when looking at religions Catholicism believes that gays are born that way which puts it firmly in the moderate category of religions. it says gay sex, like straight sex (almost every every time), is just self indulgence. so i think that putting Catholicism as the chief villain (evil catholic schoolgirls in film) against homosexuals in this country is wrong, when we live in an evangelical protestant country where people believe it is a "choice" and that "the gays" need to be (and can be) cured.
Here is a quick way to shoot down the argument that being gay is a choice: When did you choose to be straight? Who helped you in that choice? Did you talk to your parents before you decided which gender to love? Here is another thought: Why would you choose to be someone who is constantly taunted, tormented, and threatened? LGBT people are far more likely to runaway or commit suicide, why would you choose to suffer like that?
What you don't seem to understand, kind sir, is that being gay isn't a choice.
Who in their right mind would choose a lifestyle that would cause danger to them, cause their families to possibly disown them, and make their life harder?
You are saying that people are not born gay? Are you saying that all people are born straight? How do you prove this? Do you have proof that all people are born straight? We both know you don't.
winterfootsteps: Millions and millions, years and years have been spent looking for the gay gene. Guess what? They didn't find it. Love is a choice. Acting out sexually is a choice. Gays always ask rhetorically, "Oh, when did you decide you were going to be straight?" People decide what they're going to do first. Labeling comes afterward to justify their behavior. Have you ever a met a former black person? No. Former gay person. Yes. It's not what I know that counts. It's what is so that counts.
You are ignorant to this issue, and I kind of feel sorry for you because you are missing out on knowing some amazing people by judging them before actually getting to know them.
You are very interested in what happens behind the bedroom doors of strangers, that is a little weird. How does their homosexual relationships hurt you or marriage in general?
Again, live your life the way you want and let the rest of us do the same.
Again, being gay isn't a choice. It's something you are born with whether you want to admit it or not. Some choose not to act on their attraction to those of the same gender, but that doesn't mean they aren't still gay. That just means they are living in denial and spending a lot of time being someone they are not.
Good luck in life, tonestar. You certainly have a lot of growing up to do. Done with you now.
What you are failing to see is that you are in the wrong here, and one day I hope you have the capacity and heart to realize that. You are missing out on loving your fellow man instead of passing judgment on them.
I pity you. I really, really do.
It's sad that you think people have made assumptions about you when *you* are the one making assumptions about an entire group of people you have never met. It's wrong, it's sick, and quite pathetic. Good luck.
winterfootsteps: Who the hell made you their spokesperson. You have to hide behind a fictitious segment of society. Learn to speak for yourself. I didn't say I think people make assumptions about me. I said YOU made assumptions about me. There's a reason why you respond like that. It's easier for you to deflect statements directed to you. Like I said, you got issues. You presume I know nothing about gays, and I fear them or hate them. I don't need friends like brianh406. You do.
When did I claim to be a spokesperson? Please point that out to me.
What I have done is go to YouTube, watch a video, share my opinion on this video, and get into a debate with a moron who lacks the ability to empathize with other human beings.
If standing up for the basic human rights of my fellow human beings is an "issue" then I am proud to agree with you.
I have issue with everyone in the world not getting the same civil rights as I do. If you don't consider than an important part of your current value system, then you should really study that value system.
I don't give a flying rat's ass what you think about me.
At all.
My opinion of you is so low that just thinking about you makes me giggle. Grow a brain, tonestar.
Lastly, tonestar, let me call you out for what you really are. A lonely internet troll who probably just wants to cause fights and drama because he has nothing better to do in his real life.
Is it because you need attention? Do you have friends that don't consist of complete strangers on facebook and myspace? Is any attention good attention in your book?
winterfootsteps: "...you think people have made assumptions about you." Are you speaking for people who may have made assumptions about me? I said YOU, not somebody made assumptions about me. You obviously care a great deal about what I think about you, hence your serial, near hysterical responses. You should probably straighten your own life out before saving every stray queer you come across. It keeps you from focusing on your problems doesn't it?
winterfootsteps: Ha ha ha! My life, I assure you my life is interesting, full, dynamic, and filled with great people, friends and family. Tonight, I'm playing a corporate music gig (orig music) with my band for a big company party, one of the nations largest Yoga chains, and meeting with great people, getting paid good money, and I have a wonderful girlfriend of 4 years, a wonderful son, also a musician and family. My friends are Christians, musicians, surfers and artists. My life is blessed.
What would your reaction be if he ever told you he was gay? What would you do? Turn your back on him because that is what you think God would want you to do?
Very interested in this reply, although I sincerely doubt you are all the things you say you are. You like attention way too much, and you seem to spend a hell of a lot of time online for someone with so much going on in his life. We all know people never EVER lie on the internet.
I have better things to do than continue this pointless banter with you. My responses haven't been "hysterical." Actually, quite the opposite. I have been laughing my ass off at you.
The only reason I have kept on with you this long is because I work from home and have found you to be mildly amusing. Not anymore.
Good luck with your "wonderful" life. I hope you gain the ability to empathize and care for people at some point.
winterfootsteps: You're such a phony. You present yourself as some peace, love and good happiness soul, with such compassion, concern and good will for all, yet cackle and boastfully, declare with a smirk your delight in your own pettiness, amusement in "toying" with me. Your own admission exposes you for the prideful, hypocrite you are.
Yet you muster all your phony sincerity to "truly" take pity on me, and sincerely "hope I gain compassion for people."
winterfootsteps: Unlike you I don't need to exaggerate to avoid the truth. Nice way to deflect the unvarnished truth of my statement. Instead of directly addressing my claim that you're a hypocrite you make up bullshit about eating babies, and tossing cats, etc. Talk about classic! Not liking that "call you out" game anymore huh? When my assessment of you is 100% spot-on, it's always the right time to say it. If it happens to be the last word, so fucking be it! Your phonier still.
Yes, I am so phony. I suck. Bad. I am a horrible excuse for a human being. Why am I even alive? I should just hop in my car and drive off a cliff somewhere.
Would that make you feel better about yourself, too?
You seem to really enjoy pointing out faults in people. As a matter of fact, it seems to be your biggest hobby. As long as you are enjoying yourself. It would really start to make me feel bad after a while, but you seem to get off on it.
winterfootsteps: While being phony is bad and does suck, you're certainly not a poor excuse for a human being. A little melodramatic? Yes. Horrible human being, no. I don't derive joy from pointing out you have a frustrating problem of falsely portraying yourself. Is you question, have I had psychological counseling. Yes I have. Psychiatric? No.
Oh tonestar, how I look forward to getting insights from your interesting and quite peculiar mind.
What would I do without you? I am ever so relieved that you don't think I am horrible. I was ready to pack up my laptop and jump of a local bridge, but luckily I read your reply in time.
Wanna get married? Oh wait, I refuse to do that until everyone has the same rights as I do. It's called equal rights for a reason. Oh, and the fact that I can't stand you is another reason.
You amaze me. Your ability to repeat the same pattern of phony melodrama in each response is uncanny. Like a nervous facial tick. You turn on the exaggeration to shield yourself from being real. When you surround yourself with caliber people like the bi-polar, clinically depressed, brianh406 you insulate yourself from people who will note your character deficits. Me, I can tell when I'm in the company of damaged goods. That's why you can't stand me.
Yes, it is my goal in life to amaze you. To take your breath away. To soothe you with my personality quirks and entertain you with my responses.
After all, you clearly know everything and are always right.
Where would the world be without you? Who would we turn to for prime examples of hate and bigotry? It's you, tonestar, that makes me want to get out of bed in the morning just to see what new form of judgment you have for me or any other person who happens to have disagree with you.
Oh, it's true that I told you I didn't want to speak with you any longer... but alas, I have told many friends about your ignorant posts on this video and they are just as entertained by it as I used to be.
For them, my friends, people who I love dearly even though we disagree on politics, religion, and countless other things, I boldly stand back on my stage and show the world what an ass you can be. Ah, the fascination will die off soon, I'm sure. I couldn't take you for long. Doubt they can.
Winterfootsteps: "My life, my friends" - Vol. I. Very touching. Thanks for sharing. More exaggeration and deflecting. How odd; I don't mention your posts to my friends or loved ones. I'm sorry you need your friends to validate you in this time of feeling so attacked. It's your subconscious mind telling you there's truth to what I say and you need reassurance. Sad.
Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the ground in the morning, Satan shudders and says, "oh shit, he's awake!"
winterfootsteps: Oh, thanks for portraying yourself as so cosmopolitan, and urbane; you can actually have friends that love you despite disagreeing on so many things. Wow, your so chill. I never met anybody like you! So hip and progressive. And tolerant too. Everybody wants to be like you. Look at her, there she goes, it's winterfootsteps!
Everyone doesn't want to be like me, they want to be like *you*. You clearly have all the answers. You know who is right, who is wrong, who is good, who is bad, who stole candybars from convenience stores as children, who will burn in Hell and who will live in Heaven forever.
Tell me, tonestar, what is your life story? How can I be more like you? What is it that compels you to be how you are? That way I can stay away from it.
winterfootsteps: No, I think you've shown yourself to be so "real" and open to differernt perspectives, and have shown yourself to be entirely loveable despite your "differences" with all your lovely friends. Why, who can top that? You greatly overstate who and what I'm about, but then you know that. How can you be more like me? First, don't pretend to be wittier or smarter than you are. And seek help for your problems.
winterfootsteps: What compels me to be how I am? I would say a desire for truth, a need to be creative, a need to seek knowledge and understanding of this life and a relationship with Jesus. Coincidentally, these are all things you already stay away from.
As for you: to lean on your own understanding to get through this life, how scary is that? If this is all there is, ???????????????????????
winterfootsteps: You've obviously made a bundle of assumptions about me. Your comment about the bedrooms of strangers is galling really. You are the deeply scarred shopping cart full of hang ups. The only males you can deal with are gay. Brianh406 is unstable and highly emotional wounded person with a hideous passive/aggressive tendency. I'm glad you social misfits found each other. As Good As it Gets Pt II. I'm weeping. Two emotional trainwrecks on a head on course.
I am waiting for the other Prop 8 musical to come out, the one with angry gay activists storming restaurants and Mormon temples, hectoring elderly straight people over their signs, and hounding donors large and small until they pay off their tormentors in the name of tolerance and equality.
First, not all activists in the groups you are describing were gay. I am a straight woman, and I marched n Salt Lake City in October of that year.
Secondly, I agree that storming restaurants and so-on is wrong and defeats the purpose getting people to respect your thoughts and rights.
Just wanted to make it clear that not all people who were outraged by the dumb idea that anyone should be able to vote about basic human rights did the things you speak of.
winterfootsteps: What you call a "dumb idea" is a protected privilege under the California Constitution. And has been since 1911.
I realize many of the people who did the things I spoke of are radical, militant gay/activists.
In any event, the notion of a gender neutral society is as illogical as it is ill-advised. It is a wholesale dismissal of the true, God-given differences between men and women. Oddly, it is militant feminism personified. This "strap-on" mentality serves neither gender.
winterfootsteps: So it appears you've broken the bindings of Mormonism. Good for you. The bitterness, baggage, and resentment you still harbor hardly means you're free at last. Perhaps you've traded one prison for another. It certainly seems too soon to declare yourself happy.
Black and Reilly are magnificent actors. However, their actual "role" is two straight guys who know who butters their bread in Hollywood. I could shred the Prop 8. video like your Mormon video.
You are so worked up over this that it makes me giggle.
Look, here is the thing. People all over the country (and WORLD) were blown away at the thought that people should be able to VOTE on the civil rights of a group of people.
You can type and type away at your keyboard and get angry all you want... that doesn't make you right.
Picking and choosing who gets the right to marry and be with the person they love is ridiculous. One day you might get that.
How would you feel if the religious groups decided that you shouldn't be with the person you love because it doesn't agree with their religious values?
Should people be able to vote on whether or not you get to get married and have kids? Do you have the ability to place yourself in the position of the other side? Do you have any empathy about what people were saying about who they were?
Everyone has the right to be happy, and this is the United Sates. Where is the freedom? Hmmm?
Years from now other generations will look back at the Proposition 8 battle and say, "I can't believe a group of people were not getting the same rights as others!"
Just like how we look back on the civil rights era and cringe at the thought of blacks having to sit in the back of a bus or drink from another water fountain.
Gay marriage doesn't hurt you or anyone else out there. Live your own life and stop telling other people how to live theirs! Damn, I wrote an entire novel
The civil rights comparison is trite and frankly insulting to most African Americans. Have you ever met a former black person? No. Former gays? Yes. Gay marriage offends my religious beliefs, deeply, it's offensive emotionally, spiritually and represents a breakdown of the moral fabric of this country. It cheapens and degrades the institution of marriage thousands of years old.
I assure you from the bottom of my fun-loving heart, I'm neither worked up or angry in the slightest. Because I believe I understand this issue more fully than you, I have great solace and comfort in my position. So if highlighting my "apparent" anger helps your argument, enjoy. Because I went to law school and earned my law degree in California I know how the initiative process can work to amend the constitution there. It's a guaranteed right. So, I wasn't blown away.
Soo...on the choice thing...When did you straight people out there choose to be straight? Just wondering. I cant remember when I chose to be gay,but I am.
if ur going to refere ur def against gay marriage to the bible find somewhere it directly forbids gay marriage in that context and maybe ppl might listen to ur conservative prick rebuclican shallow dimiscritave asses!!!
its a bigger issue than gay marriage ppl are saying that gays should be shunned completely from society in general bc o fhte bible and this is right if u allow slavery even allow rapist to marry then why is this an issue this is from the bible ... the greates things god gave us are faith hope and LOVE thats it theres no fine print...*only between men and women its just love in general and if u love someone u should be able to get married someone give me the verse that says homos cant marry
Marraige is a sacred institution that has never and should never change. This is why in America, women are considered property, blacks can't marry whites, and my father has 16 wives.
I have never seen so much stupidity in my life. These deranged assholes actually think people are going to respond favorably to this fucking bullshit. There is no being born gay you stupid dumbfucks.
Sorry queer bitch, I am not gay so you cannot fuck me. Go fuck one of your gay friends. Suck their dick after it has been rammed up your asshole OK? I am sure you would like that. Be sure to suck it afterward so you can taste some of your own shit. Maybe the two of you can have a golden piss fest to top off the evening. Please be sure to tell him how much you love him and want to marry him.
for all the straight people. when did u choose to be straight and not gay? u didnt u were born straight. they were born gay. u didnt make the choice neither did they
when you look at the Bible you can see many rules that were created. These rules were established as sin not because they are against God but because they had the potential to cause immediate harm to an individual or community:
1) Shellfish - could give you a disease that there was no cure for
2) Pork - see above
3) Women's rituatls after her period - Being exposed to another persons inner fluids (as we still know today) can be harmful. Women are also prone to vaginal infection.
4) Homosexuality - Birth rates were high but so was infant and child death. For a person to be homosexual there was a chance to the community shrinking and dieing out.
Today, we do not have the same issues that were in the past. We have health care systems and technologies that were not around then. Women have better ways of taking care of their feminine needs. The world is over populated.
If you want to get philisophical think about this:
As our world over populates and we destroy the planet there is actual sense in the idea that homosexuality is God's way of protecting His people. Now, homosexuality is necessary as a population control as well as a way to care for the millions of children that straight couples will not take care of all over the world.
Homosexuality is a product of evolution. Take the example of frogs in Africa that are able to change genders to keepthe species. Is it not possible for humans too?
Quick questions for you guys. Is homosexuality a disease, evolution gone bad, or a normal thing in nature. For that matter, are people really purely gay? Is that even possible?
Quick questions for you guys. Is homosexuality a disease, evolution gone bad, or a normal thing in nature. For that matter, are people really purely gay? Is that even possible?
I have no doubt that we will persevere and ultimately be allowed to marry whomever we love. It is important to keep raising our voices and our signs and to keep talking to people.
Where do you draw the line on marrying whomever one loves? Obviously one cannot be allowed to marry WHOMEVER he/she loves. A 25 year old cannot marry a 10 year old and a woman cannot have 12 legal husbands, no matter how much she claims to love all of them. Where do you draw the line? Dont say it doesnt matter because obviously you do think it matters where the lines are drawn when those lines do not include same sex relationships. Thanks for your time. I would love to hear your opinion.
Thats the thing, where do we draw the line? I would never want to see anyone hurt/harmed for being Gay or different in any way, but this is not about hurting anyone, it's about following the letter of the law.
Interesting that you would put words in my mouth and assume I would say it doesn't matter. Interesting, too, that you assume that allowing two people of the same sex who love one another to marry means I would now have to support marriage of any kind. Thanks for pointing out that I chose my words poorly. I should have said "person they love." This is America. It was founded on the idea that all men are created equal and entitled to "Life. Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
(-1-)Hello there. I would like to give a point. Let's say: It's all based on RESPECT, and responsibility. Take a look at the examples you gave. It is not sure the 10-year-old did think clearly about the marriage thing.(to be clear, you may wanna ask the 10-year-old whether he/she's regret or not. Some culture did allow men to do so. and women from those cultures had some to say:( )
(-2-)Besides, if they have children Can this 10-year-old takes care of his/her daughter or son? I will give it a question mark because of his/her maturation(of mind, attitudes toward life, etc) As monogamy, I believe there are many discussion in colleges, institutions, and you and your friends;) Here we can do little practice: imagine your girlfriend/boyfriend have other lover(s) behind you. How do you feel?
In a third-person-perspective, I may be sorry or be OK(if you feel it's OK) according to your feeling. after all, he's/she's YOUR lover, not mine. So to the Lesbian/Gay merriage. We are now have thousands of millions of lesbians and gays stand out there. It's time for we to accept them, don't we?
(-4-)As for the character of law and society, should be under this "respect and responsibility" proposition. But now prop.8(and those who fight against to)homosexual people, do they follow the "respect" concept? I think they are even DENIED their existence!
Those who believe being gay is a choice surely must be closeted gays, or at least bisexual. I can't imagine ever choosing to be gay because I have absolutely no attraction to other men. Frankly, I can't imagine why all women aren't lesbians because women are clearly the more attractive of the sexes.
It's premature to even think about gay marriage when we as a society haven't even concluded whether or not homosexuality is a choice or not. It's a BEHAVIOR people, not a race. Quit with the repetitive propaganda about "civil rights," "hatred," Bullshi-. You comparing yourselves to the hell that blacks went through is LAUGHABLE. Race isn't a CHOICE. But keep telling yer lies ya fagooos. "equality for all" Yes, human rights for polygamists, human rights for incest. Sibling marriage in Sweden
What a bunch of whining losers you all are:) It makes me smile to see the religious zealots getting all bent out of shape over something not remotely involving them. You dont want anyone in your bedroom criticizing you for sticking to the missionary position but you want to be in everyone else's room? LAME! How about every one of you....gay and straight, get a life and do actual work at your job rather than wasting your time on here b* tching.
"Who gave the greatest money and support to go against prop 8 should get the greatest criticism. "
more money was spent from out of state by those that were opposed to Prop 8. And more money was spent overall by those opposed to Prop 8.
They had their chance, a very good chance to get this right, but the people don't want it. Even if they do a million plays and musicals, it won't change the will of the people, and they can't change our churches to redefine marriage.
and most of those people were mormons. seems you folks really want to suck up to the james dobson crowd, don't you. after all, they don't think that you are REAL christians.2010 isn't far off, neither is 2012.and you want to see mitty in the white house.and the furthest your churches religious-political power goes is utah, maybe idaho.
"suck up to the james dobson crowd, don't you. after all, they don't think that you are REAL christians.2010 isn't far off, neither is 2012.and you want to see mitty in the white house"
you think that's what this is all about? That's naive!
I don't care what other christians think, they have made a choice to believe a certain intepretation of the bible, fine. And as for politics and trying to win favor? This had nothing to do with that! Just trying to do the right thing, that's all.
Ya know what's funny? It was the Black and Latino vote that passed this for the most part. Most of these sore losers are putting the blame on what they think is the "typical white Christian". Even your new President supports marriage between a man and a woman.
Wow, this has got to be the most racist statement of the day. I hope you realize that NOT ALL "BLACKS" ARE DRUG-DEALERS, "BABY-DADDY'S," AND BELIEVE IN A "STUPID FAITH." I guess your a Republican woman in her early to mid 20's with a basic mistrust and hatred of black people due to all the videos of them on MTV, and of what you hear on Fox news. But in reality, you wouldn't know, as you live in a gated community, and have actually never seen a black person in your life, except your nightmares.
its so true what they say about the referendum. in 5th grade (aka, this is not a hard concept) we were divided into 4 groups and named. a group name was pulled out of a hat and that group would not have to do homework the rest of the year, but, as a democracy, we had the right to call for a new drawing. Twenty damn minutes and countless redraws until everyone understood the concept of the government's duty to protect the minorities.
Nope. Not going to appologize. You did compare gays to hitler, not directlym, but still. Misguided sympathy for gays ? They are treated like garbage to the point were they kill themselves ? Should I just not care about young teenagers feeling so left out of soicity that they feel they must take their own lifes, in order for them to finnaly feel some peace ? Shallow ???? You judge people for something that you clearly do not understand. You have no idea the stuggle that gay people go through.
Also, on the subject of gay marriage, I think that as long as straight people who barely know each other can get married at a drive thru window, we shouldn't be able to tell committed, loving gay couples that they can't get married. The idea about the sanctity of marriage in popular culture is ridiculous
True that! I'm offended that people won't let gays that have been together for 50+ years are overlooked in favor of couples that are drunk at the drive-through window in Vegas.
"we shouldn't be able to tell committed, loving gay couples that they can't get married."
marriage is a definition.
you wanna say the sky is green, ok, you can say that, but don't tell me to say that. its nonsense to me.
and besides, changing the definition of marriage means changing the definition of sin for those that have sex and can't get married. YES, we all believe that homosexual sex is sin and always will be. Changing marriage changes that, and it can't be changed! Get it?
Please don't speak to me like I'm an idiot just because I don't believe in a book that was written 2000 years ago by MEN, not GOD. I believe that God would rather have a happy same sex couple be married than an abusive straight couple that end up resenting each other.
"Please don't speak to me like I'm an idiot just because I don't believe in a book that was written 2000 years ago by MEN, not GOD."
I didn't. But while were at it, please don't always compare marriage to something cheap, like a drive thru window. Some people may have cheapened it, and as long as you too think of it in those terms, it is no wonder that you wouldn't hesitate to change the definition of it.
I hold it more sacred than being politically expedient.
They said that God was on their side, that God hated black people. Now that is looked at like an abomination. Slavery, racial prejudice is no longer socially acceptable. The history of the world moves in cycles, ups and downs in what culture seems to be apporpiate but slowly and permantly society continues to become more accepting.
Homosexuality may be a choice but its their choice. I choose to believe in my God, and my neighbors choose to believe in Buddhism. I doubt God will condem them when they have sacrificed so much every year to help others. A Christian chooses to be a Christian, and a Muslim chooses to be a Muslim. In the last two decades we have seen a change in our society. Caucasian christians told Black christians that they weren't equal because of their skin tone.
I'm no philosopher, and I'm definately not a genius but I find it hard to believe God promotes hate, I may be wrong. Maybe God is a being who commands our world with a subjective and biased point of view, something associated with mortal men who are prone to corruption and sin. But isn't God above such hinderences, he is the father of all men, and as such does not think the way we do. There is not a single person alive who has the right to tell me or anyone else what God wants.
Well there's no such things as the stigmatic word "homophobic" (its usually just called "normal") so whats yer point. Dude if some1 truly felt in their heart that they were gay, having sex with the opposite sex because of societal pressure would go against who they are & what they stand for. Why not just stay a virgin, than have sex with a gender they consider 'disgusting?' It shows sexual confusion to compromise sexual orientation to please exterior pressures. Or maybe all gays are bisexual?
"Homophobic" is Latin for "Fear of Man." However, in Popular ussage, it has become to mean "Homosexualaphobia." Quiet a mouthful, is it not? Understand that you must think before you speak, or in this case type. You make statements with baseless and frankily idiotic "facts."
People who say that being gay is a choice have never been friends with a gay person. Fact. And if you have, I want you to look them right in the eye and tell them that you don't think they deserve the same rights as you.
FYI I was never abused- I'm pretty happy, so how's that for "social conditioning"? I didn't know any LGBT folk growing up.
Religion is much more a choice than homosexuality, so why don't you suck it up for a change?
Why is it always an issue of what it says in the Bible?
I mean, several million non-Christians get married. What do you propose to do about that?
So two Christian gays can't get married under God, but two non-Christian straight people can because at least the Bible says that a man and a woman got married in it? That's rather pathetic.
God bless us all!!! May the spirit of Christmas help us all to go out during this holiday season and spread love to the less fortunate, the old and the children.
Why don't these people protest in front of all the black churches in Los Angeles- the majority of which voted for prop 8. Answer: Because they probably would have to really talk about the differences between racism and homosexual rights.
Besides, they might actually have to face people who would really fight.
the main proponents of prop 8 were mormons and catholics. yes, quite a few of black churches spoke out in favor of prop 8, but the greatest supporters were mormons and catholics.
The Mormans helped promote and finance it, but are actually a very tiny group in California. 8 out of ten blacks voted against prop 8 as they were voting for Obama. Mormans were a soft target for the mobs. They didn't yell and scream outside the Archdiosis downtown near all the Latinos because those people would come out with baseball bats and make them shut up. Instead, they went up and down gay (and Jewish) neighborhoods and thratened milk toast mormans. Very brave.
If you think that 8 out of 10 Black people voted "No" on prop 8, you are badly misguided! I can assure you that the ratio was around 70-30 in favor of prop 8! Why is that? Because Black people are "Socially Conservative", and in the community, homosexuality is frowned upon!
That is why many Black men are living on the "Down Low", because they are fearful of the fall-out for coming clean.
I remember it was reported widely as 8 out of 10 here in California. No matter if it was 70% instead of 80%- and yes, black people tend to be socially conservative (code words for "religious"). I can see why a homosexual black man would want to hide it from other blacks, just as homosexual catholics, orthodox Jews, Baptists, or Muslims would want to hide from their own groups.
They protested the mormons because they were the group which funded and actually drafted Propostion 8. What Joseph Smith has against Homosexual marriage is beyond me, but as long as I'm not dragged into their bedroom antics, I say let them have what they want. Fair is fair.
Bullshit. They protested the mormons because no one cares. If they protested Catholics, Orthodox Jews or blacks they would either look bad, or have a real fight. All of the traditional forms of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam utterly reject homosexuality and any definition of marriage that would include homosexual marriage. Attacks on mormons are an attempt to stifle expression. Others may try the same thing. They brought it up, but many many more want the same thing.
a lot of money was spent to support prop 8 mainly from mormons and catholics.those who gave the greatest money and support should get the greatest criticism.
You know that this doctrine is oppressive against the gay people and in itself is an attack on the seperation of Church and State, right? Don't be an idiot. Just because you are uncomfortable with your sexuality and freaked out about them having anal sex, doesn't mean you can oppress them. If people like you had their way, we'd be burning witches and placing gays into rehabilitation. God, you people make me sick to my stomache.
Thank you for posting this video. Many of the videos about this musical i have seen are just gay-bashing with poor, not thought out reasons. Im glad to see someone can put up the other side of the argument
People want to convolute the issue with other NON-related issues. Marriage is not a religious institution because aetheist gets married all the time. It isnt a procreation issue because there is no test to ensure fertility before they get married. Choice or not is irrelevant. There are gays and they are not going away. The statement "The very fact that ex-gays exists shows that its a CHOICE." I know ex-straights so does that mean that being straight is a choice too. WHO CARES
Also 33 percent of gay teenagers attempt suicide. Why on earth would someone choose a "lifestyle" were they are treated like garbage, by people like you ?
Gay people are gay the same reason a stripper is a stripper - usually from past abuse or a void in the parental figure. Events that happen to someone can influence - especially sexually. It's a known fact that many in porn and stripping had some type of drama in their past that influenced their choice. The same can be said for gays, it's not so much of a choice as it is a learned behavior that influenced them in that direction. The very fact that ex-gays exists shows that its a CHOICE.
First off they are no ex-gays, just as there are no ex-alcoholics. An alcoholic will always call themselv an alcoholic, they will always craze booze. An ex-gay still has those feelings, they just choose not to act on them. It's actually been prooven soo...Also My cousin lived in my house, my mother and father raised him, as a christian. Same life that I had, he is gay, and always has been. Also Polygamy is sexist towards women, it is not fair because men can have as many women as possible, but..
Also your explanation does not make sense with the fact, that gay mens brains, are different from straight men's brains, and the same as womens. Did the brain adapt to the man's sexuel Behavior ? Explain it to me please ?
gay people are gay because they are gay llouldeng. just like you're a stupid straight person, simply because you are a stupid straight person. they simply are.
...women cannot have as many men as possible. Incest, I could care less about, as long as they are both willing adults. Incest marriage does not affect me in any way...So I could care less what they do....
Funny, almost every gay person I know is against polygamy and incest too. Something about the concept of non-plural "consenting adult" and "of no relation" seems to be lost on you.
THese people are mad becuase THEY LOST. I am not against it, but seriously Prop 8 is about how you define Marriage not equal rights. Stop bitching and take action. Please, I have better things to do than listen to you people bitching.
Flannel - To me, it's more about the fact that it's taking rights AWAY from people that the CA Supreme Court already GAVE to people when they began allowing gay marriage in may. People LOST rights through this bill passing, because it VOIDED everything that had been done. Honestly, it doesn't bother me that it will be enacted, because CA still recognizes Civil Unions, but it bothers me that rights were granted, and then stripped from people.
positive - O please. You act like these 'rights' were there for years, it was 6 months ago, and these 'rights' should've never been given by 4 radical judges.
Wow, are you serious. I love how famos people use there celebrity status and voice there political or religious opinions because they feel there is a unjust done but absolutely have no clue on the subject. Hats off to you Jack and John for not having a clue on God's laws and may God have mercey on you Jack for impersonating Christ and changing the law of the Bible to what you see fit to please man, not God.
God also says that he is no repector of man but we seem to be more worried about pleasing our fellow man than God. When God says he is the Alpha and Omega or when he told Moses to tell his people his name "I Am", that means for ever and never changed. God did not create homosexuality but he gave us free will and by our nature and temptation we face every day we choose to follow our heart which God also say is wicked. The Bible also says he came to save his elect not the whole world!
GREAT :))) Love John and Jack's pretty cool too.

I love to see actors/entertainers getting involved in current world topics. It makes them seem more human and we can relate.
Keep this comming!

when looking at religions Catholicism believes that gays are born that way which puts it firmly in the moderate category of religions. it says gay sex, like straight sex (almost every every time), is just self indulgence. so i think that putting Catholicism as the chief villain (evil catholic schoolgirls in film) against homosexuals in this country is wrong, when we live in an evangelical protestant country where people believe it is a "choice" and that "the gays" need to be (and can be) cured.

LifeUntilLove 1 year ago
What you don't seem to understand, kind sir, is that being gay isn't a choice.
Who in their right mind would choose a lifestyle that would cause danger to them, cause their families to possibly disown them, and make their life harder?
You are saying that people are not born gay? Are you saying that all people are born straight? How do you prove this? Do you have proof that all people are born straight? We both know you don't.
You live in a world all your own.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: Millions and millions, years and years have been spent looking for the gay gene. It's what is so that counts.

tonestar,
Brianh406 is right.
Again, live your life the way you want and let the rest of us do the same.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Again, being gay isn't a choice. It's something you are born with whether you want to admit it or not. Some choose not to act on their attraction to those of the same gender, but that doesn't mean they aren't still gay. That just means they are living in denial and spending a lot of time being someone they are not.
Good luck in life, tonestar. You certainly have a lot of growing up to do. Done with you now.

You are the arrogant one, tonestar.

You do.

Nevermind, I don't care.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: "...you think people have made assumptions about you." Are you speaking for people who may have made assumptions about me?

My life is blessed.
tonestar100 2 years ago
You have a son, huh?
What would your reaction be if he ever told you he was gay? What would you do? Turn your back on him because that is what you think God would want you to do?
Very interested in this reply, although I sincerely doubt you are all the things you say you are. You like attention way too much, and you seem to spend a hell of a lot of time online for someone with so much going on in his life. We all know people never EVER lie on the internet.
Just an observation.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Oh, and I'm done with you.

You disgust. You really do.
tonestar100 2 years ago
Oh, yeah... I'm a real phony.
I eat babies for breakfast, toss stray cats in garbage dumpsters and walk up to random kids to tell them Santa Claus isn't real.
Feel better about yourself now?
Can you sleep better at night? Hope so. I would hate to see you have to actually deal with the repercussions of your thoughts and actions.
Always have to have the last word, too... don't you? You think that as long as you are the last one to leave a message you "win"?
Classic.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: Unlike you I don't need to exaggerate to avoid the truth. Your phonier still.
tonestar100 2 years ago
Yes, I am so phony. I suck. Bad. I am a horrible excuse for a human being. Why am I even alive? I should just hop in my car and drive off a cliff somewhere.
Would that make you feel better about yourself, too?
You seem to really enjoy pointing out faults in people. As a matter of fact, it seems to be your biggest hobby. As long as you are enjoying yourself. It would really start to make me feel bad after a while, but you seem to get off on it.
Ever been to a shrink?
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: While being phony is bad and does suck, you're certainly not a poor excuse for a human being. A little melodramatic? Yes. Horrible human being, no. I don't derive joy from pointing out you have a frustrating problem of falsely portraying yourself. Is you question, have I had psychological counseling. Yes I have. Psychiatric? No.
tonestar100 2 years ago
Oh tonestar, how I look forward to getting insights from your interesting and quite peculiar mind.
What would I do without you? I am ever so relieved that you don't think I am horrible. I was ready to pack up my laptop and jump of a local bridge, but luckily I read your reply in time.
Wanna get married? Oh wait, I refuse to do that until everyone has the same rights as I do. It's called equal rights for a reason. Oh, and the fact that I can't stand you is another reason.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
You amaze me. Your ability to repeat the same pattern of phony melodrama in each response is uncanny. Like a nervous facial tick. You turn on the exaggeration to shield yourself from being real. When you surround yourself with caliber people like the bi-polar, clinically depressed, brianh406 you insulate yourself from people who will note your character deficits. Me, I can tell when I'm in the company of damaged goods. That's why you can't stand me.
tonestar100 2 years ago
Yes, it is my goal in life to amaze you. To take your breath away. To soothe you with my personality quirks and entertain you with my responses.
After all, you clearly know everything and are always right.
Where would the world be without you? Who would we turn to for prime examples of hate and bigotry? It's you, tonestar, that makes me want to get out of bed in the morning just to see what new form of judgment you have for me or any other person who happens to have disagree with you.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Oh, it's true that I told you I didn't want to speak with you any longer... but alas, I have told many friends about your ignorant posts on this video and they are just as entertained by it as I used to be.
For them, my friends, people who I love dearly even though we disagree on politics, religion, and countless other things, I boldly stand back on my stage and show the world what an ass you can be. Ah, the fascination will die off soon, I'm sure. I couldn't take you for long. Doubt they can.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Winterfootsteps: "My life, my friends" - Vol. I. Very touching. Thanks for sharing. More exaggeration and deflecting. How odd; I don't mention your posts to my friends or loved ones. I'm sorry you need your friends to validate you in this time of feeling so attacked. It's your subconscious mind telling you there's truth to what I say and you need reassurance. Sad.
Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the ground in the morning, Satan shudders and says, "oh shit, he's awake!"
tonestar100 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: Oh, thanks for portraying yourself as so cosmopolitan, and urbane; you can actually have friends that love you despite disagreeing on so many things. Wow, your so chill. I never met anybody like you! So hip and progressive. And tolerant too. Everybody wants to be like you. Look at her, there she goes, it's winterfootsteps!
tonestar100 2 years ago
You are ever so welcome, tonestar.
That way I can stay away from it.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: No, I think you've shown yourself to be so "real" and open to differernt perspectives, and have shown yourself to be entirely loveable despite your "differences" with all your lovely friends. Why, who can top that? You greatly overstate who and what I'm about, but then you know that. How can you be more like me? First, don't pretend to be wittier or smarter than you are. And seek help for your problems.
tonestar100 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: What compels me to be how I am? I would say a desire for truth, a need to be creative, a need to seek knowledge and understanding of this life and a relationship with Jesus. Coincidentally, these are all things you already stay away from.
As for you: to lean on your own understanding to get through this life, how scary is that? If this is all there is, ???????????????????????

I am waiting for the other Prop 8 musical to come out, the one with angry gay activists storming restaurants and Mormon temples, hectoring elderly straight people over their signs, and hounding donors large and small until they pay off their tormentors in the name of tolerance and equality.
tonestar100 2 years ago
haha great comment tonestar100.
imsljr420 2 years ago
tonestar100, a couple things...
First, not all activists in the groups you are describing were gay. I am a straight woman, and I marched n Salt Lake City in October of that year.
Secondly, I agree that storming restaurants and so-on is wrong and defeats the purpose getting people to respect your thoughts and rights.
Just wanted to make it clear that not all people who were outraged by the dumb idea that anyone should be able to vote about basic human rights did the things you speak of.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: What you call a "dumb idea" is a protected privilege under the California Constitution.
This "strap-on" mentality serves neither gender.
tonestar100 2 years ago
winterfootsteps: So it appears you've broken the bindings of Mormonism.
I could shred the Prop 8. video like your Mormon video.
tonestar100 2 years ago
Oh, yes. The people protesting against prop H8 were the only ones being "militant". Those affiliated with churches did NOTHING wrong, did they?
Yes, they did.
You have a selective memory. It will serve you well, I am sure. Good luck.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Oh, yes. How about selective answering. I had two more huge issues I commented on in response to your post.
You have selective response syndrome. Remember the "dumb idea" and your gender equality video? They sandwiched your gay activist issue.
Ooops! Both issues were more important than the issue you cherry-picked for response.
tonestar100 2 years ago
Haha, dude... seriously...
One day you might get that.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Remember the time when people all over the country didn't want people with dark skin to have equal rights?
How is this any different? It's not!
The actions by a small amount of protesters doesn't change the fact that being bigoted is wrong.
For the record, 99% of the people I protested with were incredibly saddened by the actions of those who caused all that trouble.
And, if I remember correctly, there were protesters on the other side who did similar things.
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
How would you feel if the religious groups decided that you shouldn't be with the person you love because it doesn't agree with their religious values?
Should people be able to vote on whether or not you get to get married and have kids? Do you have the ability to place yourself in the position of the other side? Do you have any empathy about what people were saying about who they were?
Everyone has the right to be happy, and this is the United Sates. Where is the freedom? Hmmm?
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
Years from now other generations will look back at the Proposition 8 battle and say, "I can't believe a group of people were not getting the same rights as others!"
Just like how we look back on the civil rights era and cringe at the thought of blacks having to sit in the back of a bus or drink from another water fountain.
Gay marriage doesn't hurt you or anyone else out there. Live your own life and stop telling other people how to live theirs! Damn, I wrote an entire novel
wintersfootsteps 2 years ago
The civil rights comparison is trite and frankly insulting to most African Americans. Have you ever met a former black person? No. Former gays? Yes. Gay marriage offends my religious beliefs, deeply, it's offensive emotionally, spiritually and represents a breakdown of the moral fabric of this country. It cheapens and degrades the institution of marriage thousands of years old.
tonestar100 2 years ago
It's different. Being black is an inalienable attribute. Choosing to engage in gay behavior isn't. It's not the same.
tonestar100 2 years ago
I assure you from the bottom of my fun-loving heart, I'm neither worked up or angry in the slightest. Because I believe I understand this issue more fully than you, I have great solace and comfort in my position. So if highlighting my "apparent" anger helps your argument, enjoy. Because I went to law school and earned my law degree in California I know how the initiative process can work to amend the constitution there. It's a guaranteed right. So, I wasn't blown away.

when you look at the Bible you can see many rules that were created.
Aeternam9583 3 years ago
(continued)
4) Homosexuality - Birth rates were high but so was infant and child death. For a person to be homosexual there was a chance to the community shrinking and dieing out.
Today, we do not have the same issues that were in the past. We have health care systems and technologies that were not around then. Women have better ways of taking care of their feminine needs. The world is over populated.
If you want to get philisophical think about this:
God has his hand in all we do.
Aeternam9583 3 years ago
(continued)
As our world over populates and we destroy the planet there is actual sense in the idea that homosexuality is God's way of protecting His people. Now, homosexuality is necessary as a population control as well as a way to care for the millions of children that straight couples will not take care of all over the world.
Homosexuality is a product of evolution. Take the example of frogs in Africa that are able to change genders to keepthe species. Is it not possible for humans too?

I have no doubt that we will persevere and ultimately be allowed to marry whomever we love. It is important to keep raising our voices and our signs and to keep talking to people.
prayingforequality 3 years ago
Where do you draw the line on marrying whomever one loves? Obviously one cannot be allowed to marry WHOMEVER he/she loves. A 25 year old cannot marry a 10 year old and a woman cannot have 12 legal husbands, no matter how much she claims to love all of them. Where do you draw the line? Dont say it doesnt matter because obviously you do think it matters where the lines are drawn when those lines do not include same sex relationships. Thanks for your time. I would love to hear your opinion.
garrettbrent3 3 years ago
Thats the thing, where do we draw the line? I would never want to see anyone hurt/harmed for being Gay or different in any way, but this is not about hurting anyone, it's about following the letter of the law.
writerreader7777 3 years ago
Interesting that you would put words in my mouth and assume I would say it doesn't matter. Interesting, too, that you assume that allowing two people of the same sex who love one another to marry means I would now have to support marriage of any kind. Thanks for pointing out that I chose my words poorly. I should have said "person they love." This is America. It was founded on the idea that all men are created equal and entitled to "Life. Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
prayingforequality 3 years ago
(-1-)Hello there. I would like to give a point. Let's say: It's all based on RESPECT, and responsibility. Take a look at the examples you gave. It is not sure the 10-year-old did think clearly about the marriage thing.(to be clear, you may wanna ask the 10-year-old whether he/she's regret or not. Some culture did allow men to do so. and women from those cultures had some to say:( )
gesaill 3 years ago
(-2-)Besides, if they have children Can this 10-year-old takes care of his/her daughter or son? I will give it a question mark because of his/her maturation(of mind, attitudes toward life, etc) As monogamy, I believe there are many discussion in colleges, institutions, and you and your friends;) Here we can do little practice: imagine your girlfriend/boyfriend have other lover(s) behind you. How do you feel?
gesaill 3 years ago
In a third-person-perspective, I may be sorry or be OK(if you feel it's OK) according to your feeling. after all, he's/she's YOUR lover, not mine. So to the Lesbian/Gay merriage. We are now have thousands of millions of lesbians and gays stand out there. It's time for we to accept them, don't we?
gesaill 3 years ago
(-4-)As for the character of law and society, should be under this "respect and responsibility" proposition. But now prop.8(and those who fight against to)homosexual people, do they follow the "respect" concept? I think they are even DENIED their existence!
gesaill 3 years ago
these are for the "drew a line" discussion
gesaill 3 years ago
Those who believe being gay is a choice surely must be closeted gays, or at least bisexual. I can't imagine ever choosing to be gay because I have absolutely no attraction to other men. Frankly, I can't imagine why all women aren't lesbians because women are clearly the more attractive of the sexes.
johnPhilos 3 years ago

A lot of money was spent against prop 8 mainly from the "gay" rich Jews that own Hollywood and mainstream media.
Who gave the greatest money and support to go against prop 8 should get the greatest criticism.
blacknproud4ever 3 years ago
"Who gave the greatest money and support to go against prop 8 should get the greatest criticism. "
more money was spent from out of state by those that were opposed to Prop 8. And more money was spent overall by those opposed to Prop 8.
They had their chance, a very good chance to get this right, but the people don't want it. Even if they do a million plays and musicals, it won't change the will of the people, and they can't change our churches to redefine marriage.

you think that's what this is all about? That's naive!
I don't care what other christians think, they have made a choice to believe a certain intepretation of the bible, fine. And as for politics and trying to win favor? This had nothing to do with that! Just trying to do the right thing, that's all.

Ya know what's funny? It was the Black and Latino vote that passed this for the most part. Most of these sore losers are putting the blame on what they think is the "typical white Christian". Even your new President supports marriage between a man and a woman.
penterhouse 3 years ago

5th Grade. Get with it America.

MrsMcGregor21 3 years ago
True that! I'm offended that people won't let gays that have been together for 50+ years are overlooked in favor of couples that are drunk at the drive-through window in Vegas.
acidxrainbows 3 years ago
"we shouldn't be able to tell committed, loving gay couples that they can't get married."
marriage is a definition.
you wanna say the sky is green, ok, you can say that, but don't tell me to say that. its nonsense to me.
and besides, changing the definition of marriage means changing the definition of sin for those that have sex and can't get married. YES, we all believe that homosexual sex is sin and always will be. Changing marriage changes that, and it can't be changed! Get it?
mormonanswerman 3 years ago
Please don't speak to me like I'm an idiot just because I don't believe in a book that was written 2000 years ago by MEN, not GOD. I believe that God would rather have a happy same sex couple be married than an abusive straight couple that end up resenting each other.
MrsMcGregor21 3 years ago
"Please don't speak to me like I'm an idiot just because I don't believe in a book that was written 2000 years ago by MEN, not GOD."
I didn't. But while were at it, please don't always compare marriage to something cheap, like a drive thru window. Some people may have cheapened it, and as long as you too think of it in those terms, it is no wonder that you wouldn't hesitate to change the definition of it.
I hold it more sacred than being politically expedient.

Okay, let's do it like this "answerman,"
You numerically list the reasons that gay marriage is Constitutionally illegal - and I will respond to them.
F33bs 3 years ago
"you wanna say the sky is green, ok, you can say that, but don't tell me to say that. its nonsense to me"
You are completely oblivious to the massive irony that comes with saying that.
You assume that your interpretation of marriage is the right one, rather than the one your cult adheres to.
If I was to say, grown men and women cannot wear diapers -- as the Mormons do -- I would be out of line, correct?

It's so funny to hear John C Riley talk about serious issues. His voice is hilarious. I love him!
MrsMcGregor21 3 years ago
They said that God was on their side, that God hated black people. Now that is looked at like an abomination. Slavery, racial prejudice is no longer socially acceptable. The history of the world moves in cycles, ups and downs in what culture seems to be apporpiate but slowly and permantly society continues to become more accepting.
hatedeuna 3 years ago
Homosexuality may be a choice but its their choice. I choose to believe in my God, and my neighbors choose to believe in Buddhism. I doubt God will condem them when they have sacrificed so much every year to help others. A Christian chooses to be a Christian, and a Muslim chooses to be a Muslim. In the last two decades we have seen a change in our society. Caucasian christians told Black christians that they weren't equal because of their skin tone.
hatedeuna 3 years ago
I'm no philosopher, and I'm definately not a genius but I find it hard to believe God promotes hate, I may be wrong. Maybe God is a being who commands our world with a subjective and biased point of view, something associated with mortal men who are prone to corruption and sin. But isn't God above such hinderences, he is the father of all men, and as such does not think the way we do. There is not a single person alive who has the right to tell me or anyone else what God wants.

"So what if I told you that there are ppl who believe that they were born a polygamist or born with attraction to their family members?"
I would tell you that you are using the SAME ARGUMENTS that the gays and lesbians are using to promote so-called gay marriage.
mormonanswerman 3 years ago
Well there's no such things as the stigmatic word "homophobic" (its usually just called "normal") so whats yer point. Dude if some1 truly felt in their heart that they were gay, having sex with the opposite sex because of societal pressure would go against who they are & what they stand for. Why not just stay a virgin, than have sex with a gender they consider 'disgusting?' It shows sexual confusion to compromise sexual orientation to please exterior pressures. Or maybe all gays are bisexual?
llouldeng 3 years ago
"Homophobic" is Latin for "Fear of Man." However, in Popular ussage, it has become to mean "Homosexualaphobia." Quiet a mouthful, is it not? Understand that you must think before you speak, or in this case type. You make statements with baseless and frankily idiotic "facts."
m0nk3yp13 3 years ago
It's no secret many porn stars & strippers had rough sexual pasts that influenced their behavioral patterns and CHOICES. same with gays.
llouldeng 3 years ago
Haha, I love this. It's corny but great.
AilesNoires 3 years ago
Why is it always an issue of what it says in the Bible?
I mean, several million non-Christians get married. What do you propose to do about that?
So two Christian gays can't get married under God, but two non-Christian straight people can because at least the Bible says that a man and a woman got married in it? That's rather pathetic.

Why don't these people protest in front of all the black churches in Los Angeles- the majority of which voted for prop 8. Answer: Because they probably would have to really talk about the differences between racism and homosexual rights.
Besides, they might actually have to face people who would really fight.
Nachum 3 years ago
the main proponents of prop 8 were mormons and catholics. yes, quite a few of black churches spoke out in favor of prop 8, but the greatest supporters were mormons and catholics.
obamawill2008 3 years ago
The Mormans helped promote and finance it, but are actually a very tiny group in California. 8 out of ten blacks voted against prop 8 as they were voting for Obama. Mormans were a soft target for the mobs. They didn't yell and scream outside the Archdiosis downtown near all the Latinos because those people would come out with baseball bats and make them shut up. Instead, they went up and down gay (and Jewish) neighborhoods and thratened milk toast mormans. Very brave.
Nachum 3 years ago
If you think that 8 out of 10 Black people voted "No" on prop 8, you are badly misguided! I can assure you that the ratio was around 70-30 in favor of prop 8! Why is that? Because Black people are "Socially Conservative", and in the community, homosexuality is frowned upon!
That is why many Black men are living on the "Down Low", because they are fearful of the fall-out for coming clean.
SouthernGent55 3 years ago
I remember it was reported widely as 8 out of 10 here in California. No matter if it was 70% instead of 80%- and yes, black people tend to be socially conservative (code words for "religious"). I can see why a homosexual black man would want to hide it from other blacks, just as homosexual catholics, orthodox Jews, Baptists, or Muslims would want to hide from their own groups.
Nachum 3 years ago
They protested the mormons because they were the group which funded and actually drafted Propostion 8. What Joseph Smith has against Homosexual marriage is beyond me, but as long as I'm not dragged into their bedroom antics, I say let them have what they want. Fair is fair.
m0nk3yp13 3 years ago
Nachum 3 years ago
a lot of money was spent to support prop 8 mainly from mormons and catholics.those who gave the greatest money and support should get the greatest criticism.

Why on earth would someone choose a "lifestyle" were they are treated like garbage, by people like you ?
dylanhoka 3 years ago
Gay people are gay the same reason a stripper is a stripper - usually from past abuse or a void in the parental figure. Events that happen to someone can influence - especially sexually. It's a known fact that many in porn and stripping had some type of drama in their past that influenced their choice. The same can be said for gays, it's not so much of a choice as it is a learned behavior that influenced them in that direction. The very fact that ex-gays exists shows that its a CHOICE.
llouldeng 3 years ago
First off they are no ex-gays, just as there are no ex-alcoholics. An alcoholic will always call themselv an alcoholic, they will always craze booze. An ex-gay still has those feelings, they just choose not to act on them. It's actually been prooven soo...Also My cousin lived in my house, my mother and father raised him, as a christian. Same life that I had, he is gay, and always has been. Also Polygamy is sexist towards women, it is not fair because men can have as many women as possible, but..
dylanhoka 3 years ago
Also your explanation does not make sense with the fact, that gay mens brains, are different from straight men's brains, and the same as womens. Did the brain adapt to the man's sexuel Behavior ? Explain it to me please ?

Flannel - To me, it's more about the fact that it's taking rights AWAY from people that the CA Supreme Court already GAVE to people when they began allowing gay marriage in may. People LOST rights through this bill passing, because it VOIDED everything that had been done. Honestly, it doesn't bother me that it will be enacted, because CA still recognizes Civil Unions, but it bothers me that rights were granted, and then stripped from people.
