teaching creationisn along with science in school reminds me of the butter vs. margerine debate. margerine(creationism) is always making the claim it taste just like butter (science) but you never hear butter claiming it taste like margerine.
Regardless of what side I'm on in this argument, it would be very hard to have respect for the maker of this video when he turns to the immature way of arguing by calling the opposers "idiots" and mocks them with that caveman slide.. If you want to be taken seriously with your debate do it the adult way.
@shwanks9 "iv been getting a lot of channel comments telling me im this horrible person because i bash scumbag pagans..."stupid athiests have pissed me off enough bashing my God so much that im far past being nice about it. " Uh huh. Yeah. Shove off, fundie prick
I actualy go to a chaotholic school in australia and,Lol You Poor yanks have got it bad, they teach both at our CATHOLIC school and,You's are Waring over them in a Goverment school....Lol
ALso DARWIN FTW,we even have a city named after him
@cataback101 you CAN"T teach anything that has to do with the supernatural in science...there is no way to devise a scientific experiment to prove or disprove the existence of the supernatural ... so called creationism requires belief in the supernatural... watch out for those priests mate
People tend to forget about how many holes there are in the Theory in Evolution, especially the very first step. look at that and then learn something about the atmosphere. P.S im neutral in this situation
How many holes are there ? please tell me because I have yet to see any in this true and tested theory.
One thing I perhaps heard was that darwin's theory that evolution only occurs very slowly is not true since selective breeding can do so in the blink of an eye, but that is basically it.
The religious people of the Texas school school board have hurt this school education system. I have been following it for several months and have grow my distressed as time has went on. Take large amounts of the civil rights movement, Thomas Jefferson so they won't hear about the separation of church and state. teaching that the country was founded on Christian values. History classes around the US will probable will adopt the new Texas history book. There goes history classes for 10 year.
@Christheatheist1 well hopefully when the history textbook comes up for review in 2020 they will fix the problem. Of course by that time i hope to be over in Europe or Japan. The already have their Abstinence Only school programs in just about every school i been too.(moved around a lot during grades 5-12) I hate to tell them this but if teens what to f*ck they will, you have a choose inform them about stds and condoms so they care about protection or don't.
@Christheatheist1 year of high school was pregnant Abstinence Only doesn't work. plain and simple. Information is power, once your control what people learn at early ages(when they believe everything they are told) this is how religion pushed into kids. Anyways back to topic. Start with combined(b+g) sex ed classes for basic information then slip the group by gender and give them some details about std, condoms, pregnence. etc..etc
As a Biology teacher, I can assure everyone who is reading this post that religion will NEVER enter my classroom. Many students try to interject their Theist dogma but I remind them of our first lecture when they entered my classroom. ie. Science has no room for conjecture, opinion or bias. That is why we trust it's methods to be accurate. If anyone has something to add to the curriculum, it must satisfy the Scientific Method. Otherwise, leave it in the hallway.
Just because you desire something doesn't make it reality. You can believe anything you want, but that doesn't make it true. Please religious fanatics stay out of the classrooms.
yo thank you. I thought it might have been the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean but with the number of scores out there it is hard to tell sometimes.
Dayum ! Really good video. Love the choice of pictures. And the truth thou speaketh !
And once again you showed me how lucky I am not to live in the US :> In 7th grade (age 13) I was allowed to deselect religious education at school over here and I was by far not the only one who did so. No religious idiocy has EVER been presented to me/us in biology. We would have laughed the teacher out of the classroom and he would've had his ass fired instantly if he had done so :> Secular Europe ftw ! :>
the idea that this country was founded on christianity is a stupid, ignorant, vague, and meaningless excuse for religion to try to force their beliefs into government. its pathetic.
I really don't know what more the believers want. There are plenty of private schools which teach religion as part of the curriculum, and are seen as perfectly valid in the eyes of the state. I should know, I graduated from one.
I am a christian, and I in no way ever want religion of any sort taught in a science class. I can only understand religion taught in schools if it's a sociology class or has to do with a world culture, and it's very specifically about a people. I don't particularly understand why "separation of church and state" is so very difficult for people to understand.
@abbynormal0ne - THANK YOU. I'm a Christian and I feel the same way. And the separation of church and state actually *protects* religion (I did a video on that, BTW).
The main problem with education in the USA stems from the fact that the education is so decentralized.
There is effectively no national standards. This makes it possible for local school boards to determine the content and standards.
Most other countries in the western world have national standards and practices that control all of education for all the communities within the country.
Local school boards in the USA have all the power.
Let them teach creationism in science classes - but only if they allow scientists to come and teach actual science in church at sundays. Only when they allow for that consider creationism to be worthy of being mentioned in a science class... ;)
I have no problem with religion in the classroom as long as all it is part of the "social studies" curriculum, raising awareness of the many different world views that exist within humanity. Not in a science class.
@anonymous0s0egion - Yes! Start by advertising in your local paper. Try asking the local library for some meeting space. Bring a coffee pot and write to the Richard Dawkins Foundation for leaflets and promotional materials. Then you can plan rallies and visits to your local congressional meetings. Have a whip-round to buy a billboard and contact any of your local atheist organizations for support.
I'll give it a shot I'm not doing anything better with life, I'd have to probably start with the library asking if I could rent a room each saturday or something for two hours.
I got to figure out a way to get the money for newspaper adverts but I'll work on networking in my area first.
We've got 8 churches in my 2 by 1.5 mile town no reason to not have an atheist meetup around here for those of us who are and cannot drive 35 miles to the nearest group.
As far as networking goes, I'm a loner I'd rather stay away from people, but I can put aside my preferences to do something for those of us who need something like this in my area.
How could I go about finding fellow atheists who'd be interested in this project, outside of adverts in the paper.
would you think myspace or facebook would be a viable means of making acquaintances, and trying to put this together?

@PlayfulGibbon - Well, the law is clearly spelled out. Individual school boards shouldn't be able to act as a law unto themselves.

I agree.
The Constitution also assures that state and local powers are protected as well. Part of the requirement to get states to join the Union.
A book you would find interesting is "Evolution vs Creationism" 2nd edition by Eugenie Scott of the NCSE.
An excellent book detailing the battle between Science and Creationism in the USA.
