I said this elsewhere, but I'll repeat it here since so many of you want to know more about this music track, "Funeral March". It's originally from Patrick Cassidy's album "Famine Remembrance", released in 1997. (It's long since been out of print.) The music on this album was composed in remembrance of the Great Famine of Ireland. If you think this particular track sounds haunting and apocalyptic, you should hear the tracks "Lament" and "Saint Patrick's Breastplate II", also from the album.
its a journey in life, and this movie is portraying part of your life, how can you'all dislike this? It's a fact, a concrete proof. You all just dont have heart, don't ya, cold-blooded human?
This movie deserves a good grade it was good in depth film, with lots of parts you cannot fully understand by watching the movie once and it leaves alot of room for you to think. But its a hard movie to watch, but worth it
good film. it's a reflection on human life. some people walked out though and I heard some people talking shit after it was over because they didn't understand. It's really a love it or hate it type of movie.
I saw the movie today. The couple next to me kept groaning like they hated every second. After the movie I started clapping, and the couple looked at me and said, "How can you like that movie? It was terrible."
@shutupsamandseth This movie is more than a masterpiece, this couple just dont get it, a lot of people dont get it, but the more important is that there's a lot a people who think that this movie is th best movie that we havent seen since a long time, so do I and you too, and THAT is amazing.
Just saw this movie today...I think it was, visually, one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, but the story was choppy. Having said that I think Malick captured the feeling of childhood phenomenally, and the acting was really great.
That was pretty much what I thought too. I wanted to like it more, but a lot of times I was just waiting for something to happen. altho the visuals and the score were pretty perfect.
I just bought the soundtrack at iTunes and I'm very dissapointed that this track and the opera aria during the creation scenes aren't on the album. Can anyone provide me with links/info to the remaining tracks?
@stoffermand This theme, for example, has been composed by Patrick Cassidy, and belongs to the album called "Famine Remembrance". It also appears the composition "Ma Vlast" by Smetana, and as far as I know, also contains the "Lacrimosa", belonging to the "Requiem for my Friend" by Zbigniew Preisner.
Absolutely beautiful journey through the memories of a man filled with regret and grief looking for answers to the universe's toughest questions and reconciliation. Seeing the evolution of the child as he looks for a balance between grace and nature is an emotional and spiritual challenge. Malick is a poet, and 'The Tree of Life' is truly poetry in motion.
This is less a movie and more of an experience. With that said, I would say it is in my top 10 favorites of all time. The imagery is simply stunning. The acting is simply superb. The score is simply seducing. I do believe that one should know what to expect before seeing this. I know those who did not hated it. Those who seemed to have an idea of what this was about (including me) enjoyed it to its fullest.
@Drugernautt great "summing up" of the movie.. I agree, both of my parents had different "approaches "to life, and I'm a product of BOTH ;). My dad was a people pleaser, and my mom was a cynic. LOL.
I'm goin keep say your till YOUR faggot Christian ass has a heart attack. Jesus fuck I didn't even tag YOU'RE name and your patrolin this page like a jehova wittness. Get UR self a new job haha
Also, this is a version of the funeral march from the movie "Michael Collins". Another great movie with a wonderful soundtrack. Don't miss it if you haven't seen it.
Yes, this will be a masterpiece. When I first saw the previews in the movies, I knew this was something no one can miss. As a older "baby boomer" I realize now all of the hopes and dreams that I had for my life are really nothing. We are so small and of no real consequence in the universe. If there is a God, then he is the only being that truly cares for our existence. Thank you.
...in general. I'm a huge fan of Terrence Malick and I cannot forsee this movie to be anything short of spectacular. I hope people will not only open their minds but also their hearts to this film, as i know i will.
A few months ago i was at a funeral for my cousin, and the Reverend said something that will always stay with me. He said "God doesn't want us to have a relationship with religion, he wants us to have a relationship with him." - It blew me away. It put a lot of things in perspective. Before then i had laid down Catholicism and rejected any other religion because I think spirituality speaks universally to a lot of people. I think this film is gonna be beautiful & will speak volumes about life....
a good movie to me is all about music and cinematography. otherwise i'd just read a book. it seems to me that tree of life has both amazing music and amazing cinematography. i'm excited!
I hope this isn't some diss on some random religion. Or some diss on people who are naturists. I hope its just. I dont know. I hope its as good as it looks.
@SqueesitPlease Now, I'm not a religious person, but to say that all religious people are idiots is really, really ignorant. There have been incredibly brilliant people who've believed in God, just as there have been incredibly brilliant people who haven't.
@SqueesitPlease I'm not religious, but you're a fucking asshole! What the hell does "religion should be wiped from human kinds vocabulary" even mean? Oh look at you, cleverly using a polysyllabic word such as 'vocabulary' even though its in totally the wrong context, you really are the smart one aren't you? Should also be "you're an idiot" not "your". If you weren't being such an obnoxious cunt I wouldn't be so pedantic, but I fucking hate thick people who think they have something to say.
@Plissken07 No......just accepting that no humanoid God like being created this world. It's something altogether different something we could never ever understand. And to accept that. And each other.
@phishboy93 Just like the thin red line... his movies aren't trying to be realistic and gritty per-say, but they are letting the viewer transcend with the characters while they go through their experiences of truth in relationship to themselves. His movies are very existentialistic. I can't wait to see it.
Thank you for that comment. That's how i feel too.I think this might be my favorite film. And I'm a huge film buff. I saw it July 2nd, Saturday night. I can't get it out of my head and I can't wait to see it again. Truly beautiful!
You should not compare this film to The Fountain, which is just the story of a man in a soap bubble and have nothing to do with mind. Go back to Tarkovski to not forget what is a mind's experience, and you could appreciate even more The Tree of Life, which is the piece of a poet, like T. was I think. Just to avoid to mix tricky trash and beauty !
a beautiful movie and beautiful music.
