia also charlotte

  • Sonia doesn't kick butt!!!!! She just f***ing fell in love Alucard and then can't keep the Belmonts line pure and got retconed! Yoko and Maria and Charlotte aren't single pantragonists (how do you spell it?) after all! So SHANOA KICKS ASSS

  • Actually Charlotte WAS a protagonist in Portrait of Ruin. At least she had decent spells, though I would really brag about them. I agree on Shanoa being the the only solo female character starring in a Castlevania title.

  • I mean SOLO. Charlotte is just secondary protagonist btw. The story doesn't revolve around her. And she can't use spells and knifes stuffs in one girl. I like Shanoa better

  • Yeah. Shanoa is the man!

  • woman.

  • I know! XD

  • not true, Sonia Belmont was the first solo female in Castlevania Adventure (Game boy)

  • Yes, but Castlevania Adventure/Legend has been erased from the official timeline. So she actually doesn't exist.

  • whatever but Sonia Belmont was the first female character in Castlevania, how could she be erased, she is uummmm Trevor or Simon's mother, i don't remember, without her either Trevor or Simon would have not existed

  • what platform is the castlevania adventure?

  • not a platform, a portable system, Gameboy, Google it

  • @Michelle2815CV What about Samus Aran?
